Fourth of July in Small Town, USABy Sami Kennedy
Nothing beats a small town unlessits a small town on the Fourth ofJuly. Ive traveled a lot in my lifeand from experience, I can tell youthe most wonderful thing in life isfamily, friends and a small town toenjoy them in.
The Fourth of July is commonlyassociated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, fairs, picnics, concerts, baseball games, familyreunions, political speeches, ceremo-nies and various other public and pri -vate events celebrating the history,
government and traditions of theUnited States. Take all those thingsand mix them with the warmth andatmosphere of a Fourth of July smalltown celebration and you have anexplosive combination.
When you go to a celebration ina small town, you get to see friendsand catch on town news, find outhow friends and their families aredoing and see people you probablyhavent seen since last year. Andthe food, lots and lots of food younormally wouldnt eat on a dailybasis; but you can give yourself abreak, right, because its a holidayand its not something youd eat ona daily basis.
Celebrations in a small town makethe July 4th very special for me. Itbrings back memories of old mov-
ies where families and friends gettogether and celebrate making itthrough another year, no matter howhard times have been, and appreciatethe things they have, not complainingabout what they dont have. But per-
haps the most important thing I see isthe appreciation of life and a freedomof life that is not as easily seen in alarge city atmosphere.
Its also an inexpensive outing
for the whole family, something foreveryone. Less stress because yourchildren are much safer and its a loteasier on our pockets. Somethingmany people in this day and agedont think about that we see in oursmall town gatherings simpler andless expensive entertainment and afriendly atmosphere.
So if youre not from a small town, youve got to go see for yourselfwhat an old time, all American towngathering is all about.
And after the day-long celebra-tions, just set back and enjoy the
light show that inspires patriotismin those who watch, along with theintimacy of being in a smaller crowd;its all a part of the appeal when thefireworks burst across the night sky.
Hope to see you there.
