NewMat project concerns the implementation of new materials for enhancement of the existing- and introduction of innovative technologies of energy production.
New materials with improved properties will increase performance and efficiency of clean energy production, but also contribute to cost savings.
NewMat offers complex multi-disciplinary research, technology and education based on horizontal- and visionary concepts to solve the materials’ problems defined by industry.
The expected outcomes include new products launched to the market and new business creation.
Finally, the plan for the future business exploitation the results will be developed.

Potential degradation mechanisms for nuclear power plant components include irradiation embrittlement, void swelling and irradiation creep- and stress corrosion cracking.
High temperature reactors (HTR): • helium bubble formation (He embrittlement/swelling, creep) in Ni-base alloys,• improving capabilities of advanced oxide dispersion strengthened (ODS) alloys for heat exchangers• modified 9-12% Cr martensitic steels
Low temperature water cooled reactors (LWR) require qualification of materials that experience both elevated temperature and radiation exposure and survive the hostile supercritical water environment:• 9-12% Cr martensitic steels • low- swelling variants of austenitic stainless steels,• ODS steels.
