ASA CodesNumber Name Brief Description

1 Compliance All pictures included in the Advert must be relatable, fair, acceptable and unbiased.

2 Recognition of marketing communications

To make it an advert the images and text have to be clear and relate to the product that is being advertised. Pictures, Slogans and Colour Schemes will have to be included and have to be understood as an advert of that specific product.

3 Misleading Adverts Everything included on the advert has to be the truth. It has to included the correct expense, consequences and function of the product.

4 Harm and Offence The advert can not be offensive to any sort of person and has to make the product approachable to all people.

5 Children If the product being advertised is going to be used by the younger generation then the advert has to be polite and can’t include anything inappropriate. The advert can’t come across as forceful in any way possible.

6 Privacy If you are wanting to included someone or something that is popular or well-known in the advert then you would need to ask them for permission first.

13 Food, food supplements and associated health or nutritional claims

If advertising a food product you can't give false information about the health consequences without proof. If the product has any unhealthy ingredients then they have to be clearly shown.

Mind Map

Page 4: 1. communication methods (kr)

Mind Map

• Strengths of using this method• Using a mind map makes it easier to link ideas together using arrows and lines so you can understand what it is your planning. • Being able to use arrows and lines means that you can build on ideas and explain them without it starting to look to

complicated or confusing. • You can use different shapes and colours to group and organise ideas and you can even make a key so you know what each

shape or colour means.

• Weaknesses of using this method• The set out of a mind map makes it more difficult to fit every piece of information in, the boxes have to be small and if you

need to build on the idea you have to create a new box and join them together. • If a mind map is written it can become unclear to where the arrows are pointing and which ideas link together.• It also takes a fairly long time to make a mind map on the computer as you have to create the boxes and arrows and place

them into the right place.

• Did you like using this method? Why? I found the mind map method very helpful as it was a chance the write down simple ideas and explain them In a way that was creative. It also meant I could use different colours and shapes. I was able to think about the themes, images and text that I would possibly use on my poster. Hopefully when I come to make the poster I wont be short on ideas.

Mood Board

I chose these images because they are relevant to Coca-Cola. Each picture has a different colour scheme or theme which gives me loads of different ideas. A lot of the pictures include the colour red or the traditional Coca-Cola font. This is probably because we relate the font to Coca-Cola and we recognise it as the ‘Coca-Cola Font’.

The picture underneath has a different theme to the other which it vintage/retro. I think this is a good idea as it’s different and shows that Coca-Cola has been a popular drink for a long time. A drink that has been around for a long time and still popular must mean that it is a good drink.

The picture above has a Christmas Coca-Cola theme which I think would be really good as Coca-Cola do a lot of advertisement for different seasons. The Coca-Cola Christmas Lorry is popular at Christmas and a lot of people go and see it.

Page 6: 1. communication methods (kr)

Mood Board• Strengths of using this method• Being able to look and collect pictures and other posters relating to Coca-Cola means that you can see which ideas work well and

what colours and fonts are used most of the time. • Making a mood board gives you inspiration which makes it easier for when designing the poster because you will know what has

already been made so you can make something different and unique. • A mood board also means you can compare other pictures and poster and use some of the ideas from them to create your own

version of what has already been made.

• Weaknesses of using this method• When making a mood board you having the use the internet to get the images and place them onto the empty page which can

defiantly take up to much time. • It also limits your creativity when you start designing as you end up using ideas from other people rather than creating your own

unique ideas that haven’t been done before. • You also have to explain why you chose the pictures because if you don’t you wont remember why that picture is relevant or if you

want to use that picture to help create your own work.

• Did you like using this method? Why? I found the mood board method useful because I have now seen what type of Coca-Cola posters have already been done therefore I can make my own work different from others. I have also gathered inspiration for the colours, themes and fonts that I am going use, for example the Coca-Cola font would make my poster recognisable as a Coca-Cola poster.

Page 7: 1. communication methods (kr)

Style Sheet

I chose these fonts on the left because they have a vintage army theme which I think would be good for the advertisement poster. Using a vintage theme which would include these fonts would be a good idea as it’ll be unique and stand out.

Colours 3,4,8,9 and 10 are colours that are much darker and blander. These colours would go better with a vintage or retro themed poster as old poster never include bright colours like modern posters do.

Colour 1,2,5,6 and 7 would all work well with a Coca-Cola advertisement poster because they are bright and eye-catching.

The two fonts above I chose because they are recognisable for people the age of 16-18. The Assassin’s font is from a popular video game which most teens play. The Krash font is a similar font that you would find in a comic book which some teens read.

