For Adult and Sr. High (Sundays 9:30 – 10:25 a.m.)
Beginning January 8th, Ken Kruis will be leading a combined Sunday School class for
four weeks teaching Christians how to defend their faith when they argue creation versus
evolution and equip you with the answers for questions that people ask in today’s culture.
January 8: What does the Bible say about the age of the universe?
January 15: The Ark of Noah, and the pre-flood world.
January 22: The real history of dinosaurs.
January 29: Evolution, did God use it?
This seminar has been presented by Ken at churches around Holland and has been a
blessing to those attending as he shows the biblical foundations of the “science” around
the origin of the world and how God is at the center of it all. Ken believes that God has
given us His Word to count on as the final truth in the scientific world today. Plan to
attend!
Creation Seminar
It’s time again for a favorite Parkside activity:
fun, food & fellowship with our always popular…
“Dessert for eight” Dessert for Eight are rotating groups of four couples meeting together for a time of
dessert & conversation once a month from January through April. Each rotating
host home couple will simply coordinate the day and time of the dessert at their
home. The other couples will bring a dessert to share. At the end of the schedule,
you will have had some yummy desserts with lots of your favorite people and made
some new friends as well! A great way to “get to know” others here at PBC.
A couple = any two people … singles are welcome!

“THE 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS”
Children in England from 1558 to 1829 were not permitted to practice their
faith openly. It is believed that someone during that era wrote the carol
“The Twelve Days of Christmas” to help children remember important
religious events. The song supposedly had two meanings - the surface
meaning plus a hidden Biblical and spiritual meaning which was
locked away in it to symbolize the teachings of the faith.
The “true love” mentioned in the song doesn’t refer to an earthly suitor
but it refers to God Himself.
The “me” who receives the presents refers to every saved person.
The partridge in a pear tree is Jesus Christ, the Son of God.
In the song, Christ is symbolically presented as a mother partridge which
feigns injury to decoy predators from her helpless nestlings, much in
memory of the expression of Christ’s sadness over the fate of Jerusalem:
“Jerusalem! Jerusalem! How often would I have sheltered thee
under my wings, as a hen does her chicks, but thou wouldst not have it so…”
Symbols of the 12 gifts that God has given to us are:
The partridge in a pear tree = Jesus Christ, the Son of God
2 Turtle Doves = The Old and the New Testament
3 French Hens = Faith, Hope and Charity, the Theological Virtues
4 Calling Birds = the Four Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John
5 Golden Rings = The first 5 books of the Old Testament,
the “Pentateuch,” which gives the history of man’s fall from grace
6 Geese A-laying = the six days of creation
7 Swans A-swimming = the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit-
Prophesy, Serving, Teaching, Exhortation, Contribution, Leadership, Mercy
8 Maids A-milking = the eight beatitudes
9 Ladies Dancing = the nine Fruits of the Holy Spirit-
Love, Joy, Peace, Patience, Kindness, Goodness, Faithfulness,
Gentleness and Self-Control
10 Lords A-leaping = the Ten Commandments
11 Pipers Piping = the eleven faithful apostles
12 Drummers Drumming = the twelve points of belief
