  • Rationale!What is a one-to-one program? One-to-one (1 to 1) learning provides every student and teacher access to his or her own mobile device in a wireless environment allowing students to learn at their own pace and ability levels. 1 to 1 initiatives have gained momentum worldwide, and are increasingly seen as a key to transforming education and better preparing students to succeed in a global world.

    In a 1 to 1 program, access to a personal mobile device (such as an iPad) and the Internet enables students to be self-directed and receive highly personalised instruction. Teachers can create personalised learning opportunities for each child, addressing his or her unique needs. Students use their personal devices to research, complete homework and academic coursework, access reading material, manage notes and calendars, solve problems, create multimedia and multimodal texts, collaborate on team projects and communicate via email. At the same time, they gain valuable 21st century skills that will be beneficial throughout their lives and careers.

  • Contemporary learning is personalised and provides anytime, anywhere access for students to portable technologies.

    Teachers, students and parents access to the Australian Curriculum and supporting professional resources will be delivered online.

    Brisbane Catholic Education provides access to teacher and student online learning and teaching environments and content. Eg. LIFE - Learning Management System | Live @ Edu - email | Google Drive - file management.

    The world of students within and beyond the school is connected by the use of contemporary information processing, communication and collaboration tools.

    Teachers engage in continuous learning to enhance their professional practice and the practices of their students.

    School and organisation leaders create the conditions that enable the vision to be realised.

    Parents are empowered to become actively involved in their childs education by accessing online communication, learning, reporting and monitoring systems.

    Planning and resourcing is future-focused and flexibly delivered within the learning context of the school.

    Accountability and improvement are reviewed through the School Cyclical Review process, particularly in relation to Priorities 2 & 3 in the BCE Strategic Renewal Framework.

  • Overview of Parent and Student Responsibilities Students and parents will be responsible for the overall care of the iPad and management of apps. Parents will have full management rights to the iPad and will be responsible for ongoing updates (operating system and apps), including resetting or restoring the iPad if required. Students will be trained to be competent users and maintainers of their iPad.

    For family-owned iPads, Parents will supply a protective cover. The school will provide a cover for school-owned iPads on hire . Students 1will be required to keep the iPad within the protective cover at all times. In the interest of student safety, iPads are not to be used in a public place outside the school, such as on a bus journey home. The iPad is to be treated with due care and stored in trays provided in the classroom when not in use. The device will be utilised by students under supervision during learning and teaching opportunities at school. School staff will implement regular inspections of the device. Students will be subject to the terms of the Acceptable Use of Technology Policy if there is any evidence of inappropriate usage.

    Should a students iPad ever require repair or replacement, the school will provide a replacement hot swap iPad in order to maintain the students access to ongoing learning opportunities. Parents will be required to sign a separate agreement for the loan of a replacement iPad from the school.

    Students will be shown various ways to back up their documents and data. All students will be responsible for the maintenance of regular data backup via the various means recommended by the school. Students will also be required to regularly delete images and files no longer required. To maintain optimum performance, at least 10% of the iPads memory must remain free.

    A list of required apps will be distributed for installation by families. Students will also be able to integrate the use of a home wireless network, home printers and other peripheral devices at parents discretion. Parents are strongly encouraged to supervise use of iPad at home, particularly during students internet use.

    Students must abide by the Information & Communications Technology Resources Student Agreement (see Section 3). Failure to abide by this agreement could result in disciplinary action.

    The iPad will be recharged at home each night ready for the next school day.

    !Information & Communication Technology (ICT) is of critical importance to schools in facilitating and supporting learning, teaching and other administrative activities for teachers, students, parents and administrators.

    St. Catherines Primary School Wishart has established significant computing and communications resources to support these activities. These resources include all network services licensed by Brisbane Catholic Education Centre & St. Catherines Primary School Wishart.

