and welcome Life Members present: Allan Porteus, Frank
Parlevliet, Justin Meldrum, Gloria McBride, Norm Waldeck,
Mike Cook, Andrew Goss, Warren Vanalopulos and Brian
Carthew.
Shane then asked our guest Liza Harvey to address the
meeting as she had to attend another function. Liza thanked
Shane and commenced by saying that she was honoured to
be remaining in the position of Vice Patron. It has been a
busy year on the beach and it has been hard to maintain
membership in this economic climate. It was a terrific turn
out for Aussies. Liza thanked the club for everything done on
the beach throughout the season. The opposition will be
pushing the barrel for smart measures with the shark’s
scenario.
She wished everyone a great break and looks forward to
seeing everyone back on the beach next season

3.2 The President presented the Annual Report, asked the meeting if there were any questions to any
Directors. Shane commenced by saying that the club had had an outstanding year and for a club the size
that we are were punching well above our weight. Results like what we have had don’t happen by
accident. A membership increase of 14% and spent $45K on improving the facilities. Things happen by
many members doing their bit.
3.3 Financial Report – Norm spoke to the Financial report and firstly thanked Bron for her support of the
season and for all the work she does. He wished to thank all Directors for working well to budget. There
was still a strong fiscal control maintained through the year – everything was met.

Juniors received 20 new boards, Lifesaving updated a lot of their equipment, members facilities were
upgraded, there was still $ for $ craft purchased and the introduction of the Athletes Development Fund.
The Board also approved an upgrade to our IT Platform which is currently taking shape.
All though there is a $40,800 showing in the books this is only a paper loss and due to depreciation.
Norm gave a brief rundown of income and expenses in areas.
The club now owns the patrol vehicle and have put aside a $15k sinking fund to replace the vehicle the
when the time comes.
The club needs to find sustainable ways to provide income like raffles and street appeal as sponsorship
income is now becoming to achieve.
Neil Bowie wanted to congratulate Norm and the board because the club was in a fantastic financial
position
ITEM 4 Auditor’s Report
4.1 The auditor’s report, was included in the Annual Report, was noted by the Members.
As the Auditor was unable to attend the meeting, he asked Norm to inform the meeting that the Audit was
clean and quick, and he was very happy with the processes that the club has in place.
ITEM 5 Election of Office Bearers
Before we got to the elections Shane thanked the Board, Bron and Officer Bearers for all their hard work. Also, to Barb
and Matt for supporting him for the past 3 years in the role. He also thanked Norm, 3 years previously he had talked
Norm into standing for the board and his commitment to the position goes beyond what is required. In 10 years, he
has had various positions on the board.
5.1 All positions were declared vacant.
Shane then read the list of nominations received by the close of nominations
All valid nominations for office bearers
having no more than one candidate, all
were elected unopposed.

history. Dan advised that it was the Directors reports that are
required, officers can submit a report and it will be kept on
file. Rod also made mention that there was no mention of
the rescue that took place in 2017. He was informed that is
was acknowledged. Jackie also informed Rod that as the
9 | P a g e
Director of Marketing she sent all sponsors an Activity Report
and it has been acknowledged in there as well.
He also would like older members that don’t have access to
computers to be kept informed. That will be looked by the
board
10.2 Frank Parlevliet Asked if the reports can be attached to the official report that
is kept in the archives. To be looked at by the board
10.3 Reg Beaton Wished to convey his congratulations to the City of Stirling on
the redevelopment of Scarborough, a fantastic venue
10.4 Ashley Palmer The social committee needs to have some younger members
on it.
10.5 Allan Porteus The boards on the mezzanine floor and near the old tower
seem to be multiplying, there are 28 boards up there and that
doesn’t include the nipper boards. Something seriously
needs to be done about it
There being no further business the meeting closed at 7.16pm

