Distance Learning CAP

Increase the College’s online teaching presence so that 25% of courses offered exist in an online or hybrid modality.

This growth should take place over the next 3-5 years and include a comprehensive assessment of current resources, teaching practices, capacity, training needs, and other infrastructural components necessary to fully support accomplishment of the CAP.

ITC – 2009 Distance Education Survey Results

The number 1 challenge since 2004 is “support staff needed for training and technical assistance”

“We need one central faculty development center for supporting faculty in effective instructional design, use of Blackboard and other educational technologies, assessment of the quality of their online courses, help with improving online course quality and help with rapidly changing technologies. We also need more staff in the system distance education area.”

THIS IS AWESOME!- Professor Mike Light

Kudos to you and Starfish! The student below logged in and posted on September 10 and then didn't log in until he got the flag. The flag cleared on Sep 19…

I honestly didn't notice his pattern of logging in one day a week. I appreciate that the system prompted him without me having to set-up an elaborate rule. I think this can help retention in my online classes. – Professor Garry Brand

Thank You! Be excited about the work ahead, but realize also the

challenges in front of us as we work together to advance online learning at GRCC!

Questions:1. What do we need consider as we move forward in

increasing our online presence at GRCC?

2. What role could AGC serve in this DL CAP?

3. What other information, suggestions, comments, concerns can we bring to the DL CAP team for consideration?

"Nothing is as likely to change the face of higher education over the next decade as

the switch to more online learning." - College of 2020: Students, Chronicle of Research Services
