Introduction and registration

Load Tap Changer Fundamentals - Niklas Gustavsson ABBAn introduction to On-Load Tap-Changers covering the operating principles, regulating and transformer windings connections, OLTC styles, conventional arcing in oil and vacuum technology including the corresponding operational sequences.

Coffee break

Load Tap Changer Diagnostics DVtest - Goran Milojevic DV PowerThis training session will elaborate on condition diagnosis of electrical contacts of tap changers using DVtest (Dynamic tap changer recording). Principles of the method and positive / negative aspects of various testing procedures. DC testing power transformers requires special approach. Demagnetization and saturation using high current or both windings explained. Synchronization between phases, stabilization, shorting, runaway.

Lunch

Load Tap Changer Diagnostics using DGA - TBAWhile DGA will be discussed to identify the type of OLTC issues, the DVtest method can identify and locate contact wear and defects on OLTC’s which will be demonstrated and explained. Oil vs vacuum tap changer signatures in DGA - key gasses, ratios, and source of gassing.

DVtest Case studies - Raka Levi AMforum working group on DRMThis training session will shed light onto detailed analysis of resistance/reactance tap changer operation, its various contact motion principles, and analysis of DVtest graphs. Tap changer failure modes, and how to detect it before it becomes a disaster will be addressed along with case studies. The AMforum Working group in Europe has been collecting this experience for the last 7 years.

Discoveries on vacuum OLTCs that led to a revision of the standards - Niklas Gustavsson ABBModern tap changers use vacuum interruption technology. This required modification in the testing procedure and development of a synthetic test circuit for correct evaluation of OLTC performance, that was included in the IEC standard 60214.

Health index for OLTCs - Mohd Azhar Abdul Aziz TNB MalaysiaA special quantitative approach to evaluating condition of OLTC has been applied in this utility to prioritize maintenance actions.

Practical issues with transformer DVtesting - Raka LeviDC testing transformer windings

Various modes of OLTC testing, mechanical and electrical condition evaluation - Goran Milojevic DV PowerResult analysis, Summary of findings

Lunch

Upgrades and retrofit incl. maintenance discussions on vacuum OLTCs - Niklas Gustavsson ABBOlder types of tap changers now require upgrades or overhaul, prioritizing this task can be accomplished using test procedure accompanied with powerful data analysis.

Page 3: 12-13 June, Stockholm, Sweden Scandic Foresta hotel, · PDF fileGoran Milojevic is an application engineer at IBEKO Power AB, Sweden, working as a technical support engineer for North

He has 30 years of asset performance and condition assessment experience, specializing in apparatus testing, monitoring and diagnostics. During his career, Dr. Levi has provided consulting service to utility clients in Europe and USA in the field of diagnostic testing, and investigations as a part of comprehensive substation condition assessment programs. Seven years ago he started within the AMforum organization a working group on DRM test methodology for tap changers. For 20 years he has been running committees that assemble asset managers and operations specialists of major European utilities, organizing AMforum conferences in Europe, TC Universities in USA, and TC Colleges in Asia. He has written over 25 technical papers on the subject of electrical testing, transformers, OLTCs, and breaker diagnostics and condition monitoring. His education includes Ph.D. in the field of HV diagnostics for circuit breakers and Diploma of electrical engineering, both at the U. of Belgrade, and ME in electric power from the RPI, New York.

Raka Levi, Dr.Eng., Application expert, DV-Power Sweden and convener of the AMforum association

Goran MilojevicAplication Engineer at IBEKO Power AB

Goran Milojevic is an application engineer at IBEKO Power AB, Sweden, working as a technical support engineer for North America, Philippines and South Africa. After receiving his MSc, he has worked as a product manager for the high-current transformer testing instruments, including the TWA40D, the most advanced three-phase winding ohmmeter in the market. He is a member of AM Forum On-Load Tap Changer Dynamic Resistance Measurement working group. He has lead a DRM research project in cooperation with ESBI, Ireland.
