    WONDERFUL WORLD OF WESTHOFF

No team in the league has had more kickoff return touchdowns since Mike Westhoffs tenure with the Jets began

in 2001. Since then, the Jets have scored 14 times on kickoff returns. Perhaps even more remarkable than thefact that the Jets lead the league with 14 scores, is that those scores have come from six different players. LeonWashington (4),Justin Miller (3), Brad Smith (3), Chad Morton (2),Jerricho Cotchery (1) andJonathan Carter(1) have all brought a kick back for a score under Westy.

    SCHOOLED BY SCHOTTY

    Drew Brees (SD 02-05)

Schottenheimer arrived in San Diego for Brees second

season and quickly became a large part of his development with 2002 marking his first season as a startingquarterback. In four seasons with Schotty, Brees aver-aged over 3,000 yards a season, completing 62.3% ohis passes and compiling an 84.7 passer rating.

Under Schottys direction, Pennington posted a then career-best 3,352 yardspassing, completing 64.5% of his passes for an 82.6passer rating. Pennington also took home ComebackPlayer of the Year honors as he keyed a Jet return tothe postseason.

    Thomas Jones (NYJ 07-09)

Jones, was considered a journeyman for the earlier parof his career, after spending his first seven seasons inthe league with three different teams. In that time, heaveraged 769.1 yards and 4.9 touchdowns per season. In 2007, he was acquired by the Jets in an offseason trade and instantly became an integral part oCoach Schottenheimers offense. In three seasons under Schotty, Jones averaged 1,277.7 yards rushing and9.3 rushing touchdowns a season and set career-highsin rushing yards and rushing touchdowns last season.

    Mark Sanchez (NYJ 09- )

Sanchez, the Jets 2009 first-round pick, was chosento direct Schottenheimers offense in his rookie season and responded by setting franchise rookie recordsfor completions and passing yards. His rookie seasonwasnt without its low points, but under Schottys tutelage, Sanchez helped lead the Jets to two postseasonvictories, the third rookie quarterback in the AFC to ac-complish that feat since 1970.

    MOORE SCHOOL

Did you know that Jets G Brandon Moore spent a portion ofhis offseason learning from some of the brightest minds atHarvard? Moore took part in the NFLs Business Manage-

ment and Entrepreneurial Program at the Harvard BusinessSchool. Moore and 70 other NFL players crammed a semes-ters worth of classes into a week-long overview program. The players learned a few fundamentals of the businessworld, while brainstorming entrepreneurial endeavors andlistening to guest speakers. Moore doesnt intend on hangingup his pads quite yet, but he knows many former NFL play-ers struggle after their playing days and wants to be preparedfor the future.

I was asked if going to the Harvard seminar meant I was go-ing to be retiring and opening a restaurant this year, Moorewrote in a blog on NewYorkJets.com. No, no, no. Ive got abit more mileage on me. You get so locked into being a foot-ball player and into thinking football is the only competitivevenue out there. I dont think Ill be getting the thrill I get run-ning out on Sunday against New England. But the programwas good, just to see that there are other options out thereafter leaving the game.
