Nokia Siemens Networks Flexi Base StationNew level of environmental performance

Superior energy efficiency

• Up to 60% less power consumption than 1st generation 3G base stations

• No additional cooling systems needed

• Minimum rectifier and battery investment

Safe use of materials

• Small size leads to less material used

• Complying to latest environmental directives

Site solution fitting the environment

• Less visible sites can be selected, more options available

Logistic

• Less to transport at each step of manufacturing and distribution, less energy consumed

• Less packaging material used

TELL:

NSN is continuously working to make environmentally friendly products.

The NSN Flexi WCDMA BTS is a welcome addition to this end.

The Flexi WCDMA BTS has superior energy efficiency due to:

- BTS level energy consumption decreased by improved PA linearity

- For a 1+1+1 configuration (20W per carrier) the energy consumption of Nokia Flexi WCDMA BTS is less than 750 W. This is 60% less than for typical 1st generation WCDMA BTS.

- At BTS site level the improvement is even greater as the need for cooling systems will decreased. This is a great advance in the situation where the NSN Flexi WCDMA BTS could be installed to outdoor instead of indoor solution.

Safe use of materials

- Weight of NSN Flexi WCDMA BTS is reduced to 45kg, which is 80% less than with typical cabinet type WCDMA BTS.

- NSN Flexi WCDMA BTS meets EU ROHS directive. Lead-free soldering used in manufacturing.

Less to transport, less to manufacture, less waste produced and less packaging material used

Baseband capacity by SW License

•Flexi Multimode System Module is designed to support baseband capacity upgrades without site visits.

•The LTE Baseband (BB) capacity of the Flexi Multiradio BTS can be optimized depending of the required traffic capacity of the site.

• More baseband capacity can be allocated remotely from NetAct by sending Baseband SW License to Flexi Multiradio BTS.

•Capacity can be increased in steps of Mbps.

•A second System Module can be connected to the first System Module, doubling the Flexi Multiradio BTS LTE baseband capacity.

Transmission Sub-Modules (1/2)

Flexi Multiradio BTS backhaul interfaces are provided by field-replaceable Flexi Transport sub-modules which are mounted on top of the Flexi System Module (FSM) core.

One System Module (FSME or FSMD), can be equipped with one of the following transmission sub-module alternatives:

•Hybrid E1/T1/JT1 transmission sub module (FTIB)

•Ethernet transmission sub module (FTLB)

Page 28: 10 Ra4120aen10gla0 Nsn Lte Solution v02

Transmission Sub-Modules (2/2)

FTLB It can support 2 Gbit/s (DL+UL) throughput including IPSec, taking into account also encryption of the intra-eNB link between the two Flexi System Modules (increases BB capacity).

Flexi Transport sub-modules throughput performance (with IPSec)

FTIB •It is a lower-cost Flexi Transport sub-modules.•It has a 160 Mbit/s throughput performance (DL+UL, with IPSec). •This will be sufficient for very many eNB sites.

External Interfaces of the Flexi Multimode System Module

S1 and X2 interfacesThe connectors for the S1/X2 are located on the front panel of the transmission sub-module (FTxx). The cables are routed to the side of the System Module. The alternative Flexi Transport sub-module can be changed on site, for example future transport capacity or feature evolution purposes.

BTS Element Management portAn Element Manager PC can be connected to the management port connector at the System Module, for commissioning, operations, maintenance, and testing of the BTS. An RJ45 Ethernet connector is used.

Integrated Ethernet switch for external devicesThese four Ethernet interfaces can be used to carry initialization data, control data, and signaling data from the BTS to any auxiliary equipment that has an Ethernet port and an IP address.Equipment such as an external Site Support, and microwave radio equipment can also be connected to the Flexi Multiradio BTS via these ports. The connectors are located in the Flexi Multiradio BTS System Module.Interfaces are three 10/100/1000Base-T and one 10/100Base-TX all with RJ45 connectors.

Power feedingA Flexi Multiradio BTS site has one common DC input power supply that is connected to the System Module. The System Module distributes DC current to the RF Modules and second System Module operating in baseband extension mode. The AC connector is at a separate optional Flexi AC-DC Power Module (FPMA).

External alarms and controls (EAC)External alarms and control (EAC) signals are used to collect simple ON/OFF external alarms (12) from any equipment that is external to the BTS. They are also used to provide ON/OFF control signals (6) for controlling external devices.

External Synchronization InputWhen using this HW connector Flexi Multiradio BTS can be optionally synchronized with an external clock signal (e.g. GPS, 2 MHz or 10 MHz signal). This might be required e.g. in a case when backhaul transmission over Ethernet does not support reference clock signal or timing packets.

External Synchronization OutputFlexi Multiradio BTS can provide clock reference signal to other co-located BTS nearby (2G, 3G and future BTS) via MDR14 connector in System Module.
