She soon saw the world through the eyes ofValentinus, trusted in his wisdom, and found comfort in his quiet strength. Legend tellsthat, through faith, Valentinus restored Julia's sight.

On the eve ofhis death, Valentinus wrote a la.sl note toJulia, urging her tostay elo.sc toGod. He signed it. From Your Valentine. His sentence was carried out the next morning,i-'cbruaiy 14, 270 AD., near a gale that was named Porla Valentini in his honor, lie wasburied at what is now the Cliurch of Praxedcs in Rome. It is said that Julia herselfplanted a pink-biossoined almond tree near hisgrave. Today, the almond tree remains a.symbol ofabiding love and friendship. On each I'cbruary 14, St. Valentine's Day,messages of affection, love and devotion arc exchanged around the world.
