Bucharest is the capital city, cultural, industrial and financial centre of Romania. It is the largest city in Romania, located in the southeast of the country. Bucharest proper has a population of 1,944,367. The urban area extends

beyond the limits of Bucharest proper and has a population of 2 million people.

Nursery school - organized according to the age 3-5

Compulsory formal education, on two levels: Primary school - 1st to 4th grade (age 7-11).

This level is focused on acquiring of general culture with instrumental orientation (acquiring writing, reading and computing skills, initiation in specific languages) Secondary school (gymnasium) - 5th to 8th grade (age 11-15).     This level is focused on acquiring of the basic general culture (the basic information of the main areas of knowledge).

THE ROMANIAN EDUCATIONAL SYSTEM

High school - 9th to 12th grade, as normal education, or reduced frequency and evening classes.The High School level is orientated to the specific

knowledge fields (science, human and social, technology, economics), opening onto optional culture; Vocational school - three years, as normal education or

evening classes, for crafts in all the activity fields.        The vocational education includes the orientation

towards obtaining the necessary knowledge and skills of a specific profession.   Complementary school (apprenticeship) - two years,

practical training for certain jobs.

The Higher Education/University level is focused on the acquiring of a specific theoretical and practical knowledge, specialized for a particular knowledge field.

Postgraduate courses - Masters and Doctoral studies

Special-need education - all levels, except for higher education, for disabled students and with special needs.

Romania takes part in European community programmes: Lifelong Learning Program and Youth in Action, E-twinning etc.

High Education - public and private universities, short duration (2 - 3 years) and long duration (4-6 years).

Buzau is a city in the South-Eastern part of Romania, in Wallachia, and a county seat of the homonym county. Situated on the right bank of the Buzau river, it has got about 133 000 inhabitants; archbishopric seat; industrial and cultural city.

Educational Levels

Nursery school - structured according to the age 3-5 – two classes consists of 60 preschool children.

The students in the classes specialized for primary school teacher-kindergarten teacher and those in the classes specialized for instructor-entertainers carry out specific pedagogical practice within the framework of this education level.

Primary school - 1st to 4th grade (age 7-11) – 16 classes, four of them being in Step by Step alternative educational system.

Within the framework of this education level also, the students in the classes specialized for primary school teacher-kindergarten teacher and those in the classes specialized for instructor-entertainers carry out specialized pedagogical practice.

The instructor-entertainer profile students carry on pedagogical practice in Special Schools and Camps also.

Secondary school (gymnasium) - 5th to 8th grade (age 11 - 15) These students carry on educational activities in classrooms and laboratories (science and IT).

PEDAGOGICAL PROFILE Specialization: primary school teacher - kindergarten

teacher

The kindergarten teacher is the first professional person in the educational system required to ensure children with basic education, and very important, to ensure the integration of children in day-to-day life. She is an adult specialized in education, therefore she is responsible for the education.

She must know:- the child and the appropriate ways of relating with him;- ways of fostering the relationship and respect between children, - the development material;- the specificity and the sequence of the curriculum activities;- how to engage parents in the children knowledge process and the

educational methods specificity. The kindergarten teacher organizes activities with the small groups and

with the whole class which, naturally, are achieved by cooperation.   The kindergarten teacher needs theoretical and practical training which is

got in Pedagogical High Schools and educational training departments.

PEDAGOGICAL HIGH SCHOOL. EDUCATIONAL OFFER

HUMAN AND SOCIAL PROFILE Specialization: literature

The graduates will be multilateral and extensively trained in

humanities because the curriculum provides many hours of study for Romanian language and literature and foreign languages.

This educational profile provides the communication skills necessary for public relations in institutions, companies, lawyer/politician offices and facilitates hiring process;

They can get jobs in radio or television, as editors to various newspapers and magazines, as secretary etc. Graduating such a profile, they have an extra chance to attend a higher education level (literature, law, psychology, etc.).

HUMAN AND SOCIAL PROFILE Specialization: social science

Lately many of our graduates have given admission to universities, to newer specializations in the social field (communication and public relations, political science and European studies) but also to law and public administration, history-geography, philosophy or sociology.

Our graduates pursue direction of more and more intense demand for social science specialized people coming from the labor market; this specialization provides them the ability to become a teacher, a sociologist, a councilman or political analyst, a journalist, a manager, a specialist in public and international relations.

MATH PROFILE Specialization: Math - IT

There are very good facilities for our Math-IT students for carrying out the training and educational activities in our Pedagogical High School, two IT labs being equipped with modern technology.

Our IT students will learn the programming bases, they will develop an algorithmic thinking, they will know the newest information technologies and they will get skills to create Web pages.

The IT graduates can get a Programmer Assistant/Oracle certificate which provides more opportunities in getting a job.

EDUCATIONAL FACILITIES

There are many educational facilities in our school such as: two IT labs, one physics lab, one chemistry and biology lab, teaching library, French book library, 27 classrooms and one gym. All of them along with traditional and modern educational methods ensure an optimal educational program.

In our school educational process is carried out with the contribution of over 80 teachers (2 kindergarten teachers, 26 primary school teachers and 52 teachers of various specializations for middle school and high school levels) and 12 specialists as auxiliary teaching staff.

WAYS OF ACHIEVING THE EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES BY OUR TEACHERS

by attending the training activities - our teachers have improved their English and French language proficiency, they have identified a wide range of teaching & evaluation approaches/methods/techniques, they have updated knowledge about other countries/cultures/educational systems, they have encouraged other Comenius/LLP activities and it has been the driving force for developing their professional skills. The European dimension of the school activities it has been improved also.

Developing of innovative ways in adult education and their transfer from one participating country to the other, promoting of European cultures, supporting the European cooperation, promoting intercultural learning, visiting educational institutions of different levels and types, sharing the best practices in addressing the migration phenomenon in terms of intercultural education are all the elements to strengthen the European dimension in education in our school that will be pursued in the future.
