find out why. Situated in the heel of the boot-shaped country that is Italy, Brindisi has been known as the gateway to the East. You can choose to do one of MSCs paid for excursions, or explore the site on your own. Perhaps walk along the boardwalk and sample some famous Italian gelato, or take the cheap tourist train that chugs along the cobbled streets to all the major tourist stops. Alternatively do a biking tour inland amongst the rolling hills or a city tour of Lecce. The ship sets sail at 7h30pm.

Day 5. Tuesday 16 MayBreakfast onboard with optional devotions in the morning. Today’s port of call is Katakolon (Olympia), Greece and the ship will dock at 12 noon. After breakfast you can explore the land yourself, or do an optional excursion organised by the ship, visiting Olympia, which according to the legend, was built to promote the worship of the gods amongst the Greeks. You will see the ruins of the Temple of Zeus, the hippodrome and the stadium, capable of hosting 40 000 spectators. Alternatively, why not hire a scooter and zoom around the island for yourself? There will be some free time for souvenir shopping. The ship sets sail at 6pm. There are plenty of evening activities on board and of course dinner and the cabaret show in the Teatro.

Day 6. Wednesday, 17 MayBreakfast onboard. At 8am the ship will dock in Santorini, Greece. Santorini is the most popular island in Greece. It may be the most popular island in the world! There are few travel destinations that combine beautiful beaches, spectacular scenery, ancient cities, amazing restaurants, some of the world’s best wine, and an active volcano. But Santorini has all this and more. You can either do an excursion via MSC which will offer you a guided city tour of the island, alternatively, you can make your way up the cliff by cable car or donkey, and explore Oia by yourself (which is just as good as a tour!). The ship only sails at 5pm, so you have the entire day to shop, explore, eat and enjoy the view!

Day 7. Thursday, 18 May At 7h30am the ship docks in Piraeus, (Athens), Greece. One of the most popular destinations in Greece, we have a fully inclusive guided tour today to this important Christian site. Apart from climbing the ancient steps of the Acropolis, we will also view Mars Hill where the Apostle Paul taught the locals, and we will have some time for shopping in the city. The ship sails at 5pm, so we will be back in time for an afternoon nap or a drink on the deck before our dinner. This evening we will all dress up in our finest for the Captain’s Dinner, and have a group photo taken on the exquisite Swarovski staircase in the jazz lounge.

Day 8. Friday 19 MayThis morning, we dock at 12h30am in Corfu, Greece. Use the morning to sleep late, catch a tan at the pool deck, play bingo or hit the gym. For those who are keen, join us for a devotional teaching on the New Testament and the End Times from 11-12am. Corfu Town comprises a number of distinct areas: the Historic Centre, the area enclosed by the Old Port and the two forts, consists of several smaller districts all replete with beautiful architecture and picturesque villages. The beaches of Corfu are legendary and offer the perfect opportunity to catch a tan, or enjoy the warm waters of the Med. Some of the excursions on offer include a jeep safari tour, a cultural sightseeing and wine tasting tour, as well as an archaeological walking tour. We set sail at 6h30pm, so those who wish to return a little earlier may wish to visit the spa this day and relax with a sauna session and soothing massage (just remember to book way in advance!).

Day 9. Saturday 20 MayThis morning we dock at 7am in Kotor, Montenegro. Montenegro is a small Balkan country with rugged mountains, medieval villages and a narrow strip of beaches along its Adriatic coastline. Likened to Dubrovnik, this unspoilt gem is the pearl of Europe and is considered one of the Top 10 places in the world to see. Imagine a place with sapphire beaches as spectacular as Croatia’s, rugged peaks as dramatic as Switzerland’s, canyons nearly as deep as Colorado’s, palazzos as elegant as Venice’s and towns as old as Greece’s and then wrap it up in a Mediterranean climate and squish it into an area two-thirds of the size of Wales and you start to get a picture of Montenegro. We sail at 1pm, so make sure you get off the ship early! Tonight is our last one on board, so we will end the tour with a celebratory dinner, followed by a grand finale in the amphitheatre. Best you get packing as well, as trying to fit all your souvenirs into the suitcase may take some time!

Day 10. Sunday 21 MayWe dock at 9am in Venice, ready for a full day of touring. We have included today’s excursion in your tour price which includes a trip to the colourful islands of Murano and Burano. Once upon a time Murano glassblowers were the only people in Europe who knew how to create a mirror and their skills were so valued that they were banned from leaving the city of Venice under threat of execution; today we will watch a craftsman in action as he goes about his daily business, describing his process in English while he works. Afterwards you will have time to browse the huge collection of glass art here and wander the island on your own. Then it’s back on the local boat and off to our next stop, Burano. The tiny island of Burano is famous for two reasons - for its houses, huddled tightly together along streets and canals, each one is painted a different colour with laundry strung up across narrow streets. But Burano’s major claim to fame is its centuries old tradition of lacemaking. Your guide will take you through the streets and across the bridges of Burano to a small building where three women sit in a circle, stitching lace like their moth-ers and grandmothers. After some free time, we will head for the airport where we check in for our flight to Dubai. We land at midnight in Dubai, and after a brief stop over in the airport, we board our flight home to Johannesburg.

Day 11. Monday 23 MayWe land mid-morn-ing at 10h50am back in South Africa at OR Tambo, hav-ing enjoyed a won-derful holiday with new friends and special memories!
