Similar rings were reported from a hoardin Muzaffarnagar (U.P.), probably from a yet un-explored Late Harappan / early Aryan site. These possibly represent a period when problems associated with barter system might have begun to be felt. There might have been a very thin or no borderline between the precious metals being used as jewelry or as object with a certain exchange value (thus gradually replacing barter). Therefore, these might have served as the earliest form of money. The hole in the centre was probably meant for the convenience of safe-keeping (may be strung together and worn as a necklace, thus serving the multiple purposes of jewelry, safe-keeping and also be used as money, if and when required).

Ranas of Mewar were an outstanding example of Rajput bravery, self-respect and patriotism. They were a primary obstacle for the complete Muslim conquest of Hindu India. They not only opposed the Muslim rule in India, but fought several wars with them in order to make India free from Muslim domination. Rana Sanga and Maharana Pratap were the most famous among all, for their opposition and battles against Muslim rulers. Rana Sanga, who fought to free northern India from the Delhi Sultans, and convinced Babur, to challenge Sultan Ibrahim Lodi. Babur defeated Ibrahim at the first battle of Panipat, and Rana Sanga then led an assembled Gurjar and other Rajputs army to drive Babur away and to recapture Delhi from the Muslims. He was defeated by Babur at the Battle of Khanua. Later on, his successors, Maharana Pratap and others continued their opposition and waged wars against Mughals.

Sulayman Mirza: He was son of Mirza Owais Khan, a cousin of Babur. In AH 936, Babur himself appointed him as Governor of Badakhshan, in place of his own son Hindal as the latter was too young to hold responsibilities of the province Humayun betrothed his daughter Bakhshi Begum to his son Mirza Ibrahim. He also became father in law of Mirza Muhammad Hakim by marrying his daughter to him. Mirza hakim was one of the favorite brothers of Emperor Akbar. In spite of being father-in-law of Hakim, he tried many times to overthrow him and take charge of Kabul. A few Shahrukhis dated AH 974 and minted at Kabul does exist. A coin dated AH 98x is listed by Stephen Album in his 'Checklist of Islamic Coins'
rd(3 ed. 2011), but the complete Hijri date 982 is observed for the first time and confirms that Sulayman Mirza controlled Kabul occasionally.

174. Shah Alam II (1759-1806), Silver Rupee, 11.18g, in the name of Shah Alam II, Shergarh mint, AH1198/RY-26 (3 March 1784 -14 Nov. 1784), struck by the Mughalia faction of Afrasiyab Khan's family, the last Mir Bakhshi. The word 'Allah' as a mark on reverse is not known earlier. Very Fine, Extremely Rare. ̀ 50,000-60,000
Mahadji Sindhia was created Vakil-al-Mutlaq on 3
Dec. 1784, near Halena a place about five miles
north of Wer fort. The royal treasure and wealth was
moved by Afrasiyab Khan (the last Mir Bakhshi) to
Aligarh, his personal Jagir. Afrasiyab had placed
the fort of Dig and the lands appertaining to it in
charge of Malik Muhammad Khan. His garrison on
being paid their arrears by Mahadji, evacuated the fort of Dig on 16January 1785 and he occupied it by
his own troops under Devji Patil. Here Mahadji had
to stop for two months because of the fight for
Agra, which surrendered on 27 March 1785.
The next step was to gain Aligarh fort. In order to be
nearer to this place, Sindhia marched up the river to
Mathura (arrived 11 April 1785). At this holy city, and
later at Shergarh, about 25 Km north of Mathura,
presently known as Shergarh Bangar. Sindhia was
camped at Shergarh from around 27 November
1785 to c. 10th January 1786, when he embarked on
the Jaipur campaign.
It shows that the rupee concerned may have been struck at Shergarh, but not by Sindhia. It must have been struck while the Afrasiyab's family was in possession of Dig. Shergarh was a place where the Yamuna could be crossed. It must have been the connecting road between Dig and Aligarh. That must also been the reason for Sindhia that he moved to Shergarh for the capture of Aligarh. Therefore the most likely candidate who was responsible for striking this coin could be Malik Muhammad Khan, who was in charge of Dig fort, or by Jahangir Khan who was in charge at Aligarh and perhaps more powerful than Malik Muhammad in being Afrasiyab's brother. However the link with Dig is more strong as the 'star'-like symbol to the left of the regnal year is a mark frequently found on the rupees of Dig.

During the decline of the Mughal power, Itawa fell in the hands of the Marathas. The battle of Panipat (14 January 1761) dispossessed them for a while, and the district became an appendage of the Jat garrison at Agra. This specific coin bears the date 1174/RY-Ahad, which corresponds to 13.8.1760 to 18.11.1760 AD and thus must be struck prior to the Panipat battle and should therefore fall within the period of Maratha administration. Itawa was base of Govind Ballal that time he was killed in December 1760.
However close observation of this coin reveals that there is no typical Maratha like symbols (or influence). Dr. Bhandare in his article THE MARATHAS IN DELHI IN THE 'PANIPAT' YEAR: A NUMISMATIC INSIGHT', in JONS# 209, has also included a coin issued in the name of Shah Alam II from the Itawa mint bearing only RY-Ahad (w/o hijri date). In the same article it is further clarified that such coins were struck on specific instruction from Sadashiv Rao Bhau.

The Marathas were not in favor of Shah Jahan III and probably continued striking coins in the name of the deceased emperor Alamgir II. A Silver Rupee of RY-8 is also known. The earliest known coin in the name of Shah Alam II is dated AH1175/RY-2 (02/08/1761 - 07/11/ 1761) from Ujjain. This mohur in the name of Alamgir II must have been struck before 9 Oct. 1760 when Shah Jahan III was deposed and Shah Alam II (Prince Ali Gauhar) was acknowledged. This mohur was struck prior to the Battle of Panipat. The Marathas in the North were desperately in need of money and to send large amounts in money, gold would be the best medium. Due to misspelling in the name of Alamgir II, should not be regarded as normal Mughal style issue.

This coin was issued by the Rohilla rebel Ghulam Qadir after blinding Shah Alam II and enthroning Bedar Bakht . At the beginning, Ghulam Qadir, struck coins in the name of deposed king Shah Alam II but soon after coins were struck in the name of Bedar Bakht. (Please see the next lot # 208). This is not the common Ahmedabad in Gujarat, but presumed to be Ghausgarh (Rohilla headquarter ) in Saharanpur district. It was the base of the brief usurper, Bedar Bakht and Rohilla chief Ghulam Qadir.