I chose the Old London font because it is traditional and I chose the Loki Cola because it relates to the Coca-Cola theme and is the Coca-Cola font.

The snowinter font would be good for a Christmas themed Coca-Cola advert.

Style Sheet

• Strengths of using this method• A style sheet means you have the opportunity to look through all the possible fonts and colours that you could use

before you design and make the poster which will makes it much easier. • If you do decide to use some of the colours and fonts on the style sheet for the advert/poster you already have the

sources because they are on the style sheet. • Making a style sheet means you can easily compare different fonts and colours with each other and doing this would

make it much easier to choose which ones to use.

• Weaknesses of using this method• It takes up quite a bit of time to find the colours and fonts on the internet and then to copy and paste them onto the

style sheet and explain why you chose them and say which ones you are going to use.• A style sheet also means that the colours and fonts that you chose for your poster have been designed and used by

someone else witch means that its not individual. • It limits the creativity you will have when you design the advert/poster because the fonts and colours aren’t you own.

• Did you like using this method? Why? Doing the style sheet gave me the chance to pick out the fonts and colours that I would like to use on my poster/advert which will make it much easier for when I design it. It was also a chance to be creative with other peoples font designs and colours and seeing which ones are the best and suitable for my poster.

Layout Plan

Open Happiness

There is a selection of different types of Coca-Cola cans which advertises the selection of products the company sells.

The cans of Coca-Cola are going to be hanging from ropes which goes with the vintage/cowboy theme. It makes it look like they are being used as shooting targets which match's the bullet holes.

In the middle of the page is some clip art bullet holes which adds more detail and makes the theme more obvious.

The advert/poster will have a traditional Coca-Cola fonts, there be two title that over lap and are different colours. The edges of the writing are made to look scruffy which adds to the vintage/retro theme.

Under the title I will add the Coca-Cola slogan ‘Open Happiness’. This gives the cans something to hang from and hopefully people will recognise the slogan.

I chose this background because it is vintage and is different from the backgrounds on other Coca-Cola posters.

Page 10: 1. communication methods (kr)

The striped background makes the advert more noticeable and eye catching. The colours are bright with a simple pattern.

At the bottom is a collection of Coca-Cola bottles which will have different opacity's and colour effects. I will also use the blending techniques on each layer until they are all visible and fit toghether.

The Coca-Cola title is going to have the same effects as the bottles but each letter will be a different colour like the striped background.

I will also put the slogan on there but in a different font add colour effects to it. To finish the advert I will change the contrast and brightness so everything roughly fades together.

Page 11: 1. communication methods (kr)

Layout Plan

• Strengths of using this method• Using a layout plan gives you the opportunity to plan where things are going to go on the poster/advert and if they are

going to work or look good together. • It also stops you making as many mistakes when making the finished advert/poster so it becomes easier and quicker. • If you chose to use any of the colours, fonts or pictures that are on the layout plan on the final poster then you already

have the resources you need which should make it easier.

• Weaknesses of using this method• It takes time gather the pictures, fonts and colours for the layout plan when your necessarily not going to use then in

the final poster. • It limits the creativity you can have on Photoshop because Photoshop has much more effects and tools than

PowerPoint has. • It gives you a mind set of what the poster is going to look like which stops you from trying other things when you

making the final piece.

• Did you like using this method? Why? I liked this method the most because it was more creative and I could see what my ideas would look like as a final product. It also made it easier for when I started making the design. The layout plan also meant that I had already collected the colours, fonts and pictures that I would need for my final poster/advert.

Brainstorm

Page 13: 1. communication methods (kr)

Brainstorm

• Strengths of using this method• Doing a brainstorm gives you the opportunity to gain more ideas from other people and share your ideas

with them. • Talking to other people about ideas for the project helps you build on ideas and link each other ideas

together to make something better. • You can refer back to the brain storm when making the radio advert therefore you will always have ideas to

work with.

• Weaknesses of using this method• It limits the creativity you can do when experimenting with the software. • It also limits the creativity when your looking for sound effects, music and making the advert.• It means that most of the people in your group will have similar ideas to you therefore your work wouldn’t

be as unique as it could be.

• Did you like using this method? Why?• Yes because it was a chance to work with other people and listen to their ideas and opinions.

