  • Discussion Questions: 1. What kind of music do you like?

-I like many kinds of music. I like pop music a lot because it makes me feel happy. I also like classical music because its relaxing. I like hip-hop too.

    2. What kind of music do you hate? Why?

-I hate heavy metal music. It is so loud and the singers scream. I cant understand why someone would want to listen to it.

    3. Is live music (like concerts) popular in your country?

-Yes, live music and concerts are very popular in the U.S. There are big concerts for very famous artists and smaller shows for lesser known musicians. Most singers and bands go on tour to promote their music.

    4. Do you ever sing karaoke? Tell me about it or say why you dont.

-Yes, sometimes. I love singing karaoke. I think it is very fun and I like singing a lot. I won a karaoke contest once.

    5. Why is English music so popular? Can a band or singer be famous worldwide if

they dont sing in English? -I think English music is so popular because English is kind of a world language. People all over the world learn English, so its a common way for them to communicate. So English music can be understood all over the world. I dont think a band or singer can become famous all over the world without singing in English because most people wouldnt be able to understand the lyrics.

    6. If you could see any singer or band live who would you choose? Why?

-If I could see anyone live, I would see Prince. He plays very good music and gives exciting concerts.

    7. Do you play a musical instrument?

-No, I dont, but I used to. I used to play the piano and the clarinet when I was younger. I took piano lessons and played clarinet in school. I didnt really like either of them, so I stopped playing a long time ago.

    8. Do you ever listen to the radio? When? How often?

-Sometimes. I only listen to the radio in the car when Im driving. I listen maybe once or twice a week. I like to listen to a station that plays the top pop hits.

    9. What kind of music is most popular in your country?

-There are many kinds of popular music in the U.S. For example, country music, pop music, hip-hop, and rap music are all very popular.

  • 10. Whats more important, the lyrics or the melody of a song? Why? -I think both are equally important. The melody or tune of a song is what makes you like it and remember it later. The words of a song are also important too. If a song has stupid lyrics, it makes me not like it very much.
