Virginia DECA Chapter Management GuideHighlight of Changes, 2010-2011

Calendar The calendar can be found on the VA DECA website and will not be printed in this guide. Advisors can download a copy or reference the calendar tab on the website.

New Regions Coming for 2011 - 2012 This year we will begin transitioning from three areas to five regions. In this section you will find

the new region break down. Consider running for one of the five open board positions this winter. State Officer Candidates will be running for their region rather than their area.

District Presidents Now have an online report to fill out each month. A handbook will be available mid-August by the State Action Team.

District Leadership Conference (DLC) Changes The District Supply Order Form is now online. District Winners should be reported online now. DAs should submit DLC participants to Ryan Witzig prior to their DLC for membership approval. Students will take the cluster test associated with their event.

Competitive Event Changes All events offered by DECA Inc will be offered in VA EXCEPT Accounting. The Marketing Communications Team Decision Making Event is new this year. A few of the events now have name changes:

o Technical Sales Event = Professional Selling Evento Financial Analysis Team Decision = Financial Services Team Decision Making

SLDA Changes Limited to Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors Limited to the number of voting delegates that your chapter is allotted with the new formula.

Merit Award New essay topic for Merit Award The application will include a signed verification from the advisor in lieu of a recommendation

letter.

Honor Society Applications The application will include a signed verification from the advisor in lieu of a recommendation

letter. The prior year-end official transcript will be used. Application will be online.

Outstanding DECA Advisor Recognition Award Adjustments to point totals are revised in several activities. The application will be online.

Annual Report

The VA DECA POW Annual Report has a revised format with revised point allocations.

Membership Recognition Recognition of chapters will be based on size, not number of advisors.

Scholarship Applications Applications will be completed online The prior year end official transcript will be used.

State Officer Candidate changes Candidates may set up a display in the exhibit hall at SLC. See section I for specifications.

State Leadership Conference (SLC) Changes

All competitive events will take place in booths similar to ICDC. An application process will be used to select series directors for SLC.

VA DECA Dress Code

DECA is a career and technical education student organization for students enrolled in Marketing. As in business, where company policies related to dress and grooming are maintained, DECA has developed its own dress code. Essentially, correct dress and grooming for any occasion is a matter of exercising good judgment; thus, should questions concerning the code arise, contact your advisor or refer to this form, prior to making a decision. Help build and maintain a positive image of DECA.

The following terms related to dress are applicable to all DECA conferences:

1. Casual Proper attire when traveling to a conference (with hotel rooms available for change of attire on arrival)

Males: Dress Slacks, Dress Cords, Dress Shirt, Sweater. No Jeans, Denim, Overalls, Shorts, T-Shirts, pajamas, slippers.

Females: Dresses, Slacks, Skirt, Blouse, Sweater. No Jeans, Denim, Overalls, Shorts, Halters, T-Shirts, pajamas, slippers.

2. Business Proper attire when traveling to a conference (no hotel available for change of attire on arrival), sessions (i.e., opening, campaign, awards, regional), workshops, interviews, candidate sessions, competition (including testing and performance events), hotel lobby or hotel general areas, exhibits.

Males: Business Suit or Dress Slacks, Dress Shirt, and Sports Coat AND Dress Shoes/Socks, Tie.

Females: Dress or Skirt Suit (skirt w/ blouse, jacket/blazer) or pants suit (pants w/ blouse, jacket/blazer) AND Dress Shoes/Hose. Skirts must be no shorter than 2” above the knee.

3. Pool (If a swimming pool, Jacuzzi, sauna, etc., is available and open to conference attendees): Proper attire only when traveling to and from the pool area or when using the pool. Under no circumstances, is pool attire permitted in the lobby or general area except the immediate pool area itself.

Males and Females: Robe, Swim Suit, Shoes or Sandals, or Warm-Up Suit, Swim Suit, Shoes, Sandals.

4. Street When students are on free time, involved in any activities outside those sponsored by Virginia DECA or outside of the SLC agenda. This does not include travel to and from the conference; casual or business attire is required for travel, see above.

Males and Females: Slacks or shorts with appropriate t-shirt, or warm up suit; shoes or sneakers.

This Dress Code is a must for the professionalism of our organization.