Informal Pitch

Radio Advert Summary:

The radio advert that I am going to make will have a running time of up to 20 seconds long. It will include music, details of the product and sound effects. I am going to make the radio advert on Adobe Audition because it has effects such as fade, echo and crossfade. The theme of the advert will be ‘Christmas’ this means the music in the background will be a simple Christmas jingle. The voice in the advert will be a deep mans voice that will be Santa. It will start of will the background music fading in and then the noise of a Coca-Cola can being opened and poured into a glass. Afterwards a voice will say ‘delicious ahhh’. Then another voice will mention Coca-Cola and describe how delicious it is. Some of the sound effects and layers will fade in with each other or overlap which will make the radio advert sound more consistent rather than having a gap in between each section or sound effect or music. There will also be the sound of footsteps at the beginning so it sounds like someone is walking up the can of coke before they open it which will add more detail.

I am going to use YouTube and sound effect websites to find the resources I need to put together the radio advert, I will then use different effects and tools to put together each sound clip until the fade together. I chose a Christmas themed radio advert because Coca-Cola adverts are really popular at Christmas.

Page 15: 1. communication methods (kr)

Informal Pitch

• Strengths of using this method• An informal pitch means you and your group can share your ideas with the teacher who gives you advice of

what ideas would work and which ones wouldn’t.• You can also decided the final idea for the product and think about how it will work and how and what tool

your going to use to make it.• It creates a mind set for when you making the radio advert, you have a rough idea what is going to happen.

• Weaknesses of using this method• It limits your creativity because you can’t experiment with the software and see what effects and tools you

could use to put it together.• It also takes time to talk to the teacher about the same things you have talked about in your group. • Your ideas are shared with the group and the teacher which means that most of the radio advert for

everyone in the group are either going to be the same or very similar.

• Did you like using this method? Why?• I found this method useful because I was able to find out what would work and what wouldn’t and why it

wouldn’t. I now have a final idea of what the radio advert is going to be like and how it is going to work.

Group Idea Generation

Page 18: 1. communication methods (kr)

Group Idea Generation

• Strengths of using this method• It means you can discuss and decide what the video production is going to be about and what is going to

happen as a group.• Working as a group on a product like this video production means there is a larger amount of ideas to work

from and think about. • You can talk to the group about what ideas would work best together and plan what going to happen and how

your going to make it which will makes it easier for filming.

• Weaknesses of using this method• Doing a group idea generation means that everyone in the group is going to have similar ideas to yours

therefore your video production won’t be unique.• It takes time to get together as a group and dis cuss what is going to happen and you ten have to write it down

on paper and scan it into the computer.

• Did you like using this method? Why?• I found this method useful because I gained more different ideas from other people in the group and was able

to get it down on paper. It makes it more creative working with other people and is a chance to build on my ideas and use ideas from other people.

Page 19: 1. communication methods (kr)

Formal Pitch

Page 20: 1. communication methods (kr)

Formal Pitch

• Strengths of using this method• Doing a formal pitch makes you consider the legal and ethical points of making a video production which can assure

you are safe to make the product without offending people or braking the law.• It makes sure you have thought about everything that you are going to need to do to make the video product and

how it’s going to work.• You can also see if you need to change anything about the design/idea of the video product. For example if you were

planning on using an idea which would be offensive to someone you can now change it so they don’t find it offensive.

• Weaknesses of using this method• You have to add as much detail as you can so it takes a fairly long time and you have to discuss it in a group before

you write it down.• I can limit your ideas because some of the ideas you think about you might not be able to use due to the points on

the formal pitch.

• Did you like using this method? Why?• I found this method really useful because it allowed my to think about my ideas for my video production in a deeper

depth to assure it is suitable and safe to use. It also gave me the chance to think of a name for the production and a brief description of what is going to happen in it.

Page 21: 1. communication methods (kr)

Storyboards

Page 22: 1. communication methods (kr)

Storyboards

Page 23: 1. communication methods (kr)

Storyboards• Strengths of using this method• The drawings help you see what the shot is going to look like and what shots your going to need to create.• It helps you think about the effects and camera angels that are going to be used in the video production.• The writing area means that you can write a short sentence summing up what the camera shot is about and how

it’s going to be filmed.

• Weaknesses of using this method• Using a storyboard means you can’t imagine what the shot is going to look like very well and you can’t tell how

long the shot is going to last.• The drawings/images are never one hundred percent clear as to what is actually happening in the part of the

video production.• Some of the shot that will be included could have been missed out when making the story board which is going

to make it harder for when it’d being filmed.

