Step 1: make a line down the middle to separate left and right side of the equation

9x + 2 = 20

Step 2: Move the number furthest from the variable

9x + 2 = 20

Goal: Isolate the variable! (get x by itself)

Step 3: Continue to get the variable by itself

9x + 2 = 20 -2 -2

9x = 18
