TUESDAY The Truckers, shown above, are coming home, and one night is simply not enough to celebrate. A weekend-long affair, it’s no wonder that Friday and Saturday are already sold out – guitarist Patterson Hood and the gang have made the pages and airwaves of national media outlets, and in 2008, were featured on several top-10 lists for “Album of the Year” with its eighth studio album – “Brighter than Creation’s Dark.” A DBT show is always a sound for sore Athenian ears – in 2006 NPR called the band “the heirs to Southern Rock,” and DBT is often compared to Lynyrd Skynyrd – but anyone who has seen a Truckers show knows its poetic lyrics and open-minded ideals don’t fit the profile of the genre. The three-day show, a Nuçi’s Space benefit, will also feature special guests and DBT friends Bloodkin & the Decoys. But ticket holders to Friday and Saturday’s shows don’t know what they’re missing on Thursday night. Hood has worked with Camp Amped, a local youth music camp, for years and offered five talented protégés a line on his mar- quee. It comes as no surprise. The Truckers are sure to give back to the Athens community almost as often as it plays shows here. It’s nights like these where Athens is reminded of the music town it once was and will always be.
