FDX flow chartRules of the game
• Use your bid-line award with the flow chart (Your pairing sequence [trip sequence]) – The SKD rules applied are based on the BASIC contract… Most airlines build SKDs that are not as restrictive as they could be
because of the basic operation (business model does not require it).
• Reserve rules are omitted• FAR limit extensions excluded
• Under certain conditions, FDX pilots can operate up to the FAR limits, but the Co. cannot schedule bid-lines to FAR limits. A day at FDX works like this:
– Duty period built within the scheduled (SKD) parameters.– Once you report for a trip, you can be extended to actual (ACT) limits.– Under extreme conditions & after you report, you could be extended anywhere from the ACT limit up to the 16-hr FAR limit.
• If you are extended 1-minute beyond the ACT limit, you get paid an additional 3-credit hours (FAR pay).
• Why the omissions:– Reduces pages and allows easier navigation through the flow chart; and you now know the FAR loophole.
• About FDX’s first contract: – Many of these loopholes are a result of a “first-time” contract.
• All normal and abnormal disclaimers apply.– I am no expert on the subjects covered.– Use at your own risk.
07-26-06 (original 04-22-03) **** NO substantive changes ****
1) Red “Stop” circles now read “Illegal Co can NOT schedule this”2) Made many “Yes/No” paths easier to follow/answer.
2
How the flow works
• Start at the top of each page
• Answer questions and or chose the most appropriate path
• Go to page numbers referenced– Page numbers are on the BOTTOM right corner of each slide/page.
3
What’s the order of logic
• Scheduled or Actual situation
• Theater of Operation:– Domestic– Specific flight combinations – International– Special Int’l Bids/Flights
• Parameters– Duty Period (DP)– Block Hours (BLK)– Rest– Dead Head (DH)– Legs– Misc.
**NOTE** Parameters are not always in that order
4
1. Use a trip-sequence (I.e. 9-day trip) from a bid-line to follow the flow chart.
2. Look at things in the perspective of a specific duty period in that trip-sequence, but always keep situational awareness of the entire trip sequence.
-- I.e. Start from the first day but keep in mind that some questions will ask you to reference the entire trip (some noted by “ ”) and then within the next 1 to 4 questions return you back to your original duty period.
3. Keep in mind that you are looking at the bare-bones of FDX’s parameters. Trips there like here are usually built with a mix of contract limits and something better because of the nature of the business.
4. The scheduling “ ” pages are based on building lines and those lines awarded. Open-Time pick-up may have longer SKD and ACT duty periods associated than what I’ve put together.
So, Open-Time banditos beware!
5. A Deadhead followed by an operating flight is prohibited. (I.e. DH then Operate)
6. This is for reference only. Use at your own risk. All disclaimers apply. Errors of any kind are not intentional.
Please contact me if you find any.

In this trip sequence, will you make more than 13 LDGs that were associated with a report time of OR fall between 0100 & 0459 LBT? (12 + 1 additional LDG caused by actual ops)
** Count the LDGs between 0100 & 0459 LBT and those associated to any DP with a SKD report between 0100 & 0459. **
A max of 12-LDGs were SKD and because of legal delays, you are actually projected to make 15-LDGs. So, answering YES (you exceed 13-LDGs) under this situation is correct.

SIBA & FDA Notes
• Co may SKD using DOMESTIC ---rest rules as long as the:
– Block hours do not exceed 6-hrs in a single DP and the– Duty period does not exceed 11-hrs.
• If you ACTUALLY exceed either the 6-hr block or 11-hr duty period limits, you must receive a minimum international rest of 12-hrs rest afterwards.
• Intercontinental DH shall receive 18-hrs rest prior to an operating flight.
• ALL the other rules follow/remain under the international provisions
• The LOGIC basically is: The Co may use Domestic rest rules, but they may only operate you to shorter duty period and block hour limits with this shorter rest period. (Less rest = less work load)
