Group 3 Project Brief
28 February 2014
Completed by Helen Stevenson (4080742)
Background:With relative success, Napier Management Training (NMT) offer courses in management training for the commercial
market. NMT have been successful in their offering thus far, however in order to become the leading provider of such
courses within the Scottish central belt the company realise it is imperative to create both an attractive and professional
market presence.
The current business model is not without problems and the relatively organic growth of the business to date has led to a
current structure that, whilst successful, lacks distinct order and requires a more professional appearance. The companys
present key business objective is expansion and positioning of NMT as market leader for the provision of commercial
management training in central Scotland.
Project Objectives:
(time, cost, scope, risk,
& benefits)
Creation of a comprehensive website within 3 weeks from acceptance of contract, making the completion date 21 March
2014.
There are no costs expected other than the allocated budget.
Project scope is to provide a fully functioning website which provides high profile market positioning and company
administrative functionality. The site will also offer course information and pricing, booking capability, customer
networking and general information about the location of venues.
Initial risks identified are the staff working on the project. Group members have no direct experience of projectmanagement therefore the planned effort and time allocated for activities may be exceeded. The website is a new
endeavour and as such processes and technology employed are being utilised for the first time which raises possibilities of
testing taking longer than planned.
Benefits are enabling NMT to expand business through prominent positioning within the digital market. Enablement of

NMT to attain the leading market share in commercial management training in central Scotland. Refining business
operations which will enable NMT to attain a professional and cost efficient operational structure.
Desired Outcomes:
Creating an internet platform within the current digital management training market, will enable the company to
confidently compete alongside similar providers.
Crucially, a website would also facilitate the streamlining of internal business management and operational functions.
Project Scope &
exclusions Project scope relates to meeting the functionality and requirements that have been requested by NMT. Priority will be
given to conformity with usability criteria, making recommendations for fiscally sound webhosting and maintenance
solutions, evidenced in the form of suitable reports. Provision of a password protected administrator facility and
accompanying basic administrator manual. Web testing will be carried out on all popular usage browsers. Google Rankings
optimisation will be documented. Registration for courses will be available online and by post, provision will be made for
producing paper application. Presentation of the prototype will include realistic data.
The website should also accept credit card and PayPal, process individual user registration for the website and facilitate
course registration from the website. A confirmation email should be triggered upon completion. Administrator function
will allow viewing of course booking status. The site will record all bookings and reduce availability of courses
automatically. Failure to attain minimum attendance on courses will trigger administrator notification to cancel course.
Courses should be validated to ensure they commence on a Monday and that delegates cannot book themselves on to
courses that do not exist.
Customer networking in the form of a delegates discussion board, information about the courses and discounts would also
be desirable.
Exclusions relate to the provision of venues and organisation of the courses that will be run.