Directorate Reports
President Success, is it simply a favourable or desired outcome, how well we do what we do or making a difference? Whatever your opinion may be, Trigg Island’s 65th year of service to the community of Western Australia has been a huge success. After yet another year of consecutive membership growth, the club’s membership has never looked better. Financially, the club has continued to follow a pathway of conservative spending whilst ensuring members have both the facilities and equipment they deserve. The clubs long term future has been secured with both the City of Stirling and Board agreeing to a new 16-year Sub-Lease. With the deadline approaching fast, the club ratified its new Constitution ensuring the views of the membership and requirements of the Associations Incorporations Act 2015 were met. Trigg Island’s sponsors and supporters continued commitment allows our members to provide a first-class lifesaving service for those who visit Trigg beach. Behind the scenes, the club’s management ensured members experience the best Trigg Island has to offer. The Festival of Food, a consistent food offering for all has been a huge success. In excess of 1200 meals have been served therefore creating a huge revival in the club’s social scene. The Trigg Island Sundowner was the envy of clubs up and down the coast. The new surf sport initiative gave athletes from all over WA the opportunity to compete in a new and exciting format. I’m sure we will see a bigger and brighter version next summer. Trigg Island’s volunteer lifesavers rescued 39 people whilst sharing 7,620 hours of their time with the community to ensure Trigg Beach remained safe during the warmer months. Our lifesavers provide an exceptional service, we thank you all for your efforts and commitment to the red and yellow. A first for both WA and Trigg Island has seen the introduction of Drone’s on patrol. The Drone program, supported by SLSWA and Westpac, has enhanced lifesaving patrols nationwide, giving clubs the most up to date means to assist patrolling the coastal environment. Whilst conducting weekend patrols at Trigg Beach, our Drone Patrol sighted a swimmer in difficulty. One radio message later, assistance was provided and the swimmer returned to shore. Traditional methods of lifesaving are enhanced greatly by the use of technology such as drones. In this instance our Drone patrol made a real difference, their dedication is great to see and ensures Trigg Island are leading the way here in WA. The future of the club, our junior members and families again contributed in all aspects of club life at Trigg. It takes a team of dedicated volunteers, our AGM’s, coaches and the Junior Committee to facilitate the development of our junior member’s evolution. Skills learnt in the early stages of the lifesaving journey last a life time. In addition, the physical benefits and promotion of a healthy lifestyle will be with these members throughout their life. The clubs surf sports program was again exceptional during the summer of 2019. After countless hours preparing, our members won the Junior, Senior and Masters State Championships as well as the State Pool Rescue and Endurance State Championships. The club’s consistency and success across so many disciplines are thanks to the entire Surf Sports team. Our coaches and athletes are world class and I’m sure the talk of the town after another successful campaign at Aussies 2019. After adding further gold to his already remarkable list of achievements, Life member, Michael Cook was inducted to the SLSA Masters Hall of Fame. Mike’s surf lifesaving story surpasses all in WA. Congratulations Mike, you have set the standard for every West Australian lifesaver. With so much talent and drive I’m sure the club’s athletes will continue to set goals and achieve their dreams. With the club’s surfboats punching in to the surf, scoring points at states, and our beach athletes scorching the sand lookout WA, Trigg Island is coming for more. To some, the day to day operation of the club may look seamless. In most cases this is true, thanks to the army of senior and life members. Their passion and willingness to support the club is greatly appreciated, I am sure
12 | P a g e
Trigg Island’s success over countless years stems from the thousands of hours they have all given over many decades. In addition, Club Administrator, Bronwyn Meldrum has again given more than most. Her knowledge, and professionalism ensures all aspects of the club are managed to the highest level. The assistance she provides the Board and all club officers is truly remarkable, making an invaluable difference at Trigg Island. At the conclusion of every season we see a change within the management of the club. With Lifesaving being the club’s number one priority, we must thank Carl Stoffers for all his efforts during his time as the Director of Life Saving and Education. Carl has shaped every aspect of his portfolio for the benefit of the club and members, thank you Carl. To every member that gave up their time to assist or took on a role as a club officer, the Board of Directors thank you. Your efforts make a difference to the membership and wider community. The financial sustainability of the club benefits every time we stand up to look after our club, our friends and our lifesavers. No matter how great the success of previous years, there is always room for growth and advancement. I’m sure the impending summer will be extremely rewarding and full of successful moments both on the sand and in the surf. Daniel Humble

Club Captain I would firstly like to thank our entire volunteer base across all areas of the club. We would not be the club we
are today without the continued support and positive passion of our members who provide countless hrs
protecting the local community on the beach, providing education, sporting pathways and a great social
atmosphere.
Our lifesaving and education team have worked to improve the delivery of training and skills with the
implementation of interactive manikins and the latest in defibrillator application which has helped our
members with vital resuscitation timing and feedback. Trigg SLSC is embracing technology in this area and with
the knowledge of our trainers and assessors we will continue to be at the fore front of advancements in first
responder techniques.
Surf sports continues to grow bigger and stronger and with that comes challenges, all of which are dealt with
by our fantastic group of managers, coaches and mentors. We have again had great success this season in
giving our athletes a structure in which they can thrive and compete to the best of their ability. This is a credit
to all those involved from nippers to masters and was capped off by our club winning all three state title
championships “The triple crown”. A great achievement.
The youth area of the club has again grown under the guidance of Jenny and Peter Taylor who have been
instrumental in offering a program that caters for everyone. There are so many things you can do in Surf
lifesaving and this is where the youth program identifies and introduces the different pathways available to
our upcoming nippers, parents and new members.
As we continue to deliver our members and community an environment for growth and learning it is always
good to acknowledge the help of our volunteers which affords us the flexibility to plan and structure things for
the future. So, thanks again to all that have made this season a success.
Support and respect of each other is what defines us as a progressive club.
Peter Savage

