10 questions for a respected English Professor
by: Arnielyn S. Dicen
Meet Professor Remedios Montanez de la Rosa
also known as “Ma’am Rems”, a 58 years old EnglishProfessor in the College of Education University of
Perpetual Help System Laguna (UPHSL). She is
presently living with her family at 136 Langkiwa, Bińan
City. She graduated her degree in BS Human Ecology in
Ma’am Rems with her husband UP Los Bańos and has taken up her MA and Doctor in Education here at UPHSL.
Her 27 years of teaching made me wonder andimmediately an urge dares me to ask questions to her, I never stopped until she
answers me.
1. What makes you decide to choose this Teaching career?
“Actually, it’s not my choice to be a teacher; I believed I was destined to be one.
No regrets. I found diamonds into it. I may not earn that much but I have lots of
jewel, my students.”
2. What is your personal Education Philosophy?
“My personal philosophy as far as education is concerned is, “one who dares to
teach never ceases to learn.”
3. How do you find teaching at UPHSL?
“I found my teaching career at UPHSL as challenging, enjoyable, rewarding and
fulfilling.”
4. How about your encounter with present Education Students?
“At present, I can say that education students are totally different from the rest in
terms of discipline and manners. I have observed especially my students know
very well the demands of their chosen career, the high regard to moral values.”
5. What was the most rewarding/frustrating moment about your student teaching?
“It was several years ago when I have my student practice teaching and I could hardly forget that moment when I bid goodbye to my students. They have their
own messages to say that truly touched my heart. It’s so rewarding to hear their
praises and thankfulness for a short period of time, 3 months.
6. In your 27 years of teaching, what do you regard as your major achievement?

“My major achievement in the field of teaching was seeing my students
accomplished and on top.”
7. Describe a situation happened before that taught you the most about being a good
teacher.
“It was when my students awarded me as an Outstanding Teacher evident that, what a teacher sow he/she will reap. This inspired me a lot to continue doing my
best.”
8. If I am going to interview your students, what do you think would they say about you?
“My students would probably comment on my seriousness and strictness, well
that’s me, however more than that I wish they will say “they learned a lot fromme.””
9. What are your plans after retirement?
“Well as I usually say, I still want to teach, probably as part timer in the College
of Education. Also, I want to venture on, “Go Grow Plants for Good Health”,this is more on gardening at the same time earning and enjoying the beauty of
herbal and flowering plants.”
10. What will be your message to our young professors in the College of Education who
are now on their way too of counting years in teaching profession?
“My message to our young professors is, “everything that happened, happening and will happen to our life is always with a purpose. Nothing happened by
accident, that being a teacher is no accident at all. So make the best out of it,
enjoy and keep on touching students’ lives.” Always make ordinary student extraordinary.”
Now, we have read the thoughts of a veteran, we have understand the feelings of an
expert and I hope we have realized something from her wide wisdom. That’s what makes“Ma’am Rems” one of the favorite professors here UPHSL.”

You’re the greatest thing to mesmerize…
Every night I used to hear, Your whisper in my ears
I always see you in my dreams‘Till your name I began to scream…
That’s why I don’t want to give you one kiss‘Coz I know I am going to miss
Just to say I Love You,Is all that I can do…
