In Sight Singing Level Five we will continue to cover:
• Stepwise Motion and Leaps within the tonic triad (Do > Mi > Sol > Mi > Do)
• Quarter Notes, Half Notes, Dotted Half Notes, Whole Notes, Pairs of Eighth Notes, Dotted Quarter followed by 8ths
• 4/4, 3/4, and 2/4 time • C Major, F Major, and G Major, Bb Major, D Major • Quarter Rests, Half Rests, Whole Rests, Eighth Note Rests • Dynamics - Piano, Forte • Simple Repeat Signs
We will add: • Mezzo Piano, Mezzo Forte
Dynamics refer to the loudness or softness of the music. The composer uses certain words to tell us how loud or soft we should sing.
The word mezzo is Italian and it means “moderately”. When added to the dynamic piano or forte it changes the meaning accordingly.
Mezzo Forte - Moderately Loud
Mezzo Piano - Moderately Soft
Here are the dynamics we’ve learned so far from softest to loudest:
p mp mf fpiano mezzo piano mezzo forte forte
