• Senior Fulbright Specialist, Tegucigalpa, Honduras, July-August 2016. Worked to bring educational access to rural communities across Honduras. The focus was on monitoring and evaluation, including: − Gather baseline outcomes from educational development literature

and current international initiatives in education (NGO/GOVERNMENT STAKEHOLDERS)

− Meet with government officials in the ministry of education in Tegucigalpa to understand country agenda and priorities for educational development projects outside of EDUCATODOS (E2E, Government Partners)

Leaders. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Course presents curriculum and instruction from a leadership perspective within the contexts of K-12 schools and community colleges. Students examine contemporary issues in school curriculum, including policy initiatives and reform efforts affecting curricular decision-making.

EDBM 272A. Methods for Teaching Second Language Learners,

Multiple Subject (ELD and SDAIE). Focus on teaching candidates the methods, techniques and strategies needed to make content accessible for second language learners. Candidates will learn to use the ELD standards to create ELD lessons and SDAIE lessons within multicultural framework. Candidates will also learn how to interpret and implement formative and summative assessments.

EDBM 279A. Method and Materials for Teaching Secondary English

Learners, A. This course introduces students to a repertoire of theory-based methods that will allow them to facilitate and measure their students' growth in English language development (ELD) and create learning environments which promote content area learning through the use of Specially Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE). Students will acquire knowledge and skills related to methods of teaching a second language through readings, fieldwork, discussion, group interaction, lesson

EDTE 200. Practicum in Decoding and Fluency: Assessment and Instruction.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Research, practice, and issues related to decoding, spelling, and fluency instruction from preschool through adult with applications to classroom teaching. Includes a practicum for assessing and tutoring students having difficulty in decoding.

EDTE 201. Practicum in Comprehension: Assessment and Instruction.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Research, practice and issues related to vocabulary, background knowledge and comprehension and study strategies from preschool through adult with applications for classroom teaching. Topics include motivation, metacognition, and strategic reading. Analysis of formal and informal assessment measures with a focus on utility, reliability, and validity. In the practicum portion, teachers assess and tutor students with reading difficulties.

EDTE 202. Language and Literacy in Multicultural Settings.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Research and theory related to the nature of culture, first and second language acquisition, schooling and literacy development.

EDTE 205. Psychology and Sociology of Literacy Instruction.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Overview of quantitative and qualitative research in the psychology and sociology of literacy, focusing on seminal and current research. Participants analyze research and address implications for classroom practice. Further, participants generate their own individual Action Research proposals for peer review based on research and teaching experience.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Practice in developing those understanding attitudes and competencies that will enable participants to become effective facilitators of language, literacy and reading growth for all learners.

EDS 220. Language and Literacy in General and Special Education I. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Gives participants principles,

techniques, research, and procedures, and research to develop phonological awareness, systematic and explicit phonics, and other word recognition strategies; the course will also give participants techniques on how to assess a student in reading and use the information to assist the students with reading difficulties. The participants will receive information on first and second language acquisition as it relates to reading of second language learners.

EDS 221. Language and Literacy in General and Special Education II.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Will give participants principles, techniques, procedures, and research in spelling and handwriting instruction, reading comprehension and information will also be presented on the structure of the English language and how it relates to reading.

EDTE 251. Education for a Democratic and Pluralistic Society.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Advanced study of social and psychological issues which need to be considered in education relating to the client, the educator, the community and society.

EDTE 299. Special Problems. Individual projects at graduate level

especially for students capable of independent study. EDTE 372. Anthropology and Education. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Applies educational anthropology to

the cultural context of schoolings, including factors contributing to social inequality and the conditions necessary for social change.

EDTE 021. Freshman Seminar: Becoming an Educated Person.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Intended to provide students with an introduction to the nature and possible meanings of higher education, and the functions and resources of the University.

EDTE 371B. Schools and Community B.

COURSE DESCRIPTION: Second part of a 2-course sequence that provides structured opportunities for student teachers to

Emphasis on issues related to English language development, special needs students, cycle of teaching, school law pertaining to students, professional and ethical behaviors required of teachers. Management strategies and activities that contribute to the classroom/school. Students will develop equitable and positive management plans and reflect on their effectiveness during field experiences.

EDTE 373B. Assessment Center Laboratory II. Individualized support

for the infusion of technology into field experiences. Support for students as they build an electronic portfolio. Through consultation with field supervisors/liaisons, assessment center instructor will also provide individualized support for the completion of the TPA tasks.

EDTE 421A/B/C. Student Teaching Fieldwork Supervision A/B/C. COURSE DESCRIPTION: Student teaching supervision in a

public school classroom with diverse learners. EDTE 503. Master of Arts Thesis/Project. Culminating Experience:
