1.1 Trouble Shooting the Clarity Archive

1.1.1 Is the USB security key installed on the server? Is it the correctkey?

The correct USB security key will have a “Clarity” label on it. The security key should beinserted and left in a free USB port on the server. Running the Clarity Archive without asecurity key will cause the Clarity Archive to shut down automatically.

1.1.2 Are the services running?

Clarity 1 (Windows):

1. Go to Start→ Control Panel→ Administrative Tools→ Services.

2. Locate the services Clarity Archive and MySQL, then right click on each service andselect Start if possible. If Start is not in the list on the right click menu, then theservice is already started.

Clarity +/E (Linux):

1. Open a Terminal by going to Applications→ System Tools→ Terminal.

2. In the Terminal enter:

ps -ef | grep jboss

then press the Enter key.

3. If the service is running, the Terminal will return a block of text with the pro-cess information. If the service is not running, the Terminal will return the grepcommand.

4. If the service is not running, enter:

sudo service clarity start

and press the Enter key. The user may be prompted for the administrator password,if so, enter it.

5. Checking the MySQL service is similar. In the Terminal enter:

ps -ef | grep MySQLd

and press the Enter key. If the service is running, the Terminal will return theprocess information. If the service is not running, it will return the grep command.

6. If the service is not running, in the Terminal enter:

sudo service mysql start

and press the Enter key. The user may be prompted for the administrator password.

1.1.3 Is the launch.jnlp file correctly configured?

Clarity 1 (Windows):

1. Go to Start→ All Programs→ Clarity Archive→ JNLP Configuration to reconfigurethe JNLP file.

2. Go to the webpage to re-download the Clarity Viewer application.

If the Viewer does not launch, do the following:

1. Go to C:∖icrco∖dcm4chee-mysql∖server∖default∖deploy∖icrco-viewer.war

2. Locate the launch.jnlp file.

3. Open launch.jnlp with a text editor (e.g. Notepad or Wordpad. Do not use MicrosoftWord or another word processor).

4. Locate the string (near the top of the file):

<jnlp spec="1.0+" codebase="https://IPADDRESS:8443/icrco-viewer/">

and replace ’IPADDRESS’ with the IP address of computer.

5. Locate the string:

<application-desc main-class="com.icrco.ui.client.Application">

and enter the IP address of the system in the second and third argument strings,like this:

6. Save the file.

7. Re-download the Clarity Viewer application from the webpage.

Clarity +/E (Linux):On Linux, the file will need to be edited by hand:

1. Go to /clarity/server/default/deploy/icrco-viewer.war/.

2. Locate the launch.jnlp file inside the icrco-viewer.war folder. Right click the launch.jnlpfile, then choose Open in Text Editor.

3. Locate the string (near the top of the file):

<jnlp spec="1.0+" codebase="https://IPADDRESS:8443/icrco-viewer/"

and replace ’IPADDRESS’ with the IP address of the computer.

4. Locate the string:

<application-desc main-class="com.icrco.ui.client.Application">

1.1.4 Does the server have a static IP address?

iCRco recommends that the Clarity Archive be run with a static IP address.Clarity 1 (Windows):

1. Go to Start→ Run, then in the Run dialog enter: cmd

2. In the command prompt, enter:

ipconfig /all

then press Enter.

3. The command prompt will return some IP information. Locate the entry DHCPEnabled. If DHCP is enabled, then the computer is not on a static IP address. IfDHCP is disabled, then the computer is on a static IP address.

Clarity +/E (Linux):

1. Go to System→ Administration→ Network

2. Highlight the network interface (usually called “eth0”), then click the Edit button.

3. Make sure the radio dialog for Statically Set IP Address is checked, and that theproper IP address information is entered.Note: If the proper IP address information is not known, please contact a SystemAdministrator to obtain the proper information.

4. Click OK to save the changes.

5. Restart the network by opening a terminal (Applications→ System Tools→ Terminal)and entering:

sudo service network restart

The user may be prompted for an administrator password.

1.1.5 Are there any firewalls running on the network?

At the very least, TCP ports 104, 8443, and 11112 and UDP port 137 should be open. Forpurposes of troubleshooting, it is easiest to temporarily disable any firewalls running onthe server. If there are any third party hard or software firewalls running on the network,please contact the System Administrator for an appropriate solution.Disabling the firewall on the Clarity 1 (Windows):

1. Go to Start→ Control Panel→Windows Firewall.

2. Check the radio dialog box next to Off.

3. Click Ok.

Disabling the firewall on the Clarity +/E (Linux):

1. Go to System→ Administration→ Firewall.

2. Click the Disable button, then click the Apply button.

1.1.6 Are the Operating System and Java up to date?

Clarity 1 (Windows)Windows update:

1. Ensure that the computer has internet connectivity.

2. Go to Start→ Programs→Windows Update

3. Internet Explorer will open and begin searching for updates. Click the Expressbutton.

4. If there are updates available, the updates will be listed. Click Install Updates.

Java update:

1. Go to Start→ Control Panel→ Java.

2. Click on the Update tab, then on the Update Now button.

3. If there are updates for Java, download and install the updates.

Clarity +/E

1. Ensure that the computer has internet connectivity.

2. Open a Terminal by going to Applications→ System Tools→ Terminal.

3. In the terminal enter:

sudo yum update -y

then press Enter. The user may be prompted for an administrative password.

4. The system will update itself. A reboot may be required.

1.1.7 Windows only: Are the JAVA HOME path and system variables setcorrectly?

System Variable Path

1. Go to Start→ Run, and in the run dialog type

cmd

then press Enter.

