Speaking well requires strong listening skills.

Listening in a discussion

You should listen politely to the other members of your group in a discussion. It is essential that you allow people to express their viewpoints and that you do not interrupt them while they are speaking.

In pairs, make a list of ways in which you can show that you are listening in a discussion.

In your speaking and listening task, it is vitally important to listen carefully to other people’s ideas. Your responses will show whether you have understood the subject and have the ability to reflect on what others have said.
