Set out on a southern road trip Jump in your car for a road trip and explore the southern end of our region. Drop in to Steele Rudds Shingle hut where Aurthur Hoey Davis “Steele Rudd” the author of On Our Selection lived during his childhood years, or enjoy a good meal and lose yourself in the historical displays at Rudd’s Pub. The real gem of this part of the region is of course, the picturesque landscape. From December to January the sunflowers around Clifton come to life and make for spectacular photos. Check out our Instagram page for inspiration!

Marvel at Muntapa Tunnel The Muntapa Tunnel between Oakey and Cooyar is one of our region’s historical hidden treasures. Built in 1910, the 250 metre long tunnel was designed as a railway tunnel for farmers but following the closure of the railway line in 1964, the area has been turned into a park.

There are picnic tables and BBQ’s so be sure to pack a big lunch before you head out. Check out the parks locator on our website: www.tr.qld.gov.au for details on how to get there.

Lake Cooby is only a 35 kilometre drive from Toowoomba and easily accessible from the New England Highway. When travelling north from Toowoomba just look for the turn-off to your left at Highfields.