Director of Finance & Administration Finance
We have finalised the 2018/2019 season and it was a successful year of growth for the club financially with
increases in revenue and profitability allowing a greater level of expenditure due to the continued strong
financial governance. The Festival of Food, increasing membership as well donations from the Supporters Club
and sponsorships have contributed to the increase in revenue . Supporting a growing and existing
membership base cannot be achieved without an extremely strong balance sheet, one that has been curated
and managed for the previous seasons by the incumbent board giving the new board the opportunity to
facilitate ‘futureproofing’ ideas to sustain prospective growth.
We will continue to work with our financial services partner Westpac in the management of our funds to gain
maximum benefit for our members. This season the board approved the placement of some of our funds on a
fixed term deposit providing an income stream for the club moving forward. The strategy for investing the
club’s money is based on zero risk and at call, so we have taken this into account with the term and amount
invested. We have also been refining a payment gateway solution with Westpac and we will be close to
launching this to our membership during the 2020 season.
Revenues
TOTAL REVENUE - $611,467 vs $563,130 (FY18) increase 8.6%
Where does the money come from?
• Revenue from Merchandise increased 16.1% or $7,492,
• Bar sales increased 9.2% of $6,383
• Food Service via the Festival of Food increased 218% or $20,611. The Food Service, Venue Hire and Merchandise sales contributed $226,069 or 37% of total revenue. None of
our events, food sales or merchandise sales happen without the support teams of amazing volunteers
including Anthony O’Shea – bar manager, Ash Palmer – House manager, Marie Waldeck – Merch Manager and
Chrisso Savage – our kiosk king.
There are numerous volunteers who support this team and total commercial revenue growth of 17% or
$32,834 would not be possible without this wonderful team.
• Membership revenue also increased by 3.4% or $5,113. This is testament to the membership options
the Trigg Island SLSC offer. Non-commercial income dropped by (17.2%) or -$16,235. This was in part
to the cessation of the patrol vehicle subsidy provided by the COS and a reduction in Sponsorships.
• Surf Sports overall had an increase in revenue of 30% or $17,367, however this was due to Aussies
Accommodation and the Broome Carnival so there’s direct expenditure in line with the revenue
received. In Surf Sports general which includes hosting income, prize money, equipment sales and the
Avenell Donation we had and increase by 17.6% or $3,317. The inaugural Trigg Island Sundowner
Carnival was launched, showcasing a new afternoon format. The Surf Sports team lead the club with
this endeavour, and we have been able to secure this event for the ongoing future as we refine the
offer and widen the appeal.
• Lifesaving income had a massive increase with our club providing additional services and training in the
community. It’s a credit to our Lifesaving Dept and the team of leaders mentoring new teachers in our
club. This will be an opportunity for continued growth and a positive income stream as we outline
further strategies to capture this untouched market.
Our thanks also to SLSWA who provide a financial contribution to the club as a result of their fundraising
initiatives, carnival hosting and promotional support for Surf Sports initiatives. Also, the City of Stirling
continue to provide our annual funding grant for which the club is very grateful for.
15 | P a g e
TOTAL EXPENDITURE – $430,107 vs 501,411 (FY18) down 14.2%
Where is the money spent?
• Venue R & M increased by $6,249 as we needed to replace the condensing unit in the bar cool room,
we also had in increase in Club Awards on the back of our best Australian Titles.
• Fundraising Expenditure doubled due to the uptake of Trigg Island SLSC numberplates although the
income for these covers the increase.
• We spent more on merchandise however whilst our stock ending position is higher than last year, we
did increase our turnover.
• We also updated the rowers in the gym and on sold the incumbent machines.
• We designed and built a new ski trailer which was subsidised by the Stronger Communities Programme
grant and the Lions Club of North Beach.
• Sponsorship Expenditure had an increase due to the purchase of new oars for the female boat crew.
This was directly funded by a donation from BN Investments.
• We grew our ski and board fleet in both juniors and seniors. This was in part to the club approval of $
for $ skis x 2 and boards x 4, however we did move on double skis and redundant boards which
contributed revenue to the club.
• Administration costs increased as we added functionality to our point of sale system for clear
inventory management in the bar and merch shop. Bronwyn Meldrum also took up the opportunity for
Office 365 training across the full suite of programs offered. Whilst rubbish removal increased, we saw
a massive decrease in cleaning, due to the consolidation of waste services of bin and oil collection.
• Costs in relation to the Aussies increased as the team travelled to the Gold Coast, however once again
this was income in and out. As a club we must congratulate Justin Meldrum and Pete Savage who gave
up a week of their time to provide IRB water safety. They were given 38hrs of time on the water and
managed the conditions without hesitation. Thankyou.
• Education costs increased due to further investments in Little Annie’s and the team of Educational
Specialists. Our continued investment in the Education department will open up new areas of
community service and provide a great income stream, as outlined above.

Membership Club membership for the 2018/19 season saw an increase overall of 7% which is a positive for the club
compared to other clubs along the coast. Membership 2018/19 was at 1,236 compared with 1,150 for
2017/18. The greatest increase has been in relation to Junior, Youth and Associate/Parent members up 13%.

Administration Special thanks to Bronwyn Meldrum who runs the club like her own. The partnership we have formed, whilst
in this year of learning, will hold the club in good stead for years to come. Bronwyn will continue to have the
opportunities to learn and support the board with new operational skills whilst also supporting EVERY member
of our club. A unique lady with unique skills. Thankyou.
Thank you to the team Well done to the Board of Directors for their careful consideration of expenditure throughout the year to keep
within the tight budget that had been set. We have done really well to keep costs to a minimum whilst
consistent upgrades of equipment through Grants, Sponsorships and funding purchases out of general income
means the club is generally in good shape with regards to standard of equipment. This has helped minimise
repair costs and together with our members performing many repairs and maintenance tasks themselves has
kept costs down. Thanks to all the members and local businesses providing in kind donations of goods and
services throughout the year. These dollars saved are as good as the dollars made.
In closing I would like to thank my predecessor Norm Waldeck and my fellow Directors for their assistance and
support during the year. Thank you also to the Jane Scott and Tanya Andrews from Barnett’s Bookkeeping for
their continued expertise and guidance.
As all Directors have articulated during the year, we are open for business and all ideas are welcomed, so get
involved and we’ll see you on the beach.
When’s the last time you did something for the first time?

Director of Lifesaving & Education
Lifesaving Another quiet season saw rescues on our beach fall to just 39. There is a strong case for attributing this decline
to the increased experience of the Patrol teams, as well as milder conditions at Trigg. SLSA’s Rip awareness
campaign, along with high profile incidents on the East coast may also have influenced many to play it safe,
and swim between the flags.
This season saw the introduction of the TISLSC Drone patrol. This addition to Triggs’ life saving arsenal was
made possible by the dedication of as small group of dedicated innovators who are helping to shape the
format of drone operations and procedures not only for TISLSC, but for Western Australia.
Trigg now has 5 qualified pilots, with plans to introduce another 5 next season. From Saturday 26 January 2019
to Sunday 31 March 2019, 17 drone rostered patrols were undertaken delivering 14.3 airborne surveillance
hours covering 123.5kms in distance. In addition, some 20.2 hours covering 207kms distance were logged in
training and assessment. In total over 100 volunteer person hours can be attributable to the drone program
this season. A terrific start.
The Drone provides excellent and high definition visual perspective of beach conditions. It clearly identifies
rips, banks, troughs, numbers of swimmers and craft in the water for the entire beach area, and occasional
marine life – salmon balls, stingrays, & seals. On one occasion the drone provided direct assistance to the
beach inspector in identifying a rip and struggling swimmer who was rescued on a board by the beach
inspector.
Our capabilities are also expanding into Jet Skis. This is a part of SLSWA’s effort to increase its Search and
Rescue resources. Starting with a SLSWA demonstration at the end of the Juniors season, training will
commence in earnest in the middle of Winter. The first Juniors day of the 2019/2020 season should see Jet Skis
providing Water Safety support on Sundays.

