KAILASH MANSAROVAR YATRA 2019: EAM FLAGS OFF 1ST BATCHOF YATRIS

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced the commencement of the KailashMansarovar Yatra, while asserting that the pilgrimage is an "important step" towardspromoting people-to-people exchanges, and strengthening friendship and understandingbetween India and China. Speaking at an event held at the Jawaharlal Nehru Bhawan here, he also shared his personalexperience of visiting the holy site when he was posted as an ambassador in China. The minister, while announcing the commencement of the yatra for the Lipulekh route, saidthat the interest in the pilgrimage, which started in 1981, has "increased significantly" over theyears. "Let me take this opportunity, to put on record the support and cooperation we have receivedfrom many other ministries and agencies, particulary from the state governments ofUttarakhand, Sikkim and Delhi in successful organisation of the yatra," he said. "I would also like to recognise the support extended by the government of the People's RepublicOf China in organising of the yatra, which is an important step towards promoting people-to-people exchanges and strengthening friendship and understanding between the twocountries," the minister said. For Kailash Mansarovar Yatra 2019, the ministry had received 2,996 applications, out of which2,256 were by male applicants and 740 by females. As many as 624 senior citizens had appliedfor the yatra. India conducted a successful first test flight of the indigenously developed Hypersonic Technology

Demonstrator Vehicle (HSTDV) from a base off the Odisha coast. The only other countries that

possess this technology are the US, Russia and China.

The HSTDV is an unmanned scramjet (allowing supersonic combustion) demonstration vehicle that

can cruise up to a speed of mach 6 (or six times the speed of sound) and rise up to an altitude of 32.

km in 20 seconds.

It has a range of uses, including missiles of the future, and energy-efficient, low cost and reusable

satellite-launch vehicle.

What gives a hypersonic missile its potency is the speed at which it travels, said Rajeshwari

Rajagopalan, an expert on space and nuclear technology at the New Delhi- based Observer Research

Foundation think tank. Countries like Russia and China have perfected this technology which

makes it key for India to acquire it, she said. “This test today puts India in an elite club of nations

definitely, but India will have to perfect the technology with many more tests," said Rajagopalan.

Air India plans to launch services from Delhi to Bali, Nairobi and Toronto in the winter scheduleas it looks to consolidate its position as the largest carrier on overseas routes from India.Currently, there is no non-stop service from Delhi to Nairobi and Bali while Air Canada fliesdaily to Toronto.New services are being proposed as Air India expects the return of its seventeen groundedplanes in service by October end. Thrice weekly Delhi-Toronto flight will be launched onSeptember 27, civil aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri tweeted.Source - Business Standard



India plans to have its own space station, and modalities for it will be worked out after the first

manned mission, Gaganyaan, scheduled for August 2022, K. Sivan, Chairman of the Indian Space

Research Organisation (ISRO), said.

“We want to have a separate space station. We will launch a small module for microgravity

experiments... that is our ambition,” he said, addressing the media. A detailed report would be

submitted to the government after the Gaganyaan mission.

Dr. Sivan said the proposed space station is envisaged to weigh 20 tonnes and serve as a facility

where astronauts can stay for 15-20 days, and it would be placed in an orbit 400 km above earth.

The time frame for launch is 5-7 years after Gaganyaan, he added.

The ISRO would also join the international space community for a manned mission to moon and

beyond, Dr. Sivan said.

SALLI BOTI RECIPEFLAVOR'S OF INDIA

How to Make Salli Boti : 1. Heat the oil in a pan and add onions to it. 2. Fry till turn golden brown 3. Add ginger-garlic paste, mutton, red chilli powder andturmeric powder. 4. Mix well. 5. Now mix in the the roasted coriander powder, cuminpowder followed by tomatoes, stir again. 6. Add a little sugar and vinegar. 7. Add garam masala and salt, mix well. 8. Reduce the flame and cover till cooked for about 30 to40 minutes. 9. Add chopped coriander and give it a final stir. 10. Garnish it with more coriander leaves and top it up with lots of Salli.
