I dont know about you but my house is full of old CDs so I thought I would doa little research on how people have overcome this problem instead of justchucking them in the garbage. I hope you enjoy it and get a bit of a laugh andappreciate some peoples creativity.

You can clad your house with CDs which producesa very nice effect and should also add heaps to thevalue. Lets face it some of those CDs were worth alot of money when you purchased them.

You could also turn the occasional one around toshow the quality like a Windows CD

Scupltures using CDs is becoming ever morepopular and I guess you will never run out ofmaterials.

There are pleanty of things you could melt downthose old CDs with and of course they could turninto works of art.

I was at a Techonology Forum for youth years back and they used blank cdsas decoration for the ceiling. CD's were hung by some type of string and itmade a nice cool affect with the lights. It made a simple ball room very nicebut this was for youth, but i think it would look nice in any case

Local fishermen hang them from fore-and-aft lines - like a glinting "dress ship"- to discourage seagulls from perching and pooing on their moored boats.

live where it gets quite hot, be careful not to burn the fruit from the full sunwhen using the disk.

No 6.Smash them into odd shapes and then usethe pieces to create mosaic patterns for

    display frames, wall murals etc.

This is especially effective using therainbow effect CDs or a combination of theblue and silver ones. Very attractive if doneright.

Try them on lines that squirrels use to access bird feeders...place several in aseries with a small knot between each one. Make sure they can spin freely on

the line...enlarge the hole in the center if needed.

    No 8.

If you get lost and have one with you, it makes a great reflector to attractattention...just direct the shiney side toward the sun and voila! instantattention getter. This is also a life-saver idea if you run off the road throughaccident or whatever and are not visible from the road.

If you have large planters, outdoors or in, you can make an attractive covering

for the dirt to hold moisture in and hide the dirt by really smashing them upinto small shards and placing them on top. CAUTION: suggest you placethem on a layer of netting of some sort so you can remove them easily whensoil needs changed or when transplanting. The shards are sharp! Not idealwhere young children are for the same reason.

You could have a go at decorating them with yourlatest art work.

Once again offer them on ebay.

    You just never know.

If you have wire racks in the refrigerator and need to keep small bottles etc onthe shelf, place a CD beneath the item and it won't tip and spill easily.

Make them into fish attractors for trolling. A carbide tip works best for cuttingthe disks so I've been told. Haven't tried it yet. Don't forget the safety goggles!

First, let me point out we live WAY out in the country. Okay?

Son #1 uses them for target practice and skeet shooting.

Son # 2 has made interesting wagon wheels out of them. They also look coolon bicycle spokes.

Wife hangs them on blueberry bushes to keep deer away.

Chickens like to peck at them.

I use the CD spindle containers to scoop up the dogfood and chicken feed.

One year for a party at work we lined up several small office trash cans (oneto a team) and used the cd's for a modified version of ringtoss.

The object was to see who could get the most in a can out of ten trieswhile standing about 10 feet away.

    Hi from South Carolina... Quentin!

I've got a friend who uses old cds to make lamps. He utilizes the "holes" in themiddle for the power cord that runs up to the electrical lamp.

I've got the same problem, Quentin. I'm in broadcsting and am ALWAYSsurrounded by cd's.

Any old CD can be turned into a fascinating multimedia experience by simply

microwaving it for as long as you can stand. Watch the exciting light show.

Listen to the snap crackle and pop Smell the toxic fumes.

Much better than watching TV, tho the cleaning up is rather tiresome.

My cat was very interested in the shiny new AOL CD I had just opened, so Idecided to throw it like a frisbee and see if he would chase it.

The CD wasn't very aerodynamic, and as Murphy's Law activated, the CD

curved downward and struck the cat between the eyes with an audible "bonk!"

The cat was not harmed, but he sat there blinking with that "how could you beso freaking stupid" look on his face. I don't think I'll ever forget it!

So I vote "no" for using old CD's as cat frisbees (and so does my cat!).

The keywas to go slow. Then I used the dremel to smooth the edges and punch theholes to slip cord through to hang them. The finishing touch is to paint thelabel side with acrylic paint sponged on, or use snow texture paint, or glueand glitter. The commercial cd's show a pretty silvery color and writeable cdsa lovely gold color. You can personalize the small ornaments with kids nameswritten with a metallic permanent marker or acrylic paint. and use for candy dishes, fountain bowls, etcI was reading about what to do with spare cds or cd roms, and one suggestion involvedputting them in the oven to melt them. This can be dangerous because the silver dye is

toxic. When the plastic melts in the oven, there will be no protection for this layer of dye.

Be very careful though, they get very hot.Make sure you ask first!

This is something that I have done with those old CD's we all seem to get inthe mail. I painted the advertisement side black. On the computer I made a"birthday label" on card stock, which is better than a label, cut it out and gluedit over the center hole area on the shinny side of the CD and hot glued twelvepieces of hard candy around the disk. To the back side, I used one of thoseFREE heavy duty magnets that some pharmacy's give out, to the back. Thiswill hold to a 'fridge quite well.

Have you ever loaded a faulty CD into a high speed (30X or higher) CD-ROMplayer, heard it spin up to incredible speeds, rattling and whining, and thoughtto yourself: "this thing is going to explode"? When CDs came out they wereheralded as the solution for the need for high storage-high speed informationdevices, transferring data at a whopping 150kb/s, but like all technologies, 1x

CD players quickly became obsolete as the need for higher and highertransfer rates pushed for faster players, and, with them, higher rotationalspeeds. As we advance into the 21st century CD players are reaching theultimate speed limit: we are getting to the point where the CD player simplycan not spin the CD any faster or else the CD will literally fly apart. On the interests of the advancement of high speed computing PowerLabsbrings to you:

    "THE ULTIMATE CD SPEED LIMIT!"

WARNING: This page is written for amusement only: These experiments areVERY hazardous!; A high speed rotating CD Rom is a bomb ready to explodeand will send razor sharp plastic shrapnel in all directions when leastexpected. Do not attempt to replicate any of the experiments describedbelow!
