Announcement - Job Vacancies at MDNThe Maldivian Democracy Network (MDN) is an NGO conducting advocacy, awareness raising and
monitoring initiatives on issues related to democracy and human rights. A key characteristic of MDN isthe organisations independence from partisan politics. MDNs work is focused on advocating
democratic good governance, supporting citizen empowerment and the protection of human rights as
envisaged in the Constitution of the Maldives.
MDN is pleased to announce that it is seeking energetic, pro-active and enthusiastic candidates with a
strong interest in serving the community, for the following positions for its upcoming Political Violence
Monitoring (PVM) Project.
Brief background - PVM Project
The PVM project is funded by USAID with technical assistance from the International Foundation forElectoral Systems (IFES) and is currently in its second phase. Building on past experience and successes,
the new 14 month phase of the project will monitor the situation on political and electoral violence and
produce periodic reports on the trends and patterns identified. Furthermore, as the 2013 presidential
election will fall within the monitoring period, MDN will conduct a voter education campaign with
stakeholders to create awareness on the right to vote and to exercise this right responsibly. MDN will be
conducting the PVM project with technical support and assistance from IFES.
The PVM project is seeking competent individuals with the appropriate skill sets for the following
positions. Interested candidates are invited to obtain detailed ToRs for the posts from

applications by Wednesday, 16 January 2013.

Basic requirements
- University degree in a relevant field- 1 to 2 years experience in a professional work environment - Excellent communication and interpersonal skills- Ability to work on own initiative with minimal supervision and collaboratively with team
members and stakeholders
- High standard of computer literacy and ability to use the internet effectively- Professional approach to work, personal integrity and commitment to transparency andaccountability
Candidates with a high level of commitment to democratic good governance and human rights are
encouraged to apply. Additionally, previous experience of working in the NGO sector and/or community
based services is desirable though not essential. Candidates should have a high level of respect for law
and order and display commitment to resolution of conflict through dialogue, to promote stability in
communities.
