In 1967 he opens his first store, in Milan, in the Galleria Passarella, a window on the world of new tendencies from London to the USA.After just three years the name of Elio Fiorucci is to become a brand with its own industrial production and distribution in Europe, South America and Japan.1974 sees the opening of the second Fiorucci store in Milan, in via Torino: it’s a revolutionary formula on three floors, with fountains and fragrances, selling clothing and home furnishing accessories.In 1976 a Fiorucci Store opens on 59th Street in New York: it’s designed by Ettore Sottsass, Andrea Branzi and Franco Marabelli. Andy Warhol is to choose this as the showcase for the launch of his revolutionary magazine, Interview.Ever sensitive to new trends, Elio Fiorucci is the first, following the film Flashdance, to start selling leotards, muscle warmers, sweatbands and leggings to millions of Jennifer Beals fans.In 1984 there’s an explosion: graffiti-mania. Elio Fiorucci invites Keith Haring, the man who made graffiti an art form, to Milan. Haring works for two days and a night, a non-stop happening, to transform the Galleria Passarella store.A fashion precursor yet again, Elio Fiorucci starts up a new project in 2005 in collaboration with OVS: Baby Angel, a line of apparel that says glamour but is accessible, tongue-in-cheek and feminine, addressing definitely demanding consumers. Small items – sophisticated and entertaining – to combine and recombine to create one’s own style, unique in every detail, everyday.
