1 .A.S. Newsletter Fall School Celebrations: Day of the Dead and Thanksgiving Thanksgiving Feast November 24th featured a mighty holiday feast for both MAS students and staff. Thanks to turkey contributions from a Mor- ton committee, MAS staff prepared and served five roasted turkeys for lunch for both students and fac- ulty. The feast also includ- ed traditional Thanksgiv- ing favorites mashed pota- toes, mac and cheese, green bean casserole, bis- cuits, sweet potatoes, stuffing, pumpkin pie, cake, and more. The days celebration featured bas- ketball and volleyball tournaments, as well as faculty vs. student games of dodgeball, and periods of movie matching, and game playing. And at the days end, five lucky students were given tur- keys by Morton to enjoy with their families over Thanksgiving Dia de Muertos On Friday, October 30th MAS students and staff en- gaged in a celebration of ghostly tradition: Dia de Muertos, the Mexican Day of the Dead Festival. The festival is celebrated each year on October 31st, No- vember 1st, and November 2nd to honor friends and family members who have died. To celebrate, MAS students made traditional Mexican artwork (see above) including painting and coloring skulls, as well as creat- ed Dia de Muertos creations with the computer pro- gram PhotoShop (see back). Many classrooms also indulged in pizza, hot wings, fries, scary movies, and of course, Halloween candy!
