REMINDER: Daily Mass is at 9 am every
weekday. That includes the Children’s
Mass and Holy Days.
Dear Parishioners,
One thing that seems to be prevalent in our culture today is
the idea of relativism. It is this thought: “You believe what you
want to, and I’ll believe what I want to. As long as your thought
doesn’t affect me, it’s ok.” This is very dangerous when it comes
to our spiritual lives.
There is truth given to us. Along with the truth, we are given
commands that will ultimately lead us to the truth. The first
reading begins with a command: “Observe what is right, do
what is just.” If we follow the commands of the Lord, we are
drawn to him more. If we are drawn to him more, we are
changed to become more like him.
As St. Paul says: “the call of God is irrevocable.” Something
that is worth reflecting on is this: are we obedient to the
commands of God? Do we follow God’s commands to observe
what is right, to do what is just? Or, do we place our thoughts,
our own views ahead of the truth?
Observing what is right can be difficult, but so was the cross. If
we are called to follow Christ, we are called to go all the way to
the cross. Following the truth is what will bring us to a closer
relationship with God. Following the truth comes with the help
from the grace of God in our lives.
God Bless,
Fr. Davis
A Note From Your Humbled Pastor: “The Perfect Priest”
The results of our computerized survey indicate that the
perfect priest preaches exactly two minutes. He condemns
sins but never upsets anyone. He is 28 years old and has
preached 30 years. He has a burning desire to work with
teenagers and spends all of his time with senior citizens.
The perfect priest smiles all the time with a straight face
because he has a sense of humor that keeps him seriously
dedicated to his work. He makes 50 calls daily on parish
families, shut-ins and the hospitalized, and is always in his
office when desired for a visit.
If your priest does not measure up, simply send this letter
to the six other parishes. Send him to the parish on the top
of the list. In one week, you will receive 1,643 priests and
one of them will be perfect. One parish broke the chain and
got its priest back in less than three weeks!
Lesson: We all learn as we go. Thanks for your patience,
good humor and understanding. We all need it.