2018/2019 honoured Life members with the introduction of the new Motteram patrol, and renaming the
Carnival patrol for “Boots” Campbell.
Depth of experience on patrols, is at a 5-year high, and this allowed for some selfless members to move away
for their “home” patrols and form another for the good of all. The quality of our patrolling teams is due to the
diligence of our Trainers, driven by the expectations of our Assessors. No small part of the cohesion of the
teams is due to the experience of a dedicated group of Patrol Captains and their core teams.
I would also like to credit Jenny Taylor for improving both the take up rate of patrolling duties for our Juniors,
and the retention of SRCs. Jenny’s efforts have produced a significant drop in the churn of our newer patrolling
members, building on Bryan Gibbs’ (and others) excellent work in producing top quality SRCs, ready to patrol.

There were 113 Patrols in the 2018/2019 season, including a City of Stirling imposed compulsory attendance
patrol on Christmas Day. This is down from the 118 of the previous year, partially causing the decrease in total
hours. Overall patrol attendance has been good, and pleasingly Defaults have nudged down to 15 percent of
total hours.
Thank you to those who made themselves available to do substitute patrols. This generosity is crucial to
keeping patrols staffed with the correct skills. I would also like to thank the Carnival patrol for their One Club,
One Team attitude, helping Trigg to lead both in competition and Life Saving.
Education This season we upgraded our online booking system for the annual proficiency requirements. Although there were some initial teething problems Gabby Jolliffe dealt with these and with her trusty band of Trainers and Assessors completed the following requalification stats:
2018/2019 Proficiencies
ARTC (AID) 70
Bronze Medallion 269
Resuscitation [AID] 8
IRBC 80
IRBD 47
Spinal 30
SRC 101
Total 605
It is a huge effort to complete the Wet and Dry requalification requirements and the Education teams appreciate everyone’s professional and patient approach on the many requalification days.
The Education team also benefitted from the delivery of 11 QCPR Little Annies this season. Paired with donated tablets, the trainers are now able to view real time statistics of candidates’ CPR performance. This expedites and quantifies abilities, while adding another competitive and fun component to Education.
Sincere thanks to my great team who work tirelessly in this area. We have had some new trainers come on board and hope to continue to increase our numbers next season. All the Education department’s positions were filled this season which is a real positive and I hope this can continue.

Youth The youth membership has continued to flourish with fantastic input from members across all areas of the club. Thanks, must initially go to two amazing sponsors of youth being; the Avenall family who for the past seven years have supported youth members with the provision of a new competitive senior board each season, and also Les Lyndsay with a new board for under 14s from Peard Real Estate. At this stage all seven boards are utilised through two-year contracts or for training.
Youth members have been strongly supported by the Trigg board to provide for four youth members, Rhys Bawden, Jonah Okines, Lucas Walker and Femke Negus, to attend the annual TOAD camp at Rottnest. Tahlia Gray was also supported to attend the Rise Up camp to develop leadership skills. These youth members have given back to the club and association through supporting nippers and in some cases going onto be youth officials. Surf Lifesaving WA, this season, have introduced a new youth leadership program of which 25 Trigg youth members have registered. The aim of this state-initiated program is to develop a variety of pathways to promote a motivation for a greater engagement across the four pillars of surf lifesaving. 13 Trigg youth members have completed their bronze level, upon which they were awarded a certificate and presented with a towel embroidered with Trigg SLSC and their name. Congratulations to these bronze award members: Annabelle McMahon, Alessandra Gilmore, Lily Boisvert, Danielle Bordin, Amalie Haar-Bellekom, Jonah Okines, Lucas Walker, Rhys Bawden, Samantha Lourey, Georgia Moar, Jackson Ballardin, Sophie Lawson and Dharma Beazley. Special thanks go to the Education team in ensuring youth members had opportunities to gain awards and requalify existing awards. The team of Bryan Gibbs, Kevin Edwards and Peter Taylor ensured our new SRC members were trained to pass this award. The recent school holidays saw 21 new members gain their SRC with support from Dave Somers, Peter Tindall and Mike Cook, as well.
The early part of the season saw a requalification day with youth members being provided a BBQ and then a trip to Latitude to test their skills on high ropes, balancing and getting to integrate with 14s to 17s.

