MEMBERS PRIVILEGESMembers are entitled to use the Members Dining Room (Show Pavilion) on Show Day. Coffeeis served between 11.00 am - 12.00 noon and Lunch from 12.00 noon.

Members are entitled to use the Members Ringside Enclosure with bar facilities from 11.00 am- 10.00pm. A Hog Roast is available for purchase after 6.00 pm on the evening of the Show.

Members paying £15.00 or more will only be charged members’ rate of entry fees when enteringexhibits.

Members are entitled to free admission to the Grandstand, if room is available.

Limited parking for the disabled is allocated near to the main ring. Please note a disabled carpass is required from the Show Office.

A Livestock Schedule will be sent to all Members.

Members have the right to vote at the Annual General Meeting.

Badges and tickets are sent out in June to Members who pay in advance.

OSWESTRY SHOWGROUND is available during the year for Livestock Events, WorkingDemonstrations, Exhibitions, etc., and the SHOW PAVILION is available for Meetings,Wedding Receptions, Dancing, Parties, etc.

Rules and regulations relating to Livestock Sections

Challenge Cups & Trophies1. All trophies and Special Prizes shall be competed for only by Exhibitors who are

members of the Oswestry and District Agricultural Society.2. Members who have subscribed £15.00 or upwards shall be entitled to make entries at the

reduced fee as shown.3. Each challenge Cup or Trophy to be held for one year, and to be returned when requested

and in the event of loss the amount of its value to be made good by the holder to the Society. 4. Cups will be available for collection from the Secretary’s Office on Show Day after the

Grand Parade (approx 3.45) until 5.30 pm. Exhibitors unable to collect cups on Show Dayare able to pick up their trophies from Oswestry Show Office by arrangement before theend of September.

Conditions under which entries are accepted5. All the exhibits must have been bona-fide the property of the Exhibitor for two calendar

months previous to date of entry.6. There must be a minimum of three exhibitors in each class otherwise the class will be

cancelled.7. All exhibits must be described in the catalogue. Substitutions are only allowed in the

Cattle Section.8. The Committee reserve the right to themselves the power to sanction a judge to withhold

any of the prizes offered if in his opinion the exhibits do not possess sufficient merit.9. A 2nd prize will only be awarded if there are 3 or more entries. A 3rd prize will only be

awarded if there are 4 or more entries.10. All horses and ponies must work in the area provided.11. Exhibitors in classes for Horses, Cattle Sheep and Goats must be on the Showground not

later than 9.00 am on Show Day, and must not be removed from stock lines, pens or stagesuntil AFTER the Grand Parade of Livestock, not earlier than 4.00 - 4.30 pm. Please note,Horse rings 2,3,4,and main ring start at 8.30am

12. All stock should be ready for judging 30 minutes before the class.13. Each exhibit must be in the charge of an attendant, who is required to conform to Rules

and Regulations of the Committee and be subject to the orders of Show Stewards. Thisrule will be strictly enforced, and there will be a fine of £5 if an attendant is absent fromthe animals.

14. The Society’s Veterinary Surgeons may on their own authority give to any animal suchemergency treatment, as they may consider appropriate in the event that the owner or hisrepresentative cannot be immediately found. Exhibitors to be required to meet full costof this treatment and any other costs involved in connection with any veterinary treatmentgiven on the Showground.

15. Any person who wishes to lodge an objection against any Exhibitor must do so in writingand hand it in to the Secretaries Office on the Showground before 4.00 pm on Show Day,or within half an hour of judging of the Class involved. A deposit of £10 must be paidwhich will be returned if the objection is upheld by three members of the LivestockCommittee, otherwise it is forfeited to the Society.

16. NO SMOKING will be allowed in or around the livestock lines or horseboxes.17. The Showground will be open on the afternoon prior to Show Day.18. Exhibitors should check on the position of equipment provided for fire fighting. In the

event of a fire notify the steward. If it is safe to do so, tackle the fire with extinguishersuntil the Fire Services arrive.

19. Judges & stewards have the delegated power of the Society to enforce the Rules &Regulations relating to livestock entries. THE SOCIETY WILL NOT ACCEPTABUSIVE BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS JUDGES & STEWARDS.

20. The Chief Steward of each livestock section have the discretionary powers to excuse theparading of an animal where it is unruly and likely to upset or cause damage to otheranimals; attendants or the general public.

