Chapter - 01: Real Numbers

CONCEPTS Types of Number Systems.

includes whole numbers, fractions, and decimals that truncate (end) or repeat. 5. Irrational numbers ( : A number that cannot be written as a fraction is called irrational number

Properties of the number systems. I) Additive properties.

1. Closure property (A1): If a, b Q and a+b Q then Q satisfies closure property in addition. 2. Commutative property (A2): If a, b Q and then Q satisfies commutative property in

addition. 3. Associative property (A3): If a, b, c Q and then Q satisfies Associative

property in addition. 4. Identity property (A4): If a Q and if such that a+ = +a = a then Q satisfies Identity

property in addition, and is called identity element in addition. Note: Identity element in addition is zero.

5. Inverse property (A5): If a Q and if such that a+ = +a = then Q satisfies Inverse property in addition, and is called additive inverse of a. Note: additive inverse of 5 is -5.

(factorised) as a product of primes, and this factorization is unique, apart from the order in