November brought the annual Volleyball and pizza night at North Beach. While in December all club members were encouraged to make teams for The Around The Island Challenge. Great to see families combined to make teams. It was interesting to see the teamwork especially on the problem-solving activities. Sunday activities were offered each week with the exception of senior carnival days and special thanks to Don Greenhill (Chippy) for his invaluable coaching and support for beach activities, together with assistance from Julie Foley. Thanks also to Scott Bawden and Peter Foley for their regular timekeeping and recording of youth swims. Great support also from Mark Mulvay with running and water safety. Youth members enthusiastically represented Trigg at club carnivals, senior states and ten youth members attended Aussies acquitting themselves with great teamwork and pride and having a great time. Parental support has been absolutely brilliant with all members and parents pulling together for a very successful season. Extra special thanks to Chris Davies for his excellent management of the boys at Aussies, coaching beginner boards, as well as his support in teaching members how to repair boards.
The success of Trigg youth is the huge input from a variety of coaches from beginners, development through to intermediate and open across all disciplines. With the winter upon us we look forward to new groups of youth members braving the winter ocean under the guidance of Dave Motteram and the existing youth transitioning to skis on the river with the team working with Rowan Caren and ski coaches. We are looking forward to new families moving into the youth area and anticipate another wonderful season where skills are developed, lifetime friendships made and these new youth members realise the value of the input from volunteers and develop a passion for supporting Trigg in all endeavors for the future. Go Trigg – One club one team! Jenny Taylor

Director of Surf Sports Season 2018/2019 was packed full of excitement and was another successful season for Trigg Island. With new
opportunities for our surf sports competitors, the return to Broadbeach for Aussies and the inaugural Trigg
Island Sundowner were highlights for the season.
This season our Surf Sports team, led by Ruby Warne and Josh Windsor under the watchful eyes of coaches
Matt Bowbridge, Dave Mottram, Fergus Morgan, Rick Duncan, Darren Rogers and Jenny Taylor worked
continuously throughout the year to provide our competitors every opportunity they required to achieve their
surf sport goals.
As we know, surf lifesaving is now a year-round sport and over the course of the winter, we had many athletes
across all age groups participate in a variety of events from IRB Racing, Pool Rescue and the Endurance State
Championships. These events show cased the high quality of sportsmanship and athletic ability of every
competitor from Trigg Island.
At the end of the winter we saw 8 Trigg Island athletes selected in the SLSWA Pool Rescue State Team. Jake
Smith, Josh Windsor Lachlan Meldrum, Callan Smith, Chalise Pratt, Olivia Schou, Jakson Egan and Will Savage,
as well as Assistant Team Manager Bronwyn Meldrum
represented both Trigg Island and the state at the highest
level. Our athletes performed incredibly well winning 4
Gold, 7 Silver and 6 Bronze medals.
As the season ramped up, the club once again
participated in Surf League. This event allows our
competitors the ability to race as a team for Trigg Island
over a series of events held at North Cottesloe,
Scarborough and Sorrento beaches. With changes to this
seasons format, included a Youth Camron Relay and Iron
events, our youth members were given the opportunity
to step up to compete alongside our senior competitors. This saw our ladies boat crew support our teams,
gaining vital points for the club. Unfortunately, this year Trigg Island weren’t able to walk away with the
winner’s trophy. However, we did have four athletes in Daniel Humble, Ben Jones, Kelly Mulvay and Nikita
Fredonnet selected in the SLSWA Elite Team. The club walked away with $7000 in prize money for their efforts
throughout the Surf League series.
The Western Suns State Team this year travelled to Sydney alongside the Youth Development Team. An
outstanding number of Trigg Island athletes were selected in both teams with Daniel Humble (Captain), Devon
Caren, Will Savage, Patrick Eley, Max Hunter, Ben Waterman, Kia Marchetto, Harper Davies, Liam Foley, Ruby
Warne, Macarah Mallis, Nikita Fredonnet, Chalise Pratt, Aysha Ferguson, Mikaela Innocent & Ceris Graham
(Manager) representing the state. Not only did these athletes race for the state they represented Trigg Island
at the Manly and Freshwater Australia Day Carnivals. We
saw many outstanding performances over the 3 days of
competition, with many athletes making finals. A
highlight at Freshwater was the 2nd place finish for both
the female and male Taplin Relay teams. Our athletes
showed the eastern state clubs that Trigg Island are a
force to be reckoned with.

February saw the inaugural Trigg Island Sundowner attract Western Australia’s top surf athletes. The
condensed format saw a variety of different events contested concluding with a Dash for Cash and Run Swim
Run events as the sunset over Trigg Beach. We would like to thank all of the sponsors that made this event so
successful and look forward to making next seasons event bigger and better.
As the kids all went back to school the business end of the season rolled round quicker than excepted. Our Masters athletes lead the way, kicking off the State Championships with many new faces competing for Trigg Island. At the end of the day our Master’s finished on top and brought home the flag for Trigg Island. Weeks later our youth and senior competitors took to the sands of Scarborough Beach for the annual State Championships. Although the weather was bleak on Saturday this didn’t dampen our spirits, across all arenas Trigg Island showed that they we undoubtedly the best in on the beach winning many of the team events. Sunday saw the sun shining as well as our Trigg Island athletes. The depth of our competitors saw multiple gold medallist across the age groups and arenas. However, the best was yet to come. As the arenas folded into one, Trigg Island made history winning the last 6 events of the day, consisting of the U/15 Iron Man, U/15 Iron Women, Open Iron Man, Open Iron Woman, Open Male Taplin and Open Female Taplin races. Once again Trigg Island took home the flag, winning the State Championships by over 500 points. This was a great effort across all disciplines. Our juniors were the last to take to the beach. With the swell up and the stakes high for Trigg Island to win a clean sweep in all 3 State Championship events. It came down to the last few events and the Juniors hung on to win by 22 points, a great fighting effort. Aussies was finally upon us with the container once again delivered, packed and off to the Gold Coast the
excitement grew along with the predicted swell. For many of our youth kids this was their first Aussies. They
competed well at North Burleigh in some challenging conditions with some outstanding results.
After a busy two days, Monday saw the masters back at Broadbeach. The sun was out and the swell forgiving.
Over these two days we saw Mike Cook inducted into the Surf Life Saving Australia Masters Hall of fame and
Dan Humble take out the 35-39 ski race.
Wednesday arrived and so did the swell! The open men toughed it out in testing conditions over the week at
Broadbeach showing that you did not have to be the best to get through to the next round you just had to
have luck on your side. By the Thursday afternoon the Ladies and U/17 arenas were off to Kirra. With the surf
smaller Trigg Island excelled in some tough days of racing cramming a 4-day program into 2. The highlights on
Kirra beach were watching the U/17 Men paddle themselves into a bronze medal in the board relay and the
Open Female Double Ski taking silver. Sunday saw a return to Broadbeach for a big day of finals. The surf was
still big and for a lot the nerves were starting to show. We had may athletes competing through finals day in
the following events U/17 male swim, U/17 male iron man, U/17 female board, open female swim, open male
swim, open female ski and both the U/19 and open female taplin relays. All athletes raced extremely well in
the testing conditions that Broadbeach threw up and should be commended on the sprit and sportsmanship
that they raced with.
This brought a close to another successful season at Trigg Island. We thank all our coaches, supporters and
sponsors for helping make it an enjoyable season and we look forward to what Broadbeach and the 2019/2020
season has an offer for all at Trigg Island.

