Renewable Energy Study
Assess the feasibility and potential of wider application of new and renewable energy technologies in Hong Kong
The study comprised of two stages will be completed in early 2004
3
Stage 1 of Renewable Energy Study
Evaluation of new and renewable energy technologies appropriate for local use
Identification of practical measures to support the introduction of new and renewable energy technologies
Formulation of recommendations for development of an implementation strategy
4
Major Findings of Stage 1 Renewable Energy Study (1)
Technologies with potential for wide-scale local application are solar power, wind power, energy from waste and building integrated fuel cells
There may not be suitable sites for implementing large scale renewable energy projects due to geographical constraints
5
Major Findings of Stage 1 Renewable Energy Study (2)
There may be concerns about the environmental and safety impacts of some renewable energy systems
Renewable energy appears to be comparatively more expensive than conventional power
6
Major Findings of Stage 1 Renewable Energy Study (3)
Creation of a positive market for renewable energy projects is essential
Access to utility grid by third party may not be permitted
Public support is a critical factor
7
Stage 2 ofRenewable Energy Study
