Holy Father’s Prayer Intention
For June 2015
Universal Intention: That immigrants and refugees may find welcome and
respect in the countries to which they come.
Intention for Evangelization: That the personal encounter with Jesus may
arouse in many young people the desire to offer their own lives in priesthood
or consecrated life.
11th Sunday in Ordinary Time
June 13 & 14, 20115
Ezekiel 17:22-24 I have lifted high the lowly tree.
Psalm 92 “Lord, it is good to give thanks to you.”
2 Corinthians 5:6-10 Whether we are at home or away, we aspire to
please the Lord.
Mark 4:26-34 It is the smallest of all seeds, and becomes the
largest of plants.
In Saint Mark’s Gospel today, Jesus speaks in parables so that the people can understand what
He is saying. Using everyday examples with which his listeners would have been familiar, he
creates images in their minds of what the reign of God is like. As we listen today to his words,
let us too be drawn into the story and eagerly learn what Jesus has to tell us.
12th Sunday in Ordinary Time
June 20 & 21, 2015
Job 38:1, 8-11
Psalm 107
2 Corinthians 5:14-17
Mark 4:35-41

Remember us in your Will!!!
Our Lady of Good Counsel is extremely grateful to those
individuals who have made, or have expressed an intention
to make a gift to our future ministries in their WILL. Such
a gift is among the most far reaching and valuable
contributions a parishioner can make, directly benefitting
the future mission and ministries of our parish and school.
If you are considering leaving your gift as a will or bequest
to the parish and would like additional information, please
contact our office at (808) 455-3012.

Many Catholic Christians today hurt over the diminished number of
people attending Mass. This seems contrary to today's readings,
growth out of control. Where is God in all this?
My full-time job for the diocese, the Catholic Church, is to empower
people to grow in their faith. But, here’s the rub. What if the Holy
Spirit leads someone to worship with a different faith community
AND if by doing so, that person grows closer to God, becomes more
loving and flourishes as a human being?
Honestly, in this situation, we have genuine cause to celebrate. I
personally may be sad they are not sitting with me at Mass. How-
ever, our faith calls us to help people know and follow Jesus Christ.
We know this happens most fully within a faith community. That
said, our Gospel today also suggests that we do not get to control
when the grain is ready for harvest. We do no control where the
mustard seed grows.
We are simply called to proclaim Jesus and go along with his agenda
for growth, in others and in ourselves

“The Gift: True Love Waits”
Chastity Retreat for High School Youth, grades 9-12
Our Lady of Good Counsel * Saturday, June 20, 2015
8:45am - Welcome * 9:00am - 4:30pm - Retreat
5:00pm Mass (Blessing and Receiving of Rings)
6:00 - 7:30pm Family Potluck Celebration
We will be celebrating a discussing a gift we have been
given by God: The gift of our sexuality. It will
challenge each teen to treasure their God-given gift by
living a life of purity and chastity in every relationship
that they have. We will challenge the teens to realize
that, although the world may say that it is best to feed our
hunger for relationships with sexual relationships and
experiences, ultimately this hurts us spiritually,
emotionally, and even physically. We will introduce the
virtue of chastity which is the integration of our
sexuality into our spirit and body, allowing the spirit to
control our body and desires. This is a very counter-
cultural idea to many teenagers, but is very important
because it allows us to practice true freedom. There will
be a special blessing over all youth participants at the
5:00pm Mass and they will also receive promise rings.
After the Mass, youth and their families will gather in the
Pastoral Center for a family Potluck. All youth
participants MUST be registered to attend the retreat.