Director of Marketing & Promotions Have you ever heard of an old saying, “No woman or man is an island”? If not, then let this be the first. It’s true because when we became successful, we usually achieve that because someone has helped us.
A thank-you speech is a toast to express how truly and sincerely grateful we are to all the people and businesses who have helped the mighty Trigg Island along the way. It is also an inclusive opportunity, inviting the whole Trigg community to rejoice in our partners generosity.
Thanks to Motteram, Bowie and Ham. There is nothing sexy about taxation, accounting and business advisory, however relationships is the key to any businesses success, it can be complicated, so when you need clear and concise advice, that you can understand, friendly, yes accountants do have personality and feelings then the team that supports us, most definitely will support you. Thanks Dave, Matt and the team.
Thanks, Give IT. I won’t say, for all your IT needs, give Matt a call! Or if you have computer issues reach out to Give IT! What we will say is Give IT has provided a solution, yeah kind of tech talk, that has enabled a boatie, a ski paddler, an IRB racer, a Pool Rescue matriarch, a female leader, a check shirt wearer and a Peter Pan who dresses too young for his age the ability to communicate across a myriad of platforms seamlessly. IT simplified for the simpletons.
Thanks, Denmac. To Rob and the team, thanks. Your team of unique creatives reshaping precincts, requires a dedicated and passionate team much like surf sports. From Karratha to Jindalee your DNA stretches the state, and your DNA is entrenched as a Trigg Island partner. Like lifesaving, your mantra of “NO MATTER WHAT IT TAKES DENMAC WILL DELIVER” shouts teamwork and communicating together, integrity and transparency. The newly created Youth Precinct, well the basketball court area in front of the boat shed has been transformed, and even the gypsies come and try their hand, non-members shooting hoops in the Trigg Island SLSC services area, who would’ve thought? We are truly grateful for the commitment you provide our proud club.
Thanks Nu Look Homes. To Jo Edwards and the team thanks. Reputation, Quality of offering, Service and Care, sound familiar? Complete planning to construction to turnkey, Nulook boutique builder and renovator showcases the highest quality of work and attention to detail in every aspect of building. The Green Smart Award winner at last year’s HIA Awards, a sustainable home building market leader who is passionate about building environmentally friendly new homes and renovations.
Thanks, Peard Real Estate. To Toni, thank you for keeping Les energized. To Les, a rag trader who become a market leading bricks and mortar change agent, your energy and commitment to our club is without peer. The late-night security call outs, the real-life rescue member training, quite simply without Les, there is no Peard support. There’s always a deal to be done. We get to see the sign, the Peard brand and Les’ photo, or of late, many signs many photos representing the futures of the hopeful home sellers, only to have the confusing, UNDER OFFER sticker placed on the newly minted sign as another, once hopeful home seller, is rejoicing in the proceeds of the deal.
Thanks Perth Signcraft and Graphics. To Russell and your team, thanks. like the Trigg Island family, Perth Signcraft and Graphics are innovative and renowned for delivering high quality and original graphics. Whatever our signage requirements have been, Russel and the team have always been accommodating, precise and personalised. A customer base that stretches to the richest ASX companies to personalised one-off jobs they have creative solutions for signage across WA.
Thanks, North Beach Lions for your ongoing donations. If it’s a tent we need, you are there, if its equipment we need, you are there. We are so proud to have you as a partner, a generous provider of much needed funds to facilitate Trigg Island membership services. Your latest donation, along with the Stronger Communities grant, provide Trigg Island with the latest in multiuse trailers. You provide a community hub inviting creative, enthusiastic and passionate people who are involved in community service and a membership always willing to be involved with wide ranging projects that make a difference to their community. To Jeanette Simpson and the team thank you.

Thanks, Rotary Club of Karrinyup. Our partnership stretches over 37 years and your donations for rescue vehicles, oxy viva units and the clearly identified bright yellow rescue boards amongst many other funded equipment showcases a deep understanding and commitment of our community needs. You provide a pathway for our young members to participate in youth exchange and leadership campaigns at many levels. We rejoice, in the knowledge you share and the community belonging you deliver.
Thanks Trigg Art Club, our oldest and most generous donations partner. For 40 years you have supported Trigg Island SLSC. You provide a collective space that enables Perth artists to unveil their creativity. An exhibition that brings visitors from afar to purchase original and affordable art with ALL proceeds going to this surf club. As you celebrate your 50th Anniversary and once again you will showcase artists for all to see, so our deepest thanks Trigg Art Club.
Thanks Brown-Neaves Investments. To Gary, Dianne, Brad and your team, thanks. You are an extension the Trigg Island community, and quietly go about supporting many local organisations. Your generous donation, to our U19 Female Boat crew, enabled the entire crew to purchase a much-needed set of oars. The ladies crew didn’t miss a beat during summer and progressed up the ladder of success. This year they’ll have a fantastic base of fitness and quality racing equipment to sustain momentum and achieve their desired results.
I’ll leave this with you…..every day give your all! Love your all and don’t let anybody ever stop you!!! The human spirit is strong and there is always more of you to give because that is what’s going to fill you up and like our proud supporters without giving there is no community.

