Cat’s Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) is the bark and root parts of a woody vine which grows in the Peruvian Amazon
Traditionally, Cat’s Claw is used
To strengthen the immune system through its anti-tumor properties*
As an anti-inflammatory to reduce inflammation in auto-immune conditions, including lupus, asthma, arthritis, Crohn’s Disease, etc. *
As an anti-viral*
To reduce CRP (C-reactive protein) in the blood – helps prevent plaque buildup in arteries*
To detoxify the intestines and reduce inflammation*
Promotes bowel regularity*

Uncaria tomentosa vs. Uncaria guianensis
Cat’s Claw (Uncaria tomentosa) grows in the “montaña” part of the Peruvian Amazon, which is a cooler, higher elevation (approximately 600-1000 meters above sea level)
The root of the plant, which may contain a higher percentage of some phytoactives is illegal to be collected in Peru, because it endangers the survival of the species
Another species is also known as Uña de Gato (Cat’s Claw)
This species, Uncaria guianensis, grows at sea level and low altitudes, and does not contain the immune system strengthening compounds of Uncaria tomentosa, although it has the other beneficial properties
This is a cheaper more abundant species to collect and the bark from both plants is virtually indistinguishable
The easiest way to tell the two species apart is by the leaf -Uncaria tomentosa has fine hairs which grow on the underside of the leaf

Some research suggests that Uncaria tomentosa may be helpful with preventing or treating Alzheimer’s Disease. Researchers indicate that the positive effects noted may be due either to its antioxidant effects and/or to the possible dilation (not confirmed) of peripheral blood vessels in the brain by alkaloids such as rhynchophylline.

Study: Cat’s Claw is Anti-Inflammatoryand Beneficial to Heart Health
Study: “Inhibitory effect of rhynchophylline on platelet
aggregation and thrombosis.” Mchen CX, Jim RM, Li
YK, Zhong J, Yue L, Chen SC, Zhou JY. Zhongguo
Yao Li Xue Bao. 1992 Mar;13(2):126-30. PMID:
1317985
Objective To determine the affect of
Rhynochophylline, an alkaloid in Cat’s Claw, on platelet aggregation (blood stickiness) and thrombosis (a blood clot in a deep vein, usually occuringin the legs)
Design Platelet aggregation was
induced in rabbits
Rhynochophylline was then administered
Results Rhynchophylline was shown to
inhibit platelet aggregation and thrombosis
It may also help prevent blood clots, dilate peripheral blood vessels, lower blood pressure, and lower blood cholesterol
Conclusion Cat’s Claw is an anti-
inflammatory agent beneficial in maintaining heart health
Cat’s Claw reduces stickiness of blood and helps prevent blood clots

Study: Cat’s Claw Enhances Apoptosis in Bladder Cancer Cells
Study: “Quinovic acid glycosides purified fraction from
Uncaria tomentosa induces cell death by apoptosis in
the T24 human bladder cancer cell line.” Dietrich F,
Kaiser S, Rockenbach L, Figueiró F, Bergamin LS, da
Cunha FM, Morrone FB, Ortega GG, Battastini AM.
Food Chem Toxicol. 2014 May;67:222-9. PMID: 24607820
Objective To investigate the antitumor effect
of U.tomentosa bark (Cat’s Claw) on cell proliferation in two human bladder cancer cell lines
Results U.tomentosa decreased the
growth and viability of cancer in both cell lines
U.tomentosa induced cancer cell apoptosis (death)
Conclusion
Cat’s Claw is powerful in its ability to inhibit the growth of human bladder cancer cells

Study: Cat’s Claw Enhances DNA Repair
Study: “A water soluble extract from Uncaria tomentosa
(Cat's Claw) is a potent enhancer of DNA repair in primary
organ cultures of human skin.” Mammone T, Akesson C,
Gan D, Giampapa V, Pero RW. Phytother Res. 2006 Mar;20(3):178-83 PMID: 16521105
Objective
To determine how Cat's Claw has ability to enhance DNA repair in human skin
Design
Skin cultures were created, irradiated with UVB rays, and then analyzed for cell death
Results
The data clearly demonstrated that Cat’s Claw reduced skin cell death from UV exposure, and this protection was accounted for by an increase in DNA repair
Conclusion
Based on these results, it was concluded that Cat’s Claw was a natural plant extract worthy of further consideration as a sunscreen product
“Cat's Claw is the only documented natural source of components that can simultaneously regulate both DNA repair and anti-inflammation.”

Testimonial: Royal Cat’s Claw™Colon Issues and Food Poisoning
“All my life I have struggled with constipation, sometimes taking an hour to get anything out. I used to take Cascara Sagrada to help, but because I’m sensitive and it can be irritating to the colon, I didn’t like taking it so much. When I take a maintenance dose of Royal Cat’s ClawTM a few days a week, I feel like a normal person every day! Everything comes out easily and quickly without strain or pain. What a relief for me. Thank you for this product!” ~Teresa B., Fort Collins, CO
“I was struck with food poisoning twice in one year. The first time, I took activated charcoal and ginger. I still felt ill for at least four days and wasn’t quite right for about a week more. The second time, I added in Royal Cat’s ClawTM and felt completely recovered in less than two days! That was amazing.” ~Teresa B., Fort Collins, CO
