BIS B121F Assignment 2
Date Due: 3 December 2008
Part A (50%)
You are a Business Analyst in First-Online Banka small start-up e-commerce banking company that hit it
big when the companys investors took the company public. With the number of employees expected to
reach 1,000 by the end of this year and the tight job market, the Benefits Committee has developed several
employee benefit plans to keep current employees and attract new employees. One of the new employee
benefits is a Retirement Investment Scheme (RIS).
Task 1 worksheet (15%)
The chairman of the Benefits Committee has asked you to develop a retirement investment model worksheet
that will allow each current and prospective staff to see the effect of investing a percent of his/her monthly
salary over a period of years. The plan calls for the company to match an employees investment dollar for
dollar up to 5%. Thus, if an employee invests 7.5% of his/her annual salary, then the company matches the
first 5%. If an employee invests 3% of his/her annual salary, then the company matches the entire 3%.
The chairman wants a one-input data table to show the future value of the investment for different periods of
time. The final model worksheet should be similar to the one displayed below.

periodic, constant payments and a constant interest rate. The syntax of this =FV( ) function is very
similar to =PMT( ) function. You may wish to use Excels Help function to find out the details.
(g) Apply conditional formatting function in cells E6:E15, F6:F15 and G6:G15 so that the correspondingresult would show the row that equals the year, future value and the amount that employee invested
respectively. They should be in bold and double underline formats.
(h) Adjust column widths and row heights. Set your worksheet in proper format (including font size/type,cell format and borders) as suggested above.

Annual Return in Left Column and Years in Top Row
(a) Prepare this two-input data table within the same worksheet that developed in Task 1.(b) Keep all the currency as integer and annual return with one decimal point.(c) Apply conditional formatting function in cells I5:I25, J4:O4 and J5:O25 so that the corresponding
results would show the values that equals the annual return, years and future values respectively.
They should be in bold and double underline formats.
(j) Adjust column widths and row heights. Set your worksheet in proper format (including font size/type,cell format and borders) as suggested above.
Task 4 Chart (15%)
(a) Based on the results of two-input data table in Task 3, plot a set of lines to show the future values withannual returns at 5% and 9% over time. They should be charted in a single graph.
(b) Set your chart in proper format. Show labels and data values. Display X-Y axis and chart title.Adjust the scale of Y-axis and therefore figures in your chart may be rounded up.
(c) Locate your Chart in another worksheet and name it as Chart. The final output should be similar tothe following chart.

Tasks
1. Create a database to store these three tables, and enter the data correctly. Print out the table structures of the threetables. Note that you must use the Documenter tool in MS Access to print out the table structures. Print out
the data records.
2. Set up an query to view (and save it as Query 1) the following columns (from left to right in the order specified) forcustomers who subscribed to service plan A and used autopay:
Customer ID Surname (Customer)
-
8/6/2019 1 B121F Assignment 2 Sep08
6/7
6
First Name (Customer) Plan Code Staff ID PositionSort the records by Surname (ascending) and then by Staff ID (ascending).
3. Set up another query (and save it as Query 2) to show all customers who are being looked after by a staff memberwho joined the company (i.e. date of appointment) in 2001 or 2005. The columns to be shown and the order of
the columns from left to right are the same as the previous one (i.e. Query 1). Sort the records by Plan Code
(ascending) and then by Staff ID (ascending).
4. Set up a third query (and save it as Query 3) to show all customer records that are related to a staff member whoholds the position of Sales Assistant. The columns to be shown are:
Plan Code Surname (Customer) First Name (Customer) Staff IDAlso, you need to add a calculated column. The name of the calculated column is 'Account Payable'. This
column is to show exactly how much a customer pays in the current month. Basically a customer only has to pay
the monthly fee unless his/her online hours exceed the free connection hours within his/her service plan. And in
case the customers online hours exceed the free connection hours within his/her service plan, he/she has to pay:
Monthly Fee + (Online Hours - Free Connection Hours) * Charge Per Hours.
In order to complete this task, you may need to use an Access function IIF(). The usage of this function is similar
to the one, IF(), in MS Excel.
Sort the records by Plan Code (Ascending), and then by Surname (ascending) and First Name (ascending)
respectively.
5. Prepare a report based on the result of the third query using the report wizard of Access. The title of the report is'Account Payable (by Staff)'. The report should be grouped by Plan Code. The figures in the Account Payable
column should be displayed in the currency format (i.e. with $ sign and commas and without decimal places).
Statistics data such as Sum, Average, Min and Max amount for each Plan Code should be shown. Save it as
Account Payable by Staff. Your final report should be similar to the one listed below.

6. Submit the softcopy of your database. Save your Access work in a file named s********a2_B.mdb where********* is your 8-digit student number.
Assignment Submission Procedures
All the assignments must be submitted via the OLE (http://ole.ouhk.edu.hk). After getting into the B121F
homepage, enter the Assignment Submission page on your right. Click the TMA 2 to access the Answer
Sheet. Then scroll down to Answer Section for Students. Now you can fill in the textbox for the assignment
details. It is optional but you may like to put in the number of files and the filenames.
To attach the files for your TMA, click the "Browse" button to locate the file on your hard disk. Then select on
the file and click "Open". Repeat the above steps until all your TMA files are included. Note that you will
need to upload 2 files (i.e., 1 MS Excel file and 1 MS Access file) for this TMA. Make sure that your work is
done in Microsoft Office 2003 and the filenames are in the required convention.
If you have completed all the work and are ready to submit your assignment, click the Save & Submit button.
Note that you will NOT be able to make any further changes after the submission. To save your work
temporarily in the OLE server, you can click the "Save" button instead. Please be reminded that your
submission will NOT be completed until you click the "Save & Submit" button.
