Get Active for Autism and Support the Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder,

a program of Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge

Autism costs society approximately $35 billion to care for all individuals diagnosed each year over their lifetimes. It costs approximately $2.3 million to raise a child with Autism as compared to $290,000 to raise a child without a diagnosis of Autism. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention says that 1 in 59 children are diagnosed with Autism; another family starts its puzzle. The Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder, a program of Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge, helps the puzzle become more manageable.

Through Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge (FHFGBR), thousands of people have assistance as they navigate through the maze of options available for those with a disability and their families. Every day, Resource Specialists assist families with telephone support and other unbiased resources that provide options for the financial, social, educational, and legal needs of families and loved ones with a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder.

If you were to ask recipients of the services offered through FHFGBR, what changed the most in their lives after becoming involved here, those helped would tell you that it’s simple; we got answers at a time when we didn’t know the questions to ask. Instantly, life changes for those learning that a loved one has a diagnosis of ASD. The Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder (RCASD) provides more than specialized services. It provides peer support, a friend of sorts, to share with through the experiences, and someone to learn from as one navigates through the puzzle.

Families Helping Families of Greater Baton Rouge needs your help to continue making these resources available to our community through the Resource Center for Autism Spectrum Disorder. Today, of the over 14,000 families we have served, our program encounters approximately 5,000 families throughout the Capital Region who are living with a diagnosis of ASD.
