Legal Requirements

IDEA 2004 requires that all students with disabilities who need AIM should be provided: with the instructional materials they need in the formats they need at the time the materials are needed.

Some students served under Chapter 15 Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 may need AIM.

As you may know, your child has been using a great reading resource at school calledBookshare (www.bookshare.org). Through Bookshare, your child gets access to tens ofthousands of accessible digital books over the Internet, as well as assistive reading tools thathelp them to read and study independently. Did you know that your child can also getaccess to Bookshare at home for FREE?

We wanted to inform you so that your child can continue to read outside of the classroom.Evenings, weekends, and summers… mysteries, fairy tales, science fiction, adventure stories…with Bookshare, students can read what they want, when they want!

You may wonder how all this can be free? Bookshare received an award from the Office of Special Education Programs at the U.S. Department of Education to provide free Bookshareaccess to students with qualified print disabilities, such as visual impairments, physicaldisabilities, and severe learning disabilities. Your child qualifies for this program, and westrongly encourage you to sign up your child for Bookshare at home.

I have printed out all the forms you need to get started. Please carefully read all the forms, sign,and fax/mail the signed forms back to Bookshare (fax number and address on forms).