    St. Catherines Primary School Wishart is bound by legislation and good stewardship of resources to ensure the appropriate use of its ICTs. Increased legislation relating to ICT is requiring all organisations to review their internal policies and procedures to ensure compliance.

    ICT resources are supplied in line with the following principles:

    Access to ICT is provided subject to need and availability of resources;

    Privacy, confidentiality and respect of the personal rights of others is maintained;

    The importance of the cost-efficient use of ICTs is recognised;

    Users engage in ethical, legal and responsible use of ICT.

    Conditions of Use of ICT Resources By accessing and using the ICT resources provided by St. Catherines Primary School Wishart, users are agreeing to abide by the Conditions of Use of ICT Resources statement developed by BCE. This statement inform users of their rights, responsibilities and obligations when using ICT resources, consistent with Brisbane Catholic Educations requirements that all such resources are used in an ethical, legal and responsible manner.

  • The School is committed to:

    a. Providing learning experiences that maximise the benefit of the school network and the Internet to enrich and enhance classroom practices;

    b. Developing in students the relevant competencies to be effective and critical users of information and the relevant skills to use the Internet and other information communications technologies safely and responsibly;

    c. Minimising the potential for inappropriate use of the network through the installation of appropriate filtering and monitoring systems; and

    d. Teaching students the correct use of equipment and principles of digital citizenship including online communications etiquette, respecting the privacy of other students work, safe email practices and the need to keep information private.

    We provide students with a limited right to access the Internet while at school, during school hours, in accordance with this agreement, while the student is enrolled at St Catherines Primary School.

    Purpose of Access Monitored use of school computers, access to the school network and the Internet is provided to students for educational and research purposes that are consistent with the schools curriculum objectives. Use of the schools computers, network and Internet access is a privilege.

    Security and Privacy St. Catherines Primary School Wishart recommends the use of third party services such as Manga 2High (numeracy skill development) and Google Drive (cloud storage and document sharing) for students. St. Catherines Primary School Wishart may disclose personal information about an individual to an external service provider for the limited purpose of storing and managing the information, for instance, when using public Internet services to create learning and teaching content.

    The school may also disclose personal information to overseas recipients, for instance, when storing personal information and data with cloud service providers, which are situated outside Australia. Selected services are carefully reviewed against Privacy Principles detailed in the Australian Privacy Act . A copy of the Due Diligence Checklist is included in Appendix A.     Parent/Guardian Responsibilities The proper use of information communications technology is the joint responsibility of students, parents/guardians and school staff. Parents and guardians should, therefore, share with the school the responsibility for setting and conveying standards for acceptable use when using electronic media and information sources. We recognise the necessity of close co-operation between the home and school in this area in order to provide the best possible educational opportunities for students. It is vitally important that the values espoused by the home and by the School are in harmony, and that parents/guardians support the school in maintaining acceptable standards of use.

    It is the responsibility of parents/guardians to ensure that they and their child are aware of and abide by the policies, care guidelines and responsible use expectations of the school.

    Where there is more than one parent/guardian, each parent/guardian accepts full responsibility for ensuring these policies are adhered to.

    Policy Update This policy will be updated as necessary. All attempts will be made to adhere to the above policy, but particular circumstances (such as technological advancements) may require the Principal to depart from the stated policy.

  • Access Consent Form for ICT Resources!This Consent Form must be signed prior to students being granted access to the internet and other information and communication technology resources at St. Catherines School.

    Parents/guardians are encouraged to review and discuss the contents of the Acceptable Use of Information & Communications Technology Resources Student Agreement (see following pages) with the student and answer any questions that they may have.

    By signing this Consent Form, both parents/guardians and students are agreeing to the terms of access as set out in the Acceptable Use of Information & Communications Technology Resources Student Agreement and acknowledge that they will be responsible in the event of any breach and that appropriate disciplinary steps may result.

    Any queries in relation to this material should be directed to the School Principal, Mr Paul Leeson.

