University of Agricultural and Horticultural Sciences, Shivamogga is the first Integrated University in the state of Karnataka which has both agricultural, horticultural and forestry sciences under its purview. The University started functioning st
independently with effect from 1 April, 2013. It has an operational jurisdiction in seven districts viz., Shivamogga, Davanagere, Chikmagalur, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Kodagu and Chitradurga. The Government of Karnataka has granted 786 acres of land to build the University Head quarters at Iruvakki, Anandapura on the way to Sagar.
Mandates
Ÿ Imparting education towards development of quality human resource in different branches of Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry.
Ÿ Further the advancement of learning and conducting of research in Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry and other allied Sciences.
Ÿ Undertaking the extension education of science and technologies especially for the farming and rural people of the State.
Ÿ Promoting partnership and linkages with National and International educational, research institutions and industries.

To make the University a Centre of Excellence in Academics, Research, Development and Extension management in the fields of Agricultural, Horticultural and Forestry Sciences.
Mission
To build the University as a premier institution to provide best professional education and consultancy, R&D solutions addressing key issues confronting the sector growth and achieve excellence with quality outputs in frontier areas of Agriculture, Horticulture, Forestry and allied sciences, contract services in public and private domains at national and international levels.

Education
The University has six educational institutes viz., College of Agriculture, Shivamogga, College of Horticulture, Mudigere and Hiriyur, College of Forestry, Ponnampet, Diploma College of Agriculture, Kathalagere and Brahmavar.
It is a matter of honour and pride that the UAHS and its four constituent Colleges have been accredited and recognised by the Indian Council of Agricultural Research, New Delhi within four years of its establishment during the year 2016-17.

Since the inception of the University, a total of 1455 students graduated from the University in different disciplines of Agriculture, Horticulture and Forestry. Students are admitted to the degree programmes through KEA, ICAR, NRI and lateral entries of Diploma. Till now, 472 students have obtained Master's Degree and 44 students Doctoral Degree in different disciplines. Totally, 132 students passed ICAR JRFs, 20 students passed ICAR SRFs and 4 students cleared NTS from the University since inception. Apart from this, 21 students of our University have been appointed as ARS Scientists. A total of 465 students have obtained Diploma (Agriculture) from the University. University is also offering one year Diploma in Agricultural Extension Services for Input Dealers (DAESI) programme and to this date, 428 students have completed this course.
Highlights of PG Education
Ÿ Common admission system for M.Sc. and Ph.D. has been adopted across the farm universities in Karnataka and transparency in admission through OMR sheets and online admission process is ensured. UAHS Shivamogga took the lead and organized common admission for M.Sc. and Ph.D. across all the farm universities for 2019-20.
Ÿ 'National conference on PG research and education in State Agricultural Universities' is being organized every year.
Ÿ PG Research centre with a separate block for field experimentation with up to date research facilities has been established at Bavikere.
Ÿ UAHS has established Laboratories with some new high-tech scientific instruments for improving research capabilities viz., Inductively coupled plasma - optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES), High-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC), Atomic absorption spectroscopy (AAS), Leica Stereoscope Trinocular Microscope, Meiji-Bright field Trinocular Microscope, Total Organic Carbon analyzer, PCR, Gel Documentation, ELISA Readers,
0Centrifingers - 80 c Deep Fridges etc. The University has made provision for Post Doctoral Fellowship in few chosen areas.

Paddy Variety, Sahyadri Suma(KPR-1):Tolerant to neck and leaf blast disease suitable for Zone-9
Paddy Variety, Sahyadri Madhu (KKP-5): Tolerant to BPH and Blast recommended to command area
Areca Variety, Maidan Local: High yielding areca variety for maidan region of Zone-7
Cashew Variety, Vridhachalam-3 (VRI-3): High yielding cashew variety of TNAU recommended and adopted for Zone-10
University has a Main Agricultural and Horticultural Research Stations at Iruvakki, four Zonal Agricultural and Horticultural Research Stations at Navile (Shivamogga), Babbur (Hiriyur), Mudigere and Brahmavar along with AHRS, Kathalagere, Ullal, Thirthahalli, Ponnampet, Sringeri, Bavikere, Honnavile, Madikeri and Kademadkal.

Ÿ University has initiated Centre of Excellence on Pesticide Residue Testing for Monitoring and Assuring Quality of Soil, Water and Food, Centre of Excellence for Diagnosis of Plant Diseases and Pests, Centre for Climate Resilience Agriculture and Farm Machinery Training and Testing Institute (FMTTI) for the benefit of the farming community.
Ÿ University has produced and distributed 71467 q of seeds of different agriculture crops, 93.24 q of seeds of different horticulture crops, 1,54,665 numbers of seednuts of horticultural crops (Coconut/Arecanut), 32,08,835 numbers of quality planting materials, 88,510 Kgs of bio-fertilizers/bio-control agents and 3,011 Kgs of honey for the farming community in last 5 years.
Extension - Farmers' OutreachActivities
The Directorate of Extension of the University has a statutory role to provide directions and leadership in extension education activity. The ultimate goal of this wing is to enhance the sustainable net income of the farmer by taking all the enterprises on the farm into consideration, integrating them and treating the whole farm as one unit. This Directorate has four Krishi Vigyan Kendras, one each at Shivamogga, Chitradurga, Udupi and Chikmagalur; two Extension Education Units at Kathalagere and Madikeri; two Extension Units at Sringeri and Thirthahalli.
Major activities
nConducting Front Line Demonstrations and Technology Assesments on different innovative approved technologies in different crops for the farming community.
n Conducting innovative extension activities and large scale demonstrations like Integrated farming system, wilt management in black pepper, intercropping of pulse crops in maize, mechanisation in paddy, management of pests and diseases in pomegranate, pepper etc.,
nConducting different vocational programmes viz., Coconut palm climbing, High-tech Horticulture, Mushroom cultivation, Poultry, etc.and short term courses like value addition of food crops, Bee keeping , etc.
n Organizing Technical Workshops/Seminars, Bimonthly and Trimonthly Technical Workshops for extension functionaries, farmer's scientists interaction, field days, farmer's field schools, exposure visits, consultation in person, consultancies over phone, field visits, diagnostic field visits, technology weeks celebration of important days, regular radio talks and TV programmes etc., for the benefit of the farming community.
nAnnual Review Workshop of KVKs of Zone XI was held by our University at Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Mudigere, Chikmagalur.
n Our University Scientists are providing technical information to the farming community daily through Negila Miditha and Krushi Sampada special programmes which are being broadcasted through All India Radio, Bhadravathi and Chitradurga.
n More than 10,000 soil health cards have been distributed and recommendations have been given on fertilizer applications for different crops for the farming community.
n University is organizing Krishi Melas/One day Seminar regularly each year to display and transfer the new with different themesagricultural technologies for the farming community.
n During Covid-19 pandemic, the University established Agri War s Room in KVK facilitating on-line marketing of 974 tonnes of fruits
and vegetable worth of Rs. 4.30 crores, attended 3981 telephonic calls, 4887 farm advisories, 288 field visits, 81520 social media contacts to help the farmers under stress.

We have well equipped libraries in all the Colleges with good number of collections and CeRA connectivity to provide a gate way for students and faculty to access various resources both in print/physical and digital forms. Further, the University library located at Shivamogga has been taken to the level of fully digitalization by establishing RFID & Koha software for library management in the libraries of different campus under UAHS.