Director of Junior Activities We it’s been another outstanding year for the Nippers at Trigg this season. Another new age group of U/6’s
the Nemo’s, to taking home and defending our State Championship. Our numbers grew this season to over 450
members which shows what a great club we are.
Along with a massive number of kids it takes an army to manage them. And I have had the pleasure of working
with the best army around!! Our team over volunteers who put in so much time and effort to ensure the kids
get the best of everything. So, from me a huge thank you to you all!!!
From our amazing Age Group Managers who put in countless hours of their own time to run our kids activities
each and every Sunday morning, Our SRC team lead by Bryan Gibbs who this year has put through more than
50 SRC parent and a heap of pour U/13 Minties awards to ensure our kids are in the best of water safety
hands, To Kevin Edwards who runs our Orange army or water safety volunteers, our coaches lead by Lara
Taylor, our canteen volunteers under the control of “Mr Chips” Chris Savage, Peter Taylor who manages all our
gear, our band of work crew that help set up carnivals pack them away and take gear here and there, our
youth team who support us every Sunday morning assisting with water safety and some coaching along the
way and Bron in our office who is a rock of knowledge and admin support.
This year saw the purchase of six new hard boards for the club, which were much needed. We also received an
additional twelve soft boards donated through the AGL program by SLSWA. We refreshed our Orange Army’s
water safety rash vests. These were the envy of the coast. How good was it looking at our beach on a Sunday
morning to see a sea of orange!!!
This season saw our little nippers competing again. They had a rough start to the season at Swanbourne with
wild conditions, however come states time they were on fire at Sorrento. Our Bluebottle U/8 girls took 3 gold
medals in their first year of competition which was an awesome effort.
Coming to our Nipper competitions we have had an excellent year. There have been fantastic individual and
team performances at each round of the SunSmart Nipper series. Trigg once again held the qualifier carnival
and we didn’t disappoint from a surf perspective. There was some very trying and testing conditions to deal
with! The U/13 arena had big surf to the U/10 arena having to deal with flash rips. Once again, our kids
showed what true Trigg spirit is, no one gave up no one complained and most of all everyone gave 110% effort
in every race.
Our two parent awards this year were so hard to decide upon as we have what feels like a million people that
could have received them. Our parent helper award was given to Bart Kok. Bart is always the first to put his
hand up to offer assistance and most of the time just gets on and does what needs to be done without a call
out. Our Water Safety award went to Laura Wheeler. Every time I have been at the beach this year Laura has
been in an orange water safety vest with a tube under her arm or a board in hand. Again, never has to be
asked to jump in the water as she’s normally already in there waiting for the kids. Two very deserving winners.
Our U/13 Minties leave us this coming season as they head for the youth area of the club with Jenny Taylor.
This group have been a pleasure to be around all year. They have helped in younger age groups throughout the
season and been the group for the rest of our nipper to look up to all year. Our Captains and Vice Captains
from our Minties have been amazing! Jules Fredonnet and Zara Kok as Captains, and this year we had to have
four vice captains as it was too close to separate them. Renan Pascucci, Jed Hewitt, Ella Canton and Madeline
Gilmore. This team brought some new initiatives with them this season with one being our daily surf report. I
have no doubt the future of the club is in safe hands with a leadership group like this and the entire Minties
team moving forward.
29 | P a g e
So, to next season…. a new group of Minties to meet, new captains and vices to appoint, more lifesaving skills
to be learned and a state championship to defend. We have already started planning our path, and we won’t
give up till we get there. We are only as good as the volunteers behind us and we have a fantastic group of
them but can always take more.
Till next season have a great winter
Kevin Duguid

(c) Revenue and other income
6
Revenue is recognised when the amount of the revenue can be measured reliably, it is probable that economic benefits associated with the transaction will flow to the Association and specific criteria relating to the type of revenue as noted below, has been satisfied.
Revenue is measured at the fair value of the consideration received or receivable and is presented net of returns, discounts and rebates.
All revenue is stated net of the amount of goods and services tax (GST).
Sale of goods
Revenue is recognised on transfer of goods to the customer as this is deemed to be the point in time when risks and rewards are transferred and there is no longer any ownership or effective control over the goods.
Grant revenue
Grant revenue is recognised in the statement of profit or loss and other comprehensive income when the entity obtains control of the grant, it is probable that the economic benefits gained from the grant will flow to the entity and the amount of the grant can be measured reliably.
When grant revenue is received whereby the entity incurs an obligation to deliver economic value directly back to the contributor, this is considered a reciprocal transaction and the grant revenue is recognised in the statement of financial position as a liability until the service has been delivered to the contributor, otherwise the grant is recognised as income on receipt.
Trigg Island Surf Life Saving Club Inc receives non-reciprocal contributions of assets from the government and other parties for zero or a nominal value. These assets are recognised at fair value on the date of acquisition in the statement of financial position, with a corresponding amount of income recognised in the statement of profit or loss and other comprehensive income.
Donations
Donations and bequests are recognised as revenue when received.
Interest revenue
Interest is recognised using the effective interest method.
Rendering of services
Revenue in relation to rendering of services is recognised depending on whether the outcome of the services can be estimated reliably. If the outcome can be estimated reliably then the stage of completion of the services is used to determine the appropriate level of revenue to be recognised in the period.
If the outcome cannot be reliably estimated then revenue is recognised to the extent of expenses recognised that are recoverable.