    Student Agreement!This agreement applies to all school-owned resources and family-owned devices brought to school.

    !Respecting Myself and Others

    When using ICTs at St Catherines:

    1. I will keep in mind that my technology use affects others. 2. I will treat others in the same way that I wish to be treated. 3. I will respect others rights to feel safe. 4. I will not hold accounts or participate in any social media sites intended for people 13 years and older (such as Facebook and MySpace) without express written advice from my teachers to my parents/guardians that such an account is required for learning and teaching purposes. 5. I will respect the conditions (terms, rules, regulations etc) of all software, apps and ICTs I use. 6. I will be a critical user of online information sources by

    applying strategies to identify the sources I use

    avoiding plagiarism

    knowing what can or cannot be copied 7. I will strive to recognise the needs, emotions and views of others and show understanding and empathy for others. 8. If I am unsure or need clarification I will always ask for it. !Consequences I realise that if I do not follow appropriate digital citizenship practices the school may inform my parents/caregivers. In serious cases, the school may take disciplinary action against me. My family may be charged for repair costs. If illegal material or activities are involved or e-crime is suspected, it may be necessary for the school to inform the police and hold securely personal items for potential examination by police. Such actions may occur even if the incident occurs off-site and/or out of school hours.

  • 1 to 1 iPad Program - Guidelines for Students and Parents!1. Education Purposes Students are to use their iPad for educational purposes.

    The iPad must be installed with all the required apps for student use. On receipt of the completed Access Consent Form for ICT Resources (page x), the school will install a wireless certificate to allow internet access at school.

    Non-requisite apps or data should not inhibit the use of the iPad as a learning tool. Non-requisite apps or data on any students iPad should not compromise learning opportunities for any other student at the school.

    The school reserves the right to carry out inspections of iPads at any time.

    2. Student Responsibilities Each student is responsible for keeping their iPad secure.

    It is the students responsibility to charge their iPad at home each evening. Limited charging facilities may be available at school. Reliance on these may inhibit learning opportunities for the student.

    While travelling to and from school, iPads are to be carried in the protective cover and placed in school bags.

    Unless directed by the teacher, iPads are not to be used during recess and lunch breaks.

    Each student needs to ensure that they keep their passwords private.

    A lock-screen passcode must be set to limit access to the student who owns/hires each iPad.

    3. Parent Responsibilities Ensure students fulfil their responsibilities as outlined above.

    Supervise or limit student use of the iPad when at home, including Internet use.

    Ensure the student has their iPad at school each day in a condition that will enable it to be usable for any educational purpose.

  • Students are responsible to ensure that the operating system and all apps are kept up to date.

    5. Technical Support Students will be taught how to care for and maintain their iPad.

    In the event of a malfunction parents may contact Apple or the supplier for assistance. However, parents are responsible for resetting or restoring the iPad, should this ever be required. If repairs to family-owned iPads are required, this is also the responsibility of parents. Repairs to school-owned iPads are covered by a separate iPad Hire Agreement.

    iPads are covered by AppleCare Protection for a limited period following purchase. An extension of this warranty period can be purchased at additional cost through the supplier or through Apple Computer. During the period of cover under AppleCare Protection, parents may use the designated support line for Education customers: 1300 968 979. Parents are encouraged to call this number to seek help for any issues that they are experiencing at home (such as how to install apps, how to use an Apple app or how to connect to a home wireless network). Hours of operation for AppleCare Protection for Education phone support are 9am - 9pm Monday to Friday and 9am - 6pm Saturday.

    6. Use of the School Wireless Network and Internet Access The use of the School Wireless Network and all associated infrastructure is available for educational use of student iPads.

    The Internet is only to be accessed through the School Wireless Network while at school (i.e. no 3G or cellular network access from student iPads is permitted).

    The school wireless certificates are not to be removed or altered as this could affect the iPads ability to connect to the School Wireless Network.

