THE CHIMES- Z I ON CONGREGAT I ONA L CH URCH -
OCTOBER EDITION 2018
PASTOR'S POINTIn the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in
the beginning. Through him all things were made; without him nothing was made that has been made. In
him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness
has not overcome it. John 1:1-3
As the harvest continues and we find ourselves in the midst of the fall season, take a
moment this month to reflect how you have been brought into the light. The above passage
from the opening of John?s gospel sets a very clear distinction between the light and the
dark. That analogy of Jesus or God?s ways as light is found throughout the Bible. We are to
live as children of light. We are to follow Jesus and do what He commands. So who has
shown you the light? And, as John testifies, ?the darkness has not overcome it.?
That statement from John is important to remember. The biggest trick in Satan?s tool belt is
to make you feel isolated and alone. Think about what happened to Job. In trying to
separate Job from God, Satan took everything from Job. He tried to make him isolated and
alone. And Satan almost succeeded. But it?s the same trick, over and over thought history.
And it?s the same reality: ?the darkness has not overcome it? (the light).
This month, celebrate the people who have shown the light of Christ. Remember those who
have taught you about Jesus. Celebrate the many saints that have gone home to God and
yet who lived lives which testify to the reality of what God has done through Jesus our
Christ. Remember and recall the light that shined through others.
And then make sure that same light is shining within yourself for others to see. In your
thoughts. In your words. At work. At home. When you go out with friends. When you are
alone or with with others. Always live in the light. Because the darkness will never overcome
it.
For God?s Glory,
Adam

DORCAS AID REPORTThe Dorcas Aid met at Silos for our lunch. This is the usual Thursday time of Fellowship and
anyone who likes good food should join the group. It is always great to have several guests
join us and Pastor Adam. Pastor Jordan was absent since he wasn?t feeling good. Hope he
will be able to join us next month.
We went back to the church for our meeting. Pastor Adam led our Bible study on: ?Trusting
God with All the Details?. Joshua 1:9 states: ?Have I not commanded you? Be strong and
courageous. Do not be terrified; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with
you wherever you go.? Have you ever given something over to God through prayer and then
taken it back? I am sure that all of us have done that at one time in our lives only to realize
that God takes care of us if we but trust him with everything.
Charlene had devotions telling about 3 kinds of pleasure. Lustful pleasure is lust of the
flesh; legitimate pleasure we should not become pre-occupied with our own activities;
lasting pleasure comes from the Spirit of God. Thanks, Charlene.
Eunice conducted the business meeting. Roll call was answered with a verse from John by 9
members. Pastor Adam excused himself because he had commitments. The secretary and
treasurers? reports were read. After the report was read Marilyn gladly gave all of the
treasurers books to Marlene Schnepel who is our new treasurer! Welcome, Marlene!
We discussed having the Christmas Guest Luncheon again and all agreed that we enjoyed it
and will have it this Year on December 13. Marlene and Charlene volunteered to be the
Hostess with Marilyn and Mardene volunteering to do the entertainment. Each one is to
bring a salad as usual. Please remember this date.
We sang ?Happy Birthday? to Virginia Schumacher for her 95th birthday on September 21.
Hope you have a great day! We closed with all repeating ?The Lord?s Prayer?.
You learn the value of WHO you are when you understand WHOSE you are!
Secretary,
Carolyn

J-FORCEAll area youth in Kindergarten through 5th grade are invited to attend J-Force, held
at Zion on the 4th Sunday of each month from 4:30pm-5:30pm. This year?s J-Force
theme is GUM (God Use Me). Yes, the giant gum ball machine in the church entryway
is part of that program. Each month, the kids have a challenge to complete. And as
they return and share about what they have done, the kids will be writing their
names on one of our gum balls and putting it in our machine. In this way, everyone
can see the work of God on display through our J-Force kids, as our machine will
keep filling up throughout the year.
As is now the standard lineup on the 4th Sunday of each month, we would invite all
J-Force students and families to share a community meal together (with the rest of
our church) from 5:30pm-6:30pm after J-Force. After dinner, we would then invite
everyone into the sanctuary for a high energy Treynor Unite Worship Service held
from 6:30pm-7:30pm. See you on the 28th!
