This was particularly evident when a popular model was re- launched for farmers who have a nostalgic fondness for easy to use work-horse tractors. ‘The original Landini 60 Series was introduced in 1988, and you’ll still find thousands of them working reliably on Australian farms,’ said Gary Surman from Inlon, Landini’s east coast distributor. ‘Recognising the popularity and longevity of the model, Landini recently launched a massively upgraded Super 8860 with modern styling and improved ergonomics and controls to appeal to both old and new Landini enthusiasts. Many farmers will remember the square shaped bonnet of the old model. The new Super 8860 has a rounded, curved bonnet design for better visibility and rounded mudguards for a smooth ride through vegetation.’ The Super 8860 tractor has retained the features that lie behind its longevity. ‘The 4.4-litre Perkins engine has been a true performer over many years in Australia,’ said Surman. ‘The horsepower, stability, high-lift capacity and 3- tonne weight mean the Super 8860 can handle heavy duty applications, while the simple controls make it easy to operate.’ ‘What’s new is the improved ergonomics, as fortunately, we’ve come a long way since the Eighties,’ laughed Surman. ‘The gearshift lever on the right-hand side and the range lever on the left are easy to reach, while the shuttle lever adjacent to the steering wheel makes for quick shifting from forward to reverse. For driver comfort, there’s a sprung seat and a sound-proofed rubber floor mat.’ ‘This is the only European-made utility ROPS on the Australian market,’ added Surman. ‘It’s built for utility work, hay work, bale lifting and a lot more. There are high clearance and narrow wheel options for vegetable applications. Also, the creeper gear option will be welcomed in the vegetable sector – customers can choose from a 12 x 12 or 16 x 16 transmission with creeper gear.’ Safety and peace of mind are also in line with modern expectations, with a two-post Roll Over Protection Structure (ROPS) and a 2 year / 2,400- hour factory warranty. As well as this historic tractor, Landini is renowned for their specialist orchard and vineyard tractors, high clearance tractors and general farm tractors with cabins and front-end loaders.