2. In the command prompt enter:

3. Somewhere in the command prompt output should be: C:∖icrco∖JDK∖jdk1.6.0 04∖bin

If the Java path is not in the command prompt output, continue:

1. Go to Start→ Control Panel→ System, then click on the Advanced tab, then on theEnvironment Variables button.

2. Highlight the PATH variable, then click the Edit button.

3. In the Variable Value field, append the following to the string:

;c:\icrco\JDK\jdk1.6.0_04\bin

4. Click Ok to save the changes.

5. Open a new command prompt and enter

path

then locate the Java path variable in the output to ensure the path was enteredcorrectly.

JAVA HOME Path

1. Go to Start→ Run, and in the run dialog type

cmd

then press Enter.

2. In the command prompt enter:

set

then press Enter.

3. Somewhere in the command prompt output should be: C:∖icrco∖JDK∖jdk1.6.0 04

If the JAVA HOME path is not in the command prompt output, continue:

1. Go to Start→ Control Panel→ System, then click on the Advanced tab, then on theEnvironment Variables button.

2. Highlight the JAVA HOME variable, then click the Edit button. If this variable doesnot exist, click the New button, then enter

JAVA_HOME

(case sensitive) in the Variable Name field.

3. In the Variable Value field, enter:

;c:\icrco\JDK\jdk1.6.0_04

4. Click Ok to save the changes.

5. Open a new command prompt and enter

set

again, then locate the Java path variable in the output to ensure the path was enteredcorrectly.

1.2 On the Clarity Viewer Workstation

1.2.1 Is the workstation on the same domain/network as the server?

Clarity 1 (Windows):

1. Go to Start→ Run, then in the command prompt enter:

cmd

2. In the command prompt enter:

ping IPADDRESS

where “IPADDRESS” is the IP address of the server.Note: Depending on the network setup, the Clarity +/E (Linux) may not work wellwith Windows domains.

3. If the network is properly configured, the command prompt will return the pingrequest. If the network is misconfigured, the ping command will time out.

1.2.2 Is the Operating System & Java up to date?

1.2.3 Is Microsoft .NET 3.5 installed?

Microsoft .NET 3.5 is required for the Clarity Viewer CD burning module to work. Theeasiest way to check for its installation is to go to Start→ Control Panel→ Add or RemovePrograms and locate “Microsoft .NET 3.5 Framework.” If there is no entry in the Add orRemove Programs list of installed programs, obtain and install .NET 3.5 from MicrosoftUpdate.

1.2.4 Windows Theme

Ensure that the Clarity Viewer Workstation is using the Windows XP Blue theme.

1. Ensure that the Themes service is running. Go to Start→ Control Panel→ Adminis-trative Tools→ Services.

2. Locate the Themes service in the list.

3. Right mouse click on the Themes service, then select Start from the right click menuif it is available.

4. Go to Start→ Control Panel→ Display.

5. In the Theme tab, choose Windows XP, then click Apply.

1.3 On the Modality Acquisition Computer

If images are not appearing in the Clarity Archive or are not appearing in the ClarityArchive correctly, then use the following procedures to troubleshoot the configuration ofthe acquisition software:

1.3.1 Is the Acquisition Workstation on the same domain/network as theserver?

1. Go to Start→ Run, then in the run dialog enter:

cmd

2. In the command prompt enter:

ping IPADDRESS

where “IPADDRESS” is the IP address of the server.Note: Depending on the network setup, the Clarity +/E (Linux) may not work wellwith Windows domains.

3. If the network is properly configured, the command prompt will return the pingrequest. If the network is misconfigured, the ping command will time out.

1.3.3 Are the AE Titles & network information configured correctly?

The examples in this section are written for QPC XSCAN32. The values in this exampleare not to be taken literally, but should serve as a starting point for testing. Other DICOM-compliant software should function roughly in the same manner. Please consult the usermanual for your particular software for DICOM target configuration.DICOM Send from XSCAN to Clarity Archive

1. Open QPC XSCAN32, then go to the DICOM Controller.

2. In the DICOM Controller, click the Targets button.

3. In the Targets window, verify that there is a target with an AE Title called clarit-yarchive (all one word, lower case) and that the port is set to 11112. Ensure that theIP address in the target information is correct. The user may click the Test button tocheck if the Clarity Archive can be reached.

4. If there is no target, create one with an AE Title called clarityarchive (all one word,lower case), port 11112, and ensure that the IP address is correct.

DICOM Retrieve from Clarity Archive to XSCAN

1. Open QPC XSCAN32, then go to the DICOM Controller.

2. Find out the AE Title of XSCAN. In the DICOM Controller click on Configure, thenon Configure Program.

3. Copy down the AE Title and port. The user will need it later.

4. Open a web browser and go to

https://IPADDRESS:8443/clarityarchive

where IPADDRESS is the IP address of the Clarity Archive. Log into the ClarityArchive administrative page.

5. Click the AE Management link.

6. Locate the AE Title of XSCAN in the AE Title list and ensure that the AE Title, IPaddress, and port information is all correct. If there is no AE Title information, clickthe Add New AET button in the upper, right-hand corner of the page. Then fill inthe AE Title information with the information from step 3.

7. Click the Echo button to test the AE Title.

1.3.4 Sending Images to Clarity Archive as Separate Series

1. Open QPC XSCAN32. Go to Start→ Programs→ QPC XSCAN32.

2. The DICOM Controller should open when XSCAN is started. If the DICOM Con-troller did not open, open it by choosing the DICOM menu in XSCAN, then chooseStart DICOM Controller.

3. In the DICOM Controller, choose Configure. Click Ok when prompted for thepassword.

4. In the Configuration Dialog, there is an option to Send CR images with different seriesUID.If the box is checked, XSCAN will send images as seperate series.If the box is unchecked, XSCAN will send images as one series.