• Did you like using this method? Why?• Yes because it meant I could plan out what each shot was going to look like and how I’m going to video them. I

was able to think about the different camera angels and effects I would use and why I would use them. I also did this as a group so I could share my ideas with other people and listen to the different ideas they also had.

Page 24: 1. communication methods (kr)

Informal PitchVideo Production Summary:

The Video Production I am going to make will start of with a close up shot of someone putting money into a vending machine, it will then move onto the next shot which will be of the person pressing the number buttons for the bottle of coke. It will then move onto a shot of the bottle of coke falling from the vending machine and the person taking it out from the bottom. The next shot will be of the person still stood near the vending machine and opening the bottle of coke and the drinking it. The background settings in the video will be blurred so you can only slightly see what is happening in the background which will hopefully make it look more natural. The music will be the Coca-Cola song ‘The Real Thing’ which will be playing over the video. At the end there will be the Coca-Cola animation and the slogan ‘Open Happiness’.

Page 25: 1. communication methods (kr)

Informal Pitch• Strengths of using this method• It allows you to evaluate your ideas and see which shots will come first and which will come last and see

how it’s going to be filmed.• You also get to write everything that is going to happen in order and sum it up which will make it easier for

filming.• It makes it easier for when your filming because you will know what shot’s need to be taken and what

order they need to be taken in.

• Weaknesses of using this method• It doesn’t make everything one 100% clear and it’s a good set out of the ideas and plan.• It’s written in a lot of detail which means that when you refer back to it when filming it can be more

difficult.

• Did you like using this method? Why?• No because it took to much time and I haven’t used it to refer back to when making the video because I

didn’t find it useful and haven’t used it for help at all.

Page 26: 1. communication methods (kr)

Initial ReactionI am going to create an advergame for Coca-Cola. I will make this on Photoshop and possible add animation to it. It will be pixel based which means it will be made out of different pixels put together to create an image. Since the project is based on Coca-Cola the advergame has to include Coca-Cola or relate to it in some way. The first step I will do is create some simple sketches of the ideas I have and start practising the using pixels on makepixelart.com. I will then make a formal proposal so I can discuss the detail of the game and who will play it etc. I will then start to make the advergame and I will finish by evaluating the finished piece.

Page 27: 1. communication methods (kr)

Initial Reaction

• Strengths of using this method• It means you can sum up the basic things you are going to do to create the advergame which will make it

much easier to understand what to do.• Also if you write the initial reaction in the order of what your going to do you can then follow those steps

throughout making the project.

• Weaknesses of using this method• Doing the initial reaction can make it hard to follow the steps as its set out as a paragraph rather than a list,

doing it as a list of the steps your going to do will make it much easier to follow.

• Did you like using this method? Why?• Yes, it will make it easier for when I come to make the advergame because I can follow the steps which will

assure me that I haven’t missed any of the steps out.

Page 28: 1. communication methods (kr)

Initial Idea Generation

Page 29: 1. communication methods (kr)

Initial Idea Generation

• Strengths of using this method• It allows you to gather all your different idea into one place and build on the ideas you have and to add

details• You also get to think about the ideas you’ve come up with in more detail so you can see and think about

which ideas will work and which ones wont.• Being able to plan out the details your going to add to the advergame will make it easier for when your

making it because you will be able to refer back to the idea generation.

• Weaknesses of using this method• The ideas written on the idea generation aren’t that detailed which might make it more difficult when

making as there might be parts you have to improvise when making the advergame.• When doing an idea generation you are planning the advergame before you have discovered what tools

and skills you can use when using the software chosen. You don’t know what your capable of.

• Did you like using this method? Why?• Yes because I found it easier to keep track of the ideas I has so I didn’t forget anything and it also gave me a

plan to go by so it was much easier for when i started making the advergame.

Page 30: 1. communication methods (kr)

Sketches

Page 31: 1. communication methods (kr)

Sketches

• Strengths of using this method• Doing the sketches gave me a clear understanding of what the finished advergame should look like if I was

a successful project.• I could also plan the shaped and the colours and the smaller details which will make it much easier for

when I doing it on Photoshop using pixel art.

• Weaknesses of using this method• It can limit the creativity you have when starting to make the advergame because you don’t know what

your capable of when using the software and you could make something better than the designs you have chosen.

• Did you like using this method? Why?• I found this communication method much easier than the rest because there wasn’t any rules to stick by

and I could improvise when drawing out the ideas. I did find that it made it easier for making the advergame and I stuck by the drawing and designs I made. I didn't add colour to the designs as I wanted to see what colours I could use on Photoshop.