21. Prize Money for Cattle and Sheep Exhibitors, payment will be made on the day ofthe Show from the Judges Marquee next to the Secretaries Office BEFORE 5pm.Please ensure that your Prize Money is collected on Show Day – any Prize Money notcollected will be deemed a donation to the Oswestry & District Agricultural Society

22. Prize entries in the Horse and Cattle Classes must take part in the Grand Parade. Exhibitsto wear numbers and prize rosettes.

IMPORTANT: ALL CHAMPIONS, RESERVE CHAMPIONS AND/OR 1ST PLACEDPRIZE WINNERS ARE REQUIRED TO JOIN THE GRAND PARADE. FAILURE TOCOMPLY WITH THIS RULE WILL RESULT IN PRIZE MONEY BEING FORFEITED. ALL2ND AND 3RD PLACED PRIZE WINNERS ARE INVITED AND ENCOURAGED TO JOINTHE GRAND PARADE.

23. Exhibitors are requested to fix rosettes on prize-winning animals or their stalls after judging.24. All horses and ponies in height restricted classes must on instruction of the judge or any

official of the Society produce a certificate of height, or be measured by the Society’sVeterinary Surgeon.

25. Exhibitors should ensure they are acquainted with regulations at start of Cattle and Sheepsections.

26. There is to be no movement off the Showground of any livestock vehicles during theGrand Parade.

RESPONSIBILITY27. Exhibitors are alone responsible for the accuracy and eligibility of their entries.28. The Society has taken all reasonable measures to ensure the health and safety of everyone

present. Forthese measures to be effective, everyone must take all reasonable precautionsto avoid and prevent accidents occurring and must obey the instructions of the organisersand all officials and stewards. The Society, its officers and servants or agents shall not beresponsible for any injury, damage or loss however caused to any animal, article or otherproperty belonging to the exhibitor and the exhibitor agrees to indemnify the Society inrespect of any costs in connection with any claims made upon the Society as a result ofthe action or omission of the exhibitor or any employee of the exhibitor.

Each exhibitor shall be solely responsible for any loss, injury or damage that may be done to,or occasioned by or arising from any animal, article or property exhibited or brought on to theShowground by him and he shall indemnify and hold harmless the Society from and against allactions, suits, expenses and claims on account of or in respect of any such damage or injurywhich may be so caused or occasioned

The Society, its officers or servants will not be liable for any errors or mistakes that may happenin placing or penning the stock or articles to be exhibited but the servants in charge of the samemust see that they are placed according to their entries.

the late J. W. Edwards to be held for one year by the Exhibitor gaining the most points inthe Classes for horses, Cattle and Sheep. Conditions: Points will be awarded on thefollowing basis: First Prize 4 points; Second Prize 3 points; Third Prize 2 points; Reserve and 4th Prize 1point. The Trophy will be open for Competition to Exhibitors living within a radius of 40 milesfrom The Cross at Oswestry.

BRUCELLOSIS SCHEME RULESCows or heifers calving at the Show before the time of judging WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TOCOMPETE. Cows or heifers, which appear about to calve will be placed in isolation and aftercalving returned home as soon as practicable. Cows or heifers showing any abnormal dischargeor which appear about to abort or which do abort WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COMPETEand will be placed in isolation at once. SHEEP SECTION

MAEDI VISNA ACCREDITED FLOCK SCHEMEThe onus is on the MV/CAE Accredited Flock owners and exhibitors to take appropriatemeasures to avoid close contact with non-scheme sheep and goats. a. Sheep from Accredited flocks must be accompanied by a green SAC Veterinary certificate

that must be handed to the steward on the entrance to the Sheep Section on theShowground.

b. Separate transport must be used for accredited and non-accredited sheep; and there willbe separate unloading points clearly marked.

c. In open penning there will be 2m space between penning of accredited and non-accreditedsheep.

d. There will be separate watering facilities for accredited and non-accredited sheep.e. Accredited and non-accredited sheep may be allowed in the same ring, but should be led

by a halter or collar and there should be a 2m space between different categories. It isaccepted that judges will need to pass between and handle the sheep, but any examinationsuch as mouthing should be carried out by the handler for the judge’s inspection.

f. If any accredited sheep come into close contact with non-accredited sheep, it must onreturn to itsown or other scheme premises assume the status of contact sheep. Generallythis will require isolation and testing at 6-9 months intervals until status is regained.

SCRAPIE MONITORED SHEEPWhen signing the entry form the owner of the sheep will be declaring and confirming that allfemales of all breeds will be entering and exhibiting ewes that have not lambed within 30 daysprior to entry to the Show, or ewes in lamb or running with the ram.