    7. Loss, Theft and Damage If the device is stolen from school during school hours, then the school, in association with Catholic Schools Network Insurance will organise an insurance claim, provided that the student has met all their security obligations under this agreement. This claim will not include cover for loss or damage due to reasons other than theft.

    It will be the responsibility of the parent to insure for loss, theft and/or damage outside of school hours.

    If your childs iPad requires repair or replacement, please notify your childs teacher in writing to arrange a hot swap iPad to be supplied by the school. S t C a t h e r i n e s P r i m a r y S c h o o l ! 1 t o 1 P o l i c y & G u i d e l i n e s ! !

  • 8. Assessment and Homework Students are encouraged to use their iPad for continuing learning tasks, dependent upon requirements set by the teachers.

    9. Classroom iPad Use Student iPads are to be brought to school each day. The teachers will manage the use of the iPads in the classroom, at their sole discretion.

    No student is to take out or use an iPad at school at any time without the express permission of a member of the school teaching staff.

    ST.$CATHERINES$PRIMARY$SCHOOL$2$iPAD$HIRE$AGREEMENT$!The$following$is$a$hire$agreement$for$the$use$of$an$iPad$as$your$childs$personal$1$to$1$device$from$the$commencement$of$the$2015$school$year$at$St.$Catherines$Primary$School,$Wishart.$Under$this$agreement,$parents$or$guardians$agree$to$contribute$an$installment$of$$50$per$term,$commencing$in$January$2015,$for$hire$of$the$iPad.$$

    !1. Families!with!any!school!fees!outstanding!are!ineligible!for!this!hire!agreement.!

    2. Hire!payments!will!be!made!through!the!school!fees!system,!itemised!on!term!accounts.!Payments!must!be!up!to!date!

    for!continued!use!of!the!device.!

    3. If!at!any!point!the!iPad!is!no!longer!required,!parents!will!advise!the!school!in!writing.!

    4. The!iPad!is!owned!by!the!school!and!rented!to!the!student.!The!student!has!personal!use!of!the!iPad!while!he/she!is!

    enrolled!at!St.!Catherines!and!provided!that!hire!payments!and!school!fees!are!up!to!date.!!

    5. It!is!expected!that!the!guidelines!for!care!and!responsible!use!of!the!iPad!set!out!in!the!St.!Catherines!Parent!

    6. Under!this!hire!arrangement,!school!iPads!will!be!insured*!for!accidental!damage!while!in!use!for!assigned!school!

    tasks!or!appropriate!learning!activities.!Any!willful!damage,!damage!sustained!while!travelling!away!from!home!or!

    damage!sustained!at!any!time!during!school!holiday!periods!will!not!be!covered!under!the!insurance!agreement.!The!

    total!repair!cost!for!damage!sustained!at!these!times!must!be!met!by!the!family.!The!iPad!will!be!inspected!on!the!

    students!final!day!of!school!each!term!and!inspected!again!at!the!commencement!of!the!following!term.!

    7. At!the!conclusion!of!the!hire!period,!at!the!end!of!each!school!year,!or!at!such!time!as!the!student!is!no!longer!

    enrolled!at!St.!Catherines,!the!iPad!must!be!returned!to!the!school!promptly!and!in!good!working!condition!(ie.!no!

    dents,!scratches!on!the!casing!or!screen!or!damage!to!movable!buttons!etc).!It!is!the!students!responsibility!to!sign!

    out!of!personal!apps!or!accounts!and!to!ensure!that!any!personal!data!is!removed!from!the!device!upon!its!return.!We!

    recommend!that!important!data!be!saved!to!cloud!storage!services!such!as!BCE!student!SharePoint!sites,!iCloud,!

    Dropbox!or!Google!Drive.!!

    *"Hired"iPad"Insurance"Terms:"

    Insurance!is!compulsory!and!will!be!provided!by!the!school!for!a!nonKrefundable!fee!of!$50,!payable!(by!cash,!
