EDIT 2013 User Interface Enhancements
European Commission – Eurostat
Current Status User Interface (UI) Enhancements Import Screen Homepage and Workflows Lists
Agenda
2
Current Situation
Users need to know how to navigate the menus available to perform basic tasks
Area that displays data is fixed, the amount of data displayed in grids is limited
Banner & Menu takes up a lot of room from the top of the UI, users often need to scroll down to the useful area on every page
Complex pages require users to perform complex repetitive actions
3
UI Enhancements
Streamline the workflow of the user Allow display area to stretch on the screen to use all
available space Remove the need for scrolling down to see the useful
information Save user settings into templates that can be reused
4
Import Screen
Old Version:– Very complex screen– Can be simplified only through configuration for each
domain (cannot be done by the users)– Existing Templates system is not simple enough
New Version:– Advanced settings hidden for regular users– Users can define their own templates
5
User Workflow
6
Homepage and Workflows
Old Version:– Useful only for user related actions (change
password/domain)– In order to go through the workflow, the User must
navigate the menus New Version:
– User related actions grouped in one section– Predefined Workflows are displayed to the User– Status of ongoing workflows is displayed
7
Lists
Old Version:– Filter area and Selection items use up too much space,
users need to scroll down– Action Icons mixed up and sometimes difficult to identify
New Version:– Compact design– Standardized icons layout– Primary actions are highlighted– Icons pop-up so users know clearly what action they are
performing
