Eugene W.Gene Ellis, 77, of the Bish-opville Road, passed away Sun-day (Nov. 7, 2010) at his home.Born in the Town of Almond,Jan. 30, 1933, the son ofWilliam and Cora Henshaw Ellis,he had resided all his life in theArkport area. He was a gradu-ate of Arkport Central School,Class of 1951, and served hiscountry as a member of the U.S.

Army during the Korean Con-flict from 1956-1958, earningthe Good Conduct Medal. Hehad been employed early in his

life at the Owens PublishingCompany, the Ellis Service Sta-tion, the former SKF Industriesand Corbin Wood Products,both in Hornell. In 1961 he be-came self-employed haulingpop for Canada Dry in Hornell.He hauled can milk to Grand-view Dairies and DairymansLeague. He hauled can creamfrom various milk processingplants to Mayfair Creamery inBuffalo, and also delivered but-ter from Mayfair Creamery tovarious supermarkets in NewYork. From 1974-1976, he

worked construction for Elder-lee and SJ Groves Construction.In 1976, he started hauling bulkmilk for Crowley Dairies in Ark-port and in 1992 until his retire-ment for Addison Coop. Geneserved as crossing guard for theVillage of Arkport from 2005-2010. Gene also did volunteerwork for RSVP in Hornell, theRed Cross Food Pantry and de-livered Meals On Wheelsfrom 2008-2010. Gene washonored in 2010 as A Senior

Volunteer of the Year forSteuben County.Gene was a member of the Ark-port American Legion Post, No.

1248, a 20-year member of theArkport Hose Company No. 1,former member of the VFW PostNo. 6780 in Dansville, and theHornell Moose Lodge No. 210.He was predeceased by his par-ents; his brother, Willard Ellis;nephew, Dennis Ellis; andnephew, Ed Ell is; and hisbrother-in-law, Robert Kull ofFlorida.He is survived by his wife,Jacquelyn Jackie Fisher Ellis,who he married on Jan. 15,1959; his daughter, Debra (Bur-ton) Price of Arkport; three sons,
