How Long Do Recruiters Spend Reading Your Resume ?

When you start looking for a job you may not be aware about the number of competitors who are

applying for the same position just like you. You may not understand why no one is calling you for a job

interview even if you think you are qualified for the job. The gap between your expectations and the

reality is sometimes so chocking that you start believing that something is wrong with your resume. It is

the most logical conclusion after so many unsuccessful job applications.

It could be true, in this case it would be wise to show your resume to your friends or some experienced

people. But, what if everything is just fine and still no one calls you ! I am sure hundreds of people are

suffering from this problem, I used to be one of them, and today I can explain what is really happening.

Today, I am not a candidate anymore, I am in the other side, I see how things work, how candidates are

selected, classified, rejected or even forgotten ! It may surprise you but this is the truth, believe it or not,

those to who you are sending your resume and cover letter are people juste like you, people who can be

sick, bored, hungry, overloaded by work, and your resume will be evaluated under all these conditions !

You want to hear something even more chocking ? The average time a recruiter spend reading your

resume is 5 seconds ! It is perfectly normal because the average number of job applications received for

only one position is 200 minimum ! Do you think 5 seconds are enough to assess your qualifications and

experience ? certainly not. I can guarantee you there is a lot of candidates who are invited for an interview

just because they were lucky enough to get their CV noticed by the recruiter.

In my opinion any candidate should put all the chances in his side to get his job application noticed, with

so many competitors, things does not depend only on qualifications as it is used to be.

So now what if instead of 5 seconds the recruiter spend 20 seconds reading your CV ? Do you think you

will have more chances to receive a phone call ? Absolutely, mathematically you will you multiply the

probability of being invited by four! There are several ways to do it, one of the most effective is to use a

resume template different than the competitors. The black & white classic resume will not make it

anymore, it still can work but we are not in the 90’s anymore, everything changes so why not the way we

apply for a job too !?

You may think that the recruiter will laugh when he receives a creative resume, ok let’s assume he wil
