Dear Westmount Families and Community Members,

October is a month of several themes: celebration, memory, academic updates and, surprisingly, looking ahead to the next school year.

On October 6, we hosted our Awards Assembly where we celebrated the academic achieve-ments of our students who demonstrated academic excellence during the second semester of the 2015-2016 school year.

Next week, on October 14, all students will receive an interim report card This report card is an initial snapshot of their progress in each of their classes to date. Parents/Guardians will have an opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with their teachers on Parent-Teacher Interview Night which takes place on Thursday, October 27 from 6:30 pm to 8:30 pm. We encourage you to meet with your child’s teachers and request that you complete the form and have your child re-turn it to his/her teacher as quickly as possible in order to secure a timeslot. Should you require additional time, you may speak with your child’s teacher(s) directly, and book a time on a different day.

On October 20, WCI is hosting its annual Holocaust Assembly. Students will listen to the moving stories of two Holocaust survivors—Hedy Bohm, who survived the horrors of Auschwitz-Birkenau, and Eva Meisels, who survived the dismal conditions in the Budapest ghetto, and who was saved by the intervention of Raoul Wallenberg.

Also, on October 20, and for the first time at WCI, we will be piloting an opportunity for some stu-dents to write the OSSLT (Ontario Secondary School Literacy Test), using EQAO’s digital format. 120 students have been selected to write the digital version. Please note that October 20 is a regular scheduled day for all other students.

As incredible as it sounds, we are beginning to look ahead to the 2017-2018 school year! On Wednesday, October 19, we will be hosting our Arts Info Night to share exciting aspects of our Arts West Programs for students and families who wish to apply for next year.

We, the staff and administration of Westmount, wish everyone happy October holidays!
