Elect r i f ic a t ion o f Veh ic les

HEV (Balanced city/highway driving)• Better fuel economy and emissions v. ICE•

• New and fun drivingex erience

• No compromise in performance

PHEV (Extended city range battery mode)• A better HEV in every way (FE, emissions, image, etc.)

• Best in class fueleconomy / Green

• More costly because of more batteries

BEV (Close range city driving--100 mile range)• Best possible Fuel Economy (zero fuel) and emissions (zero)

• Infrastructure and

value equation

7

 • Range anxiety and cost are unique challenges

What Help is Needed From the Petroleum Industry ?

Fuels :

• Narrow the range of gasoline quality (i.e. volatility) in the marketplace – current

• Trend to higher octane / cetane for customer benefit on new-technology engines

•

• Expand bio-fuel research (E20-E100 and B20+) to achieve increased performance, improved combustion and cold start satisfaction for global customers

• Continue cooperation on fuel standards (worldwide)

• Improve countermeasures for fuel injector tip deposits (all global markets)

What Help is Needed From the Petroleum Industry ?

Lubrication:

• Deliver consistent engine oil quality conformance to assure adequate oil life – Ford,

• Develop lubricants for new fuel efficient powertrain technologies to enable:•Higher temperatures and higher load duty cycles

•Faster warm-up•Flatter viscosity index --same viscosity over wider temperature range

• Work toward global engine oil specifications

• Develop new low-viscosity gear oils to improve transmission efficiency

• Research next generation friction reduction ideas (Engine and Transmission)
