Attic thermal insulation
The main issue in attic, superstructures in old districts and restoration
works of roofs, is to create as much useful area as possible by means of
lightweight construction roof and walls with high thermal insulation
features. The main hindering factor in achievement of this goal is
heaviness and inflexibility of mounting structures of heat-insulating
materials.
2
While minor repairments on existing attic our design fully resolves the problems listed above and is conducted as follows:
3
Advantages of proposition:
a) There appears additional space in the roof, so there is no need for attaching chevrons on the bottom of element;
b) It will be more economical to add second layer of mat below metal tiles (7,5 GEL/m²). To sum it is much cheaper than gypsum cardboard with its installation (10 GEL/m²);
c) Construction of roofing gets lighter in weight, as 1 m² mat (8mm) weights 1kg, and 1m² not less than 11kg-s!
d) In wall construction instead of heavy building block usage of light weight block and adding of basalt mat between it and gypsum cardboard meaningfully increases thermal insulation of the wall.
This combination is effective as with weight, also with price and quality of thermal insulation.
Weight of material per 1m2 area(c) price(b)
Basalt mat(8mm) second layer
1 kg/m2 7,5 GEL/m2
Gypsum cardboard fitting 11 kg/m2 10,0 GEL/m2

Effect of thermal insulation
Thermal insulation effect in two layers of basalt fiber in temperature range of 100oC – 20oC is 50%, that means the following: If in case of roofing two layers of 8mm basalt fiber is used and outside temperature is 60oC, inside roof maximum temperature will be 20oC.
5
Example for demonstration
If you look inside cars of foreign production, you can see that on the inner side of
bonnet there is the layer of thermal insulation (basalt of glass fiber and not glass-
wool with the thickness of 8mm), as part of the car it protects its surface from engine
torridity.
6
e) Thermal insulation design that we propose have been tested for defining raised moisture conditions regime of wall.
Using 2 layers of basalt mat even while constructing half block walls is able to prevent crossing of actual and maximum partial pressures, so the wall does not get wet.
7
In case of exceptionally thin design of attic constructional part (minimum thickness of wall) two layer basalt mat may be created with the following combination: one mat will be created with steam impermeable polyethylene film, and second mat will be conducted with moisture impermeable polyethylene film. In this case thermal insulation layer will have the following alignment:
Note: This changes in designcan make design more expensive by not more than 5GEL/m²

If you decide to create different types of thermal insulation designs on your own, you will definitely need to take diagram into account the below diagram