Other income
Other income is recognised on an accruals basis when the Association is entitled to it.
(d) Borrowing costs

All other borrowing costs are recognised as an expense in the period in which they are incurred.
(e) Goods and services tax (GST)
Revenue, expenses and assets are recognised net of the amount of goods and services tax (GST), except where the amount of GST incurred is not recoverable from the Australian Taxation Office (ATO).

(g) Property, plant and equipment

Where the cost model is used, the asset is carried at its cost less any accumulated depreciation and any impairment losses. Costs include purchase price, other directly attributable costs and the initial estimate of the costs of dismantling and restoring the asset, where applicable.
Assets measured using the revaluation model are carried at fair value at the revaluation date less any subsequent accumulated depreciation and impairment losses. Revaluations are performed whenever there is a material movement in the value of an asset under the revaluation model.
Plant and equipment
Plant and equipment are measured using the revaluation model.
Depreciation
Property, plant and equipment, excluding freehold land, is depreciated on a straight-line basis over the assets useful life to the Association, commencing when the asset is ready for use.
Leased assets and leasehold improvements are amortised over the shorter of either the unexpired period of the lease or their estimated useful life.
The depreciation rates used for each class of depreciable asset are shown below:
Fixed asset class Depreciation rate
Furniture, Fixtures and Fittings 5% - 20%
Competition Equipment 10%-20%
Leasehold improvements 5% - 20%
At the end of each annual reporting period, the depreciation method, useful life and residual value of each asset is reviewed. Any revisions are accounted for prospectively as a change in estimate.
(h) Financial instruments
Financial instruments are recognised initially using trade date accounting, i.e. on the date that the Association becomes party to the contractual provisions of the instrument.
On initial recognition, all financial instruments are measured at fair value plus transaction costs (except for instruments measured at fair value through profit or loss where transaction costs are expensed as incurred).
Financial Assets
Financial assets are divided into the following categories which are described in detail below:
• loans and receivables;

2 Summary of Significant Accounting Policies
(h) Financial instruments
9
Financial assets are assigned to the different categories on initial recognition, depending on the characteristics of the instrument and its purpose. A financial instrument’s category is relevant to the way it is measured and whether any resulting income and expenses are recognised in profit or loss or in other comprehensive income.
All income and expenses relating to financial assets are recognised in the statement of profit or loss and other comprehensive income in the ‘finance income’ or ‘finance costs’ line item respectively.
Loans and receivables
Loans and receivables are non-derivative financial assets with fixed or determinable payments that are not quoted in an active market. They arise principally through the provision of goods and services to customers but also incorporate other types of contractual monetary assets.
After initial recognition these are measured at amortised cost using the effective interest method, less provision for impairment. Any change in their value is recognised in profit or loss.
The Association’s trade and other receivables fall into this category of financial instruments.
Significant receivables are considered for impairment on an individual asset basis when they are past due at the reporting date or when objective evidence is received that a specific counterparty will default.
The amount of the impairment is the difference between the net carrying amount and the present value of the future expected cash flows associated with the impaired receivable.
In some circumstances, the Association renegotiates repayment terms with customers which may lead to changes in the timing of the payments, the Association does not necessarily consider the balance to be impaired, however assessment is made on a case-by-case basis.
Any gain or loss arising from derivative financial instruments is based on changes in fair value, which is determined by direct reference to active market transactions or using a valuation technique where no active market exists.
Financial liabilities
Financial liabilities are classified as either financial liabilities ‘at fair value through profit or loss’ or other financial liabilities depending on the purpose for which the liability was acquired. Although the Association uses derivative financial instruments in economic hedges of currency and interest rate risk, it does not hedge account for these transactions.
The Association‘s financial liabilities include borrowings, trade and other payables (including finance lease liabilities), which are measured at amortised cost using the effective interest rate method.
Impairment of financial assets
At the end of the reporting period the Association assesses whether there is any objective evidence that a financial asset or group of financial assets is impaired.

(i) Cash and cash equivalents
Cash and cash equivalents comprises cash on hand, demand deposits and short-term investments which are readily convertible to known amounts of cash and which are subject to an insignificant risk of change in value.
Bank overdrafts also form part of cash equivalents for the purpose of the statement of cash flows and are presented within current liabilities on the statement of financial position.
(j) Employee benefits
Provision is made for the Association's liability for employee benefits arising from services rendered by employees to the end of the reporting period. Employee benefits that are expected to be wholly settled within one year have been measured at the amounts expected to be paid when the liability is settled.
3 Critical Accounting Estimates and Judgments
The directors make estimates and judgements during the preparation of these financial statements regarding assumptions about current and future events affecting transactions and balances.
These estimates and judgements are based on the best information available at the time of preparing the financial statements, however as additional information is known then the actual results may differ from the estimates.
The significant estimates and judgements made have been described below.
Key estimates - receivables
The receivables at reporting date have been reviewed to determine whether there is any objective evidence that any of the receivables are impaired. An impairment provision is included for any receivable where the entire balance is not considered collectible. No impairment exists in the current financial period.
Key estimates - inventory
Each item on inventory is reviewed on an annual basis to determine whether it is being carried at higher than its net realisable value. During the year, management have written down inventory based on best estimate of the net realisable value, although until the time that inventory is sold this is an estimate.
