The girls “had an offensive explosion (relatively speaking) in the first quarter, jumping out to an 18-12 advantage” according to Coach Sanderson. He adds, “ Statistically we had a season-low 11 turnovers, and shot 13-21 from the FT line (including 8-11 in the second half).” Freshman Megan Wagaman (pictured right) led the balanced O’s with 9 points, 4 boards, 3 blocked shots and a couple steals as well as assists. On the boys side, Coach Merritt and his squad took a 55-52 win in dramatic fashion. While the O’s trailed most of the game, they outscored the Stars 21-13 in the 4th quarter. Senior Dan Fitzgerald hit a 3 to give the Orioles a 53-52 lead with 38 seconds in the game. Starmont called a time out and drew up a play for a good look at a 3 from the top of the key but it was no good and rebounded by Sophomore Greg Pauly. He made the outlet pass to Fitzgerald who found an all alone, Jake Hulett underneath the Oriole bucket for an easy 2. And with his field goal, the buzzer sounded and the O’s had won. Hulett (pictured left) finished with 19 and Elias Nissen 18 to lead the Orioles. ORIOLES TAKE TWO FROM STARMONT

After suffering losses at North Linn last Friday, both the girls and boys left Starmont with wins on Tuesday, moving the girls to 4-4 and the boys to 4-3 on the young season. The girls “had an offensive explosion (relatively speaking) in the first quarter, jumping out to an 18-12 advantage” according to Coach Sanderson. Senior Dan Fitzgerald hit a 3 to give the Orioles a 53-52 lead with 38 seconds in the game. Hulett (pictured left) finished with 19 and Elias Nissen 18 to lead the Orioles. Thursday and Friday of this week calls for girls and boys home action again—Thursday against Durant and Friday against Monticello.
